Correct. I feel like I've read about issues with the website, such as combined cards being wiped out. I did have a card on my most recent trip be empty. Thankfully it was just $25. I only had the little ticket that it was activated so I didn't remember which store I purchased it from. There wasn't anything I could do. So now I'm really gun shy about buying, combing etc. I know this would be time consuming but could a call with my DGC and have them enter them in batches or is there a limit on how many I can use to pay my balance.
The information you've read most likely had to do with people combining DGC from a third party seller, which we don't recommend. There's always two sides to a coin, right? Posters might not be forth coming with all the details, which if they posted here, we would ask, like a lot of questions to get the heart of the matter.
Reading the receipt & activation slip
after purchase, in front of the cashier, is important. Don't leave the line until you're 100% sure your cards have been activated and are of the correct amount. Keeping both slips with your GC is highly recommended, so is keeping a spreadsheet. I know, more work right? Think of it as your investment because it really is. Whether you spend $500 on up to 5K, that's not chump change, it's your sweat equity and you should protect it.
Drained cards happen no matter where they're purchased. We have DP's on those too both physical and egifts but it has nothing to do with the Disney gift card site.
It's not very time consuming to combine when you consider you still need to confirm the balance prior to your trip.
When you buy a DGC, go to the site, log in and add the card(s) to your account. You'll see your balance right away, which we all recommend. Add a main card, transfer funds and you're done.
How many cards can you call in? I think it depends on the CM. I'm not sure there is a specific number because I only give them one $1,000 at a time. Hopefully others will post their experience.
If you follow the recommendations here that have been passed onto you, you'll be well equipped to handle any issue that might arise. And if you have any questions or concerns, we're here.
