My parents and I were having a discussion about old Disney VHS tapes and i'm curious to know what is the highly sought-after Disney VHS tape that everybody wants but is scarce to find? I did read that the original 1989 The Little Mermaid VHS is sought-after due to the cover art and is it true that the original 1991 VHS Beauty And The Beast is now considered rare because when Disney rereleased Beauty And The Beast in 2002 in a Special Edition the original VHS version from 1991 skyrocketed in value

I did a little checking on that topic last year, and I basically found that the 'value' of those old tapes is very exaggerated. I think you'll find a number of sites offering those 'rare' tapes you've mentioned for sale at eye-catching prices - but no one actually seems to be buying them at that price. We just ended up donating ours! But you might find something different when you check!

There's really no market for VHS tapes anymore. I had a bunch (Disney included) that I tried donating but even Goodwill wouldn't take them and neither would any of the other shops around. I ended up just tossing them.

There might be some collector value to a sealed copy of a VHS movie, maybe a particularly obscure one, but for the most part, yeah, they aren't worth much - maybe a couple of bucks. Perhaps a copy of The Little Mermaid before the cover change might be worth something - you know the one I'm talking about.... 🤣

Song of the South, no question, if you have it, it is worth a fortune.
That's what I was going to say but then I checked and the complete/full movie was never officially legally released on home video in any format. The closest you would get to a release are some of the songs on the Disney Sing A Long VHS tapes.

What about the original 1988 release of Cinderella on VHS? I can remember my aunt going crazy trying to find it but she never found it. Is it highly sought-after too. Because I know that when Disney rereleased Cinderella in 1995 the original 1988 VHS version became scarce to find. Also is the original Mary Poppins VHS sought-after as well?

Not true. It was released on Laser Disk in the US and on VHS in other countries, but I think not in the US. It might be possible to get a UK VHS tape if you have a player that can use it. These would be in PAL format.

Is the original VHS tape of Pete's Dragon rare to find as well? Because I know that when they rereleased Pete's Dragon in the Disney Masterpiece Collection they changed the cover and I wonder now that when the remake of Pete's Dragon came out the original VHS tape became highly sought-after?

Has the original version of The Little Mermaid on VHS gone up in price? What about the original first version of Sleeping Beauty on VHS? Because I never knew that the original 1987 release of Sleeping Beauty on VHS was sought-after because my teacher told me about it because she had got the Sleeping Beauty VHS for our classmates to watch for Movie Day when I went to school as a little girl. Because I know that when the 1997 rerelease of Sleeping Beauty debuted on store shelves there was quite a demand for the original 1987 Sleeping Beauty VHS

If you have any old VHS tapes, put them on Ebay to see for yourself. Or get them to an auction house to get them valued and auctioned off.

Song of the South is probably worth most.
And maybe the original Little Mermaid VHS because of the cover contraversy.

But even then, we are probably talking a few hundred dollars. They do not go away for thousands of dollars.

What about the original A Bug's Life VHS? Because I learned that the rarest cover of this video is the Hopper cover and if you have the A Bug's Life video with the Hopper cover it is worth money. I also learned that if you have The Black Cauldron VHS tape from 1998 if it has a shiny cover it is considered rare because when this film was released in 1998 for the first time not many copies had a shiny cover. Are these versions of The Black Cauldron very sought-after too

There is a one that is new Bugs Life with Hopper cover still sealed and it’s $12.99 on eBay. You can easily look at places like eBay to see what people are getting for things like this.

What about the first edition of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs VHS from 1995? I know when Disney rereleased it in the Platinum Edition in 2001 the original 1995 Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs VHS became rare to find. I also found that the original VHS versions of Pinocchio and Fantasia became rare to find because they were gonna be released for "the last time in the century" but it turned out to be a lie. Why did Disney do this to the Pinocchio and Fantasia VHS tapes?

What about in the Disney's Sing-Along Songs series of tapes. Are any of the Disney's Sing-Along Songs tapes v sought after and rare to find? Because I know that if you have the original Disneyland Fun Sing-Along Songs video it is rare because the first version had a song called Disneyland Is A Magical Place but the later version did not. Also I noticed that the Mary Poppins Sing-Along Songs tape was originally titled I Love To Laugh but then in the 90's they changed the title to a different title. Is the original I Love To Laugh Mary Poppins Sing-Along Songs Tape sought-after too?

Recent sales are less than $10 for it:

You can find answers to any value question with a quick search on ebay.

Go look on Ebay and see what they are going for and what they sold for. No one here can tell you what they are worth.
Second this, specifically the search for sold items. It’s very easy to search eBay and filter on what’s been sold, I do it all the time for items I’m interested in, gives me a sense of what I might end up paying if I decide to bid.

I would say maybe Cars? It was the last Disney movie to be released on VHS (yes, I know it's a Pixar movie but that's semantics) and could only be purchased with the Disney Movie Club service. Copies of varying condition (used and brand new) have been sold between $1k-4k.
