Washing sippy cups while on vacation?

Have you ever seen the screw on caps for for bottled drinks? I've seen 2 types - the one I got for my son (at Toys R Us ) is like a spout top that screws on top of a water bottle and he can drink with it. It's not like the type of sippy cup where he has to "suck" to get the drink - it just makes it easier for him to drink from the bottle. If he turns the water bottle over - water will come out. The package comes with 2 caps sizes each fitting different sized bottles.

DS loves to drink water and we plan on having a case or 2 delivered to the hotel. So all we have to do is screw the top on and he's set to go. And it's simple to rinse the cap at any sink. You can also add powdered drink mixes to the water if you want. These tops also fit on soda bottles etc.

I also saw a set at Babies R Us which are better for young toddlers as they are more like sippy cups in that you have "suck" on them to drink and I don't think liquid spills out if you turn them over.

We just got back from a 2-week road trip including 5 days at WDW. I brought the sippie cups for my 14-month-old and a small travel-container that I washed out and filled with dish soap. I used one of the washcloths in the hotels each night, with my soap, to clean sippie cups. I laid them out on a dry washcloth from the hotel room to dry overnight. This worked great for us. I brought 8 sippie cups total, even though he goes through 4 in a day, just in case we lost some. We left one in a restaurant by accident and still have 7 left. I did not opt for disposables because 1, my son is picky and likes "his" brand of sippie cup and 2, they get expensive for a 2-week trip multiplied by 4 times a day (56 to buy!). This worked for us and it took only a couple of minutes each night!

This year, ds will be almost 1 when we go. He won't be off the bottle at that point, he uses Dr. Brown's bottles. Those can be such a pain to clean, many parts. I've already decided to look for some cheap packs of bottles that I can take and toss while there. I've already found at a local store a pack of 3 (with Disney Characters on them!) for less than $4.00. I'll pick up a few of those and be good to go!
We had to use the Dr. Brown's bottles (they were the only ones with a small enough nipple we could find for DS - at first he had ones that I referred to as doll baby bottles because of their small size). They were such a pain to wash. Thank goodness they included that little itty bitty brush. I'd have been up a creek without it

I haven't seen them at BRU but I did see the set at TRU. I had already paid for my stuff when I saw them or I would have gotten them. I plan to get a set. I'll have to see if I can find the set at BRU for DS (1 1/2). The ones at TRU will probably work for DD (age 3).

I had thought about taking disposable cups but I don't know if DD will drink out of it. She's kind of particular and only wants to drink out of her purple cup. I might get a set and see. We use some at home but they are more for eating snacks (i.e. dry cereal) out of. I don't see DS having a problem drinking out of anything. We'll probably take a small bottle of dish soap and a brush or just use a washcloth. Wash them out and then let them dry overnight. In the parks we'll wash them out after they finished what they are drinking.

Tigger 03--The disposable cups are no loss if your DD isn't interested. A set is like $2.00. They do leak a little if dropped.

My Disney Store tumblers cannot go in the dishwasher, the straw and cap can. I also believe any of the insulated cups cannot go in the dishwasher, but don't quote me. I get frustrated when I get home and realize that. I don't like that the plates can't go in the microwave either. But it's transitioning DD faster as I often give her a regular salad plate.

I went to Disney last year with a 10mth old. I took his wire brushes, bought dishwashing liquid in the store @ POR and washed the bottles with hot water by hand like I always do. My baby was fine and I plan on doing the same thing in September with his sippy cups. I'll just take a sponge instead of the wire brush and buy the dishwashing liquid there. Cutting up pieces of spong and putting them in ziploc bags take up space and sounds like a lot of work especially with all the other things we need to take.

When I used to take sippy cups with me, I bought the container with the wipes that lathered up to dish soap after they were run under the water. I think they were Dawn. It was so much easier than packing a bit of liquid just in case it spilled! I believe they still make them :) Good luck !

I packed a small bottle of dishsoap and a bottle brush. Make sure to put the dishsoap in a ziploc bag in case it leaks.
I do this on every vacation we take. The Bottle Brush is a godsend if you have sippies with tiny valves to clean. If you don't want to take the dishsoap with you, either make the pre-dried towelettes described in here or use whatever soap you do have along, but definitely include a bottle brush no matter what. Baby shampoo is a great substitute for dishsoap (very mild, rinses off well) and probably is on your packing list anyway! :-)

Another vote for the disposable sippies - wash as long as they are getting clean and then toss and use another. I put some dishsoap in a new travel size shampoo container with a couple sponges.

I also had my kids using juice boxes early, just pull up the sides and make wings to help kids stop squeezing.

I also LOVE the tops they sell for the juice bottles and water bottles - converts them into a sippie:)

Anybody know??

There are sinks, but the water wasn't really hot-- it probably is a hot water tap but you have to let it run a while. It has a sensor, no taps to turn on.

Some of these sinks have a spray-type nozzle. I do remember all of them being pretty high pressure-- I always got wet! I've used them at several different resorts.

Oh, no soap though.

I normally rinsed my mugs out with the really hot water from the coffee/tea machine before I first used them. I'd wash them out every night in the room with dish soap that I brought from home.

When my DD was in the sippy cup stage, I used the Dawn wipes that others have mentioned. They were great! And we did use the take and toss-- washed them every night but then tossed them at the end of the trip.

For those with kids who prefer "their" sippy cup, they may like all of the disney designs available-- princesses, nemo, cars, mickey, pooh bear. Pretty much the whole line-up! They have a version with straws too-- a little leakier, but not too bad.

I took disposible sippy cups as well because they stack easily. I took dishsoap and a little bottle brush and washed them every night in the room.

I was able to find disposable clothes that already had dish detergent absorbed in them, similiar to the disposable wash clothes that Huggies sells for kids bathtime. they are hard to explain....
I found them at my local Giant Groccery store. If you can't find them, I would suggest drying out the sponge.
My DD2 is able to pop off the lids to the disposable cups or they leak in our bags so they are very convenient for us!
Enjoy your trip!

When we go away I take a small bottle of dish soap and a sponge, put it in a ziploc and wash it at the hotel.

When my son was 10 months old, I took two sippy cups for our 10 day trip. (I was nursing, so no need for bottles - thank goodness). Anyway. I basically just used the one and cleaned it with dishsoap at night. The extra was a back up just in case the first was lost.

During the day I primarily had water in the cup, so no need to worry about anything going bad. Occasionally there would be some apple juice, but if it was around too long, I'd just dump and rinse out well.

This year, my son was 2, and we had a water bottle for between meals. At meals we just used the cup & straw (w/ lid) that the restaurants gave us. We didn't take any non-water drinks around the park with us. Occasionally we would get him a juice during a break, but we had him drink it then and didn't carry it around with us. We did occasionally have to ask for a cup with a lid & straw depending on how the drink was "packaged".

If you are using a sippy cup, I would say, just take one with you into the parks and rinse often throughout the day and wash with soap at night. If you really feel like you need to use soap during the day, the drying liquid soap on a sponge and cutting into pieces sounds like an easy solution. I just couldn't imagine trying to deal with more than one sippy cup a day!

You may want to stop in at the feeding station/ comfort location that are scattered around the park.. they just about everything under the sun... I know when we have been out to dinner I have asked the waiter or waitress to run the cup through the disherwasher at the resturant when they are not slammed.

I will through on an extra few bucks tips just for this....

I've used the disposable wash clothes that come with dish detergent in them. They are very soapy and I have gotten a couple of days out of one to wash sippy cups and bottles. I think palmollive makes them.
