What would annoy your neighbors?

My neighbors on both sides smoke pot every night outside on their respective back steps in good weather. Makes it almost impossible to have a window open to let in fresh air. That annoys me. I have no idea what annoys them.

Flying a drone over their yards, with a large Halloween decoration ghoul dangling from it, and a bluetooth speaker inside projecting the sounds of pathetic beatboxing and attempts at singing soft rock hits of the 70's. Would probably get old pretty fast.

My daughter’s when they come home from college and have friends over outside (just one neighbor). I think the next time I am giving out my daughters’ cell phone numbers to her, they will cut it out if told (I think they don’t realize how loud they are, I hear nothing.

Are you trying to annoy your neighbors? Because my neighbor planted bamboo on the fence line just before moving out. The stuff is an invasive weed. It's destroying the garden I have on my side.

we aren't trying to annoy ours, but they certainly are annoying us. They just took down their stockade fence and put up a small privacy fence, 3 feet over on our side of the property line. Now we have to pay to have it surveyed, and make them move it. They also have 2 dogs that bark constantly.

One neighbor light heartedly (I think) gives me a hard time when I pull my car up on the lawn and wash it. We ARE in a drought and I don't want to waste water or money. And the last time I used a car wash, they had to shut it down so I could go inside the retrieve the front license plate and radio antenna that got ripped off going through.
I have a neighbor on one side who has an older dog and he barks to be let in. They ignore him, sometimes for up to an hour. They both work at home and he is an inside dog.
But most current issues are just speed bumps in life, no big deal.
That same house with the dog, the previous owner let all kinds of friends (up to 6) live there for free. They would park all over, and on trash day, move trash cans so they could park in front of my house, and my trash wouldn't get picked up.

What annoys my neighbor?
  • yellow flowers - She really hates yellow flowers. Hates them so much that she told me to remove bushes from my front yard...bushes with yellow-ish flowers on them. So I planted more. And also planted a variety of sunflowers in my backyard that can grow to be up to 13' high. They're in raised beds in the backyard in the side yard that shares a common fence with her backyard. She has a 2 story house. So those sunflowers will be waving back and forth at her all day in about a month.
  • my children don't play in the front yard or in the street - She really did comment on this before, actually complained about it in a special Stepford Wife sort of way.:rotfl2: Front yard is full of gravel...we're in AZ, so don't have grass, and I don't let my kids play out in the street.
  • When I get a Chip Drop once a year and spread free organic mulch all throughout my backyard. The 1st 2 times I did it, she asked me if it was horse manure. :rotfl:No, it's just regular chipped up tree clippings...that WOULD have gone to a land fill, but instead got diverted to my property instead. And yeah, for about 10 days, you have to look at the mountain of mulch in my driveway, but then it disappears because it's all been moved to the backyard (which makes the worms & my trees & plants very happy all year round).
  • She doesn't see my DH doing yard work - which bothers her greatly. It's not his 'thing.' The yard is my 'thing.' It's a huge hobby of mine. She often comments about how she never sees my spouse doing things that she thinks a husband should do (i.e., yard work).

We signed a contract on our new house in late June 2021, with a late August closing. Between that time, the previous owners overfertilized the lawn and basically slow-killed it. (They admitted the mistake and we squared things away with them.) By Thanksgiving it was a big brown patch of dirt.

We decided to replace it the next spring and did it in late March. It looks great now, but I know our neighbors, who are very nice people, were still annoyed by their new neighbors' big dirt patch of a yard. At first they said nothing, but then in early spring started offering "helpful" suggestions on what we could do to turn it around. We probably should've printed up a flyer and delivered it around the neighborhood to let them know that, yes, we knew it was a problem and yes, we were going to fix it.

Ahh - neighbors. Can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em.
I'm STILL involved in a lawsuit with the neighbor on the other side for a wall he built in our shared driveway that makes it impossible for us to use our side since BEFORE COVID.

I did that ... I snap the shoots every spring now :(

Tweens wearing hoodies climbing in our trees. (Trees on OUR property.) I had a neighbor who thought there were my then 12/13 year olds and their friends were gang members. Seriously? This guy did not have dementia or apparent mental illness, he was a 30 something year old working man (works in the same place as my DH and is in a higher level job that him so he's no slouch) knocking on my door wanting to talk to me about gang activity. Our kids had pet sit their animals! (Not after that, though.) I'm still scratching my head over it and my kids are long grown.

Well, just last week a huge black walnut tree fell across our backyard into theirs. Hit our fence but didn't destroy anything of theirs, except probably their back yard. Tree guy was out today to give us a quote....work won't get done for a few days.

They were nice about it. I'd say we are friends endly but not friends.

Two of my neighbors like keeping immaculate groomed front yards with a lawn. I live in Arizona and I like plants that flower and bloom and have colors. They hate them because the petals blow over into their yard. I've heard them talk about it when I'm outside by myself, but they are scared of my husband and don't say anything in front of him cause he's a big guy (he's a sweet guy though) lol.

I live in a condo with common walls on both sides. I'd imagine any kind of excessive noise would bother them. I'm always hyper-cautions about not making too much noise. That courtesy is important in multi-family housing. FWIW, neither of my current adjacent neighbours are noisy themselves, for which I am grateful.

omg we had the same type of neighbor, smell of pot every day, regardless of weather. - how do you cope?
He also had the loudest music on weekends, a huge RV/trailer blocking our view of one side of the street, all kinds of trash on the side of his house facing ours.
A total nightmare. - we ended up moving it was so bad.

Having good neighbors is like winning the lottery imo. - if you have good neighbors, cherish them.
