What’s for Dinner Tonight?

We are having a snow day (for a storm that fizzled out) so I have time to cook. Well... almost cook. I have a hamburger helper stroganoff kind of thing that I'll doctor and make for tonight, and I'm making cheese sauce so we can do macaroni and cheese tomorrow... or maybe I'll do it in reverse order. It's hard to resist homemade macaroni and cheese!

Could think of no way to change the rice dish around. So ignored those leftovers and went for the frozen Chinese dumplings I bought at WF. They are really good and not as doughy as some other brands. Really liked the filling as well-no mystery meat aura, 🤣.
Pan fried the dumplings and then placed them on a bed of red curly lettuce, carrot +radish slaw, followed by the ginger chicken dumplings. Doused the plate with a soy vinegar sauce and it was sorta like a warm salad.

To make it special for Valentine's Day I'm putting in some effort into dinner at home since it's quite cold and any decent restaurants will be packed to the gills. I'm making a lobster bisque, a basic artisan style bread leaving out the herbs, a spinach salad with berries in it and a simple chocolate mousse for dessert.

Since my husband is well aware of my sloth-like attitude about cooking it should be enough to have the facade of fancy but still be simple enough that I can pull it off.

Assuming WF sends everything I ordered, tonight’s dinner will be the first of the new year and last (for a long time): NY strip steak. Just in a rare mood for a hunk o’ meat. Had to order a one pound minimum so it’ll last for 1 or 2 more meals.
So anyway it’s the steak with some type of compound butter; I’ll decide by dinner time. Sweet potato waffle fries courtesy of the frozen foods aisle. Really like a brand called Alexa’s . Hmmm 🤔 maybe it’s WF’s house brand? As well a lb. of asparagus that I’ll oven roast and share with no one. Muahahaha.

If there’s any space left I’ll have a mini torte of frozen ginger cream for dessert.

We had the macaroni and cheese last night but while I was cooking I decided to do dinner for tonight, too. It's basically a stroganoff hamburger helper, but I started by sauteeing onions and mushrooms, then cooked the burger. I used the box powdered sauce mix and pasta, but also added some cream, garlic powder, A-1 sauce, and just a few shakes of raspberry chipotle tobasco sauce. I liked it better than the macaroni and cheese, and that's saying something, being as my homemade mac-and-cheese is my favorite food on earth! I think I'll cook up some frozen petite peas to go with dinner- might even just mix them right into the pan when reheating the hamburger helper.
