A hatchimal and Everafter high dolls.
This is SO true! We don't even get to buy for DH's grandkids since none of them live local and their parents prefer we just send (large chunks) of cash so they can do the buying and/or roll it into their own holiday budgets. I haven't been in a toy department for years and yeah, I miss it.i miss the days of buying toys! enjoy, everyone that has young kids. It just gets harder, and more expensive!
Christmas is primarily a religious celebration for us and we purposely kept the gift part reigned in when DS was little. We did something similar to your little poem - generally one toy, one book and one piece of clothing/outfit. We usually give any big gifts for birthdays rather than at Christmas and this year DS is in school studying graphic design and digital media so we very recently had to acquire a fancy Surface Book computer and Adobe software for him. Christmas gifts will be much "less significant" this year because of that. He will, however, still be getting his traditional socks and underwear (a dozen pair of each crammed into his stocking). He loves it!We went WAY overboard last year for our three daughters, so this year I'm using this little rhyme:
One thing they want.
One thing they need.
One thing to wear.
One thing to read.
Of course, this doesn't apply to grandma.
We also let the kids buy each other gifts. They've all agreed to get some new board games for family game nights.
I thought when they got older they stopped changing their lists
Mine just adds to it. The latest is a "Jolyn Swimwear Trunk Show" she'd like to attend. I told her she can go but with a strict budget. The suits are pretty expensive but all the swim team girls love them.I thought when they got older they stopped changing their lists
My DD is 26 so it is usually just buying her gift cards which does seem so impersonal but she likes them so she is easy. Needless to say, I miss not being able to buy toys. At work, we pick 3 children who put requests into Santa sack (poorer children who may not get many things from their parents who can't afford to buy anything but maybe food for Christmas dinner if they can afford that.) Wouldn't you know that we have a little girl who wants pajamas and slippers and a Hatchimal (have no idea what that is but apparently, you can't find this anywhere) and we feel so bad that she asked for so little and the one thing that she really wanted, we can't find anywhere. Hope she isn't too disappointed.
My oldest dd is getting cash in a Alice in Wonderland wrislet, Harry Potter make-up brushes, Fortune Cookie soap HP advent box (great idea found on budget board thread), and some things for her room.
My daughter's advent calendar came today! So excited!
