What transportation do you use to and from MCO on a solo trip?

Since the deletion of DME I first started using Mears (and the company they eventually merged with) and while the price was certainly good - the time spent on the bus wasn't very appealing to me. Having nicely decorated busses had zero appeal. When Delta Skymiles Amex entered into a deal with LYFT - I began using LYFT as my preferred method. That deal ends in April - but I find the time saved far exceeds the additional cost (again that's my preference) As a solo traveler I have never felt threatened or unsafe using rideshare (which I use a lot, especially in NYC) so it's really up to the person as to what their preferences are.
Like anything else, rideshare isn't perfect - but I've found it to be a perfect solution for me.

Can I wait until I am at MCO to choose my ride, or are all the taxis and ride services pre-booked now?
Mears has a self-serve kiosk to the left of the attendants where you can book after your landing. Either one-way or input your return flight details for them to schedule your resort pickup, no pre-planning required.

That's the beauty of flying solo -- wing it with a last minute decision!

I am contemplating a solo trip in January and plan to use our usual town car service - Cast and Crew. No they are not cheap but I would be too nervous to use a rideshare alone.

For the sole purpose of saving time (or adding vacay time) I usually use Lyft. I travel solo. In NYC, Florida, Mich, NJ and any other state or location I'm in. Never had an issue being solo - the app does provide a decent level of security. The rides can vary from $40 to $80 (depending on the type of car you choose, time, etc) for the approx 35 minute trip. My past trip (returned home early this week) I decided to book a Mears shuttle for the low, low price of $16 -- but the pick up from my hotel was 4 hours in advance of my flight (due to the longer bus ride) which can go up to 2 hours. So I cancelled Mears and went ahead with LYFT leaving 2.5 hours preflight. $56 (Xtra comfort car, priority) plus tip. So base fare is $40 more, I also tip higher if they assist me in lifting up my not very heavy ECV. Well worth it for me.

I will be starting my WDW vacation at an off-site resort very near the Disney property. I have always taken Mears to get there, but their website says they only go to Disney-related resorts now. How do other people travel solo to and from MCO without spending a fortune on it? Mears is only $16 each way, you know.... Can I wait until I am at MCO to choose my ride, or are all the taxis and ride services pre-booked now? I have always bought my Mears ticket after arriving at MCO.
We have flown in one time and had to take a taxi. There was a pretty good size line up of taxi's waiting for customers. We didn't have to wait at all. Of course, it is more expensive than Mears but was the only choice at the time.

I've used Lyft 3/4 of the times I've been to and from MCO, using Mears from MCO to the resort last time I arrived. Luckily, I was put on a smaller shuttle and my resort was the first stop but it felt like it took forever. After flying from LAX, being hungry because it's like 2:00 for me when I landed and just wanting to be done traveling, I think Lyft is the way to go.

We use Mears Connect but I will say they have some of the slowest bus drivers. From our home to our departure airport we finally started using Uber because they can be scheduled a few days out. I want to try Uber at MCO but Mears Connect is so cheap. We were on one that stopped at Hilton and Wyndham before going on to WDW resorts.

On our last trip we used Lyft. Not as cheap as Mears, but then we didn't have to travel to all the hotels on the mears route. Having the ride to ourselves was a plus.

Rent a car! I have zero patience waiting to be picked up and I like to be in charge lol. Driving in Orlando and around Disney is very easy. I love coming out of the parks or my room and just straight into the car. No long lines waiting to stand on a cramped bus. And it makes it super easy to go to the store or out to eat somewhere else and if you aren't staying on property then a rental car is a no brainer.
