Hi Everyone! I'm back with another trip report - we got back from Disney about 3 weeks ago but it takes me a little bit to sort the photos and the videos and figure out which ones I want to share (and if this is not your first time joining me on a trip report you know that I go super extra with the photos...#sorrynotsorry). And has become a little bit of a pattern since we got our annual passes last year, we have another trip in a little over a month for Festival of the Arts, so we'll see how far I get before we head off. :)

The details:
who: me and my husband Trevor
when: Wednesday Nov 13th through Thursday Nov 21st (Nov 13th through Nov 17th was primarily Universal; Nov 17th through Nov 21st was Disney)
where: 4Points Sheraton, Portofino Bay, and Grand Floridian (Club Level!!!!!)

Introductions:
I'm Tiffany, I'll be your ghost host for this trip report. :) I'm 37 and while I'm a librarian by education, I currently do federal records management, since records management is where the pay is, and I gotta pay for Disney! Favorite princess is Sleeping Beauty, but I also love Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast and Rapunzel. Favorite rides are Haunted Mansion, Jingle Cruise, Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror...I feel like I should stop before I just list all of them.

My traveling companion is my husband Trevor. He turned 39 on this trip, and loves Star Wars and Marvel, but has grown to love Disney--his favorite characters are Boba Fett, Vader and Stormtroopers, and on the non-Star Wars side, Grumpy. I recently turned him into a roller coaster fan (after him not riding them for our first several trips), so now he likes Cosmic Rewind and Everest...I think Rise of the Resistance and Star Tours are his favorite rides though. :)

Ok, let's get started! We watch a lot of Disney vlogs, and one of the vloggers we'd seen vlogged about going to the Orlando Informer event at Universal, where they buy out the park and the crowds are super light and food is all included. It seemed really interesting, and then they released dates, one of which was the day before Trevor's birthday, so...we decided to go! And if we're going to Universal, of course we're going to Disney. We'd originally booked Animal Kingdom Lodge, but staying at the main building of the Grand Floridian (aka club level) has been on my bucket list, and after looking at prices with discounts, we realized we could swing it, and therefore would be at the Grand Floridian with the Christmas tree and the gingerbread house! So had to go and do that. :)

Then about a month out I was looking at leave and flights and to EVERYONE's surprise (I can feel your surprise), we decided to fly in the night before, stay at a nearby hotel on points that Trevor had (aka free), and then we'd have a full park day on the 14th, vs only a half day cause we were originally flying in during the afternoon. Woot. :) We didn't do a TON of reservations or plans beforehand, it was a bit more of a loosey-goosey trip, except for the fastpasses at Disney - I did enjoy taking advantage of booking those ahead of time so we didn't have to wake up early!

We packed up a day or two in advance because we knew we'd need to do a half day on the day we flew out, so Wednesday morning we were basically all ready - just had to get through a couple hours of work and then pack the last couple of things!

Travel Day! - Wed Nov 13, 2024 (part 1)

The plan today was for both Trevor and I to be leaving work at noonish, getting home a little bit before 1 pm. Our flight was at 7:45 pm, so I figured if we left home at 5 pm, we'd get to the airport at 5:45 (not amazing planning - 5 pm is right in the middle of rush hour and we were heading to DC's National airport, right downtown - the only saving grace is that we were heading into the city at this time, not heading out! :)) and we wanted to have some time to decompress and leisurely finish packing. So that was the plan!

Spoiler, that did not actually work the way we planned. Both Trevor and I ended up leaving work late at around 2:30/3 pm, and getting home around 3:30/3:45 pm. So we were fine timewise, but it was not nearly as leisurely as we were hoping. That's what happens when you care too much about your job! :)

We finished packing up, and called for the uber. Costco had been having decent sales on uber gift cards (like 25% off) so we stocked up! Anyways. :) Our uber arrived at about 5:15 pm, and after a drive where I thought several times we were going to hit other people or merge into them, we safely made it to the airport at 6:05 pm. There weren't really any lines - we checked in and dropped our bags super fast (apparently one of our checked bags is old enough/kind of broken enough that the worked tagged our bag to indicate it came that way vs them damaging it. LOL considering the damage on it came from earlier flights. :D), and then security was also a breeze - yay pre-check! The only mishap with security was that I forgot my water bottle was about half full and so with like 3 people ahead of me to get their IDs checked I was trying to chug my water, and spilled it all over myself. Oops! But otherwise super smoothly, and by 6:17 we were at our gate. About an hour until we boarded, so not horrible. Thank heavens for noise canceling headphones - the Southwest terminal at DCA is super loud and chaotic but the noise canceling helps. :)

We boarded right on time, and the plane wasn't full, so we ended up with an empty middle seat between us even as Trevor got the seat with the super extra legroom!

Happy birthday to Trevor!

The flight was uneventful, except for being super fast - it was supposed to land at 10:15 and at 9:35 we touched down and were taxiing into the gate. Woot! We were pretty quick getting off the plane and hopping on to the fake monorail!

Trevor is very proud of his Lego carryon - also a Costco purchase. :) He was googling a new suitcase from the brand we like to replace the one the Southwest worker hardcore judged when we checked it in. :D

I made him come over for a selfie with me. :)

Christmas tree!!!

We made it to baggage claim at 9:57 pm, and our run of luck continued (I attribute it all to the world wishing Trevor a happy birthday :D) - by 10:04, we had our bags, had called for the uber, and were outside waiting for the uber. Amazing! Not even 10 minutes. And it wasn't even hot or humid - Trevor still had his jacket on, and Trevor ALWAYS runs hot so you know it was decent (not hot :) ) weather.

By 10:30, we were checked in at the hotel. We were staying at the 4Points Sheraton on International drive, just for tonight. We'd booked it with Trevor's rewards points, so it was effectively free - woot! The room was a decent size; smelled a bit funny, but for free (and actually it was on a sale so it was cheaper with rewards points than it would even normally be), all good. :) We even had a fun view of Fun Spot!

Hi Fun Spot!

We had one more thing planned for the night: dinner at our favorite fast food restaurant that we don't have up in Virginia - Del Taco! After I'd booked the hotel, I'd googled Del Taco just for fun and it was like half a mile away, so the plan was to walk and get that for dinner. Google maps showed a sidewalk from the hotel to Del Taco, so we were hopeful. And by 10:45, we were on our way!

Del Taco Dinner! - Wed Nov 13, 2024 (part 2)

It was a pretty pleasant walk, and before we knew it, there it was!
IMG_3409.jpg
You can see it there off in the distance. :D

I always get the grilled chicken soft tacos:
IMG_3412.jpg
So good! I don't know why, but I love these.

Trevor got the loaded queso burrito and fish tacos.
IMG_3411.jpg
The fish tacos were good he said, but the loaded queso burrito was too wet and messy.

We wanted to eat it hot, so we ate at the outdoor patio there, and realized we could see our hotel from Del Taco! It really highlighted the weird octagonal shape -

(I took this picture on the walk back). Trevor was saying out funny it is that the hotel is called 4 points but it actually has 8 points 'cause it's octagon-shaped.

LOL

But overall, it was a great dinner and a lovely ending to a day that started a bit chaotically at work. As we walked back, we walked past gators!
IMG_3415.jpg
Next to the hotel was this minigolf place that also let you pet gators?! *shrugs* Very Florida. I approve.

And then we were back in the room and getting ready for bed. Tomorrow, off to Universal!

Fun with metrics:
Steps walked: 4246 steps (1.6 miles)
Ride count: 0 (unless we count the faux monorail?)

Woah, there are Uber gift cards?!?! How did I not know this, I should have been stocking up!

Also, LOVE the Lego suitcase, that is so cool!

The faux monorail definitely counts! My husband is also a Lego fan!

We are actually in the car now heading back home from WDW so I am reading trip reports to cheer myself up. Looking forward to reading more! 😊

MMMMMMMM, Del Taco! Thankfully we have one where I live that recently opened up. It's the first one ever for my area. Del Taco beats Taco Bell, no further debate about that. They have nice burritos there. Their fries are perfectly crispy too.
