2 adults, 3 suitcases, arrival at MCO 3/27 at 10pm

  • is it ok to reserve now since they can monitor the flights?
    • will also need a car for Riviera to AKL several days in, should I book now?
  • when does surge pricing happen?
  • Uber or Lyft?
  • XL or regular?
  • What else should I be thinking of?
Thanks!

They aren't going to monitor the flights.
Don't book anything now.
Surge pricing happens anytime demand outpaces supply, they can't control supply so they artificially reduce demand by beginning a surge.
Whichever is cheaper at the time you need it.
XL if you have three checked size suitcases. I've had issues in a standard with two people, 1 checked size and 2 carryons.
Check your credit cards and frequent flier accounts and see if any of them give you a bonus for one or the other. Don't book until you're ready to be picked up. Make sure you check the driver's name, make, model and color of the vehicle. A poster related a story last week about getting into the wrong rideshare when they asked the driver if they were there for _? Get the app and understand how it works before you get to Orlando.

You can reserve now but it's not necessary. Lyft and Uber are plentiful and easy to use at MCO. In my experience with airport trips, there is usually a premium when reserving vs calling it upon arrival.

Same deal with RIV to AKL, just book it when you need it. At that point you can check the price of Minnie Vans which might be a fun little splurge, if you want.

Surge pricing is impossible to predict. There's no set time, it ebbs and flows with supply and demand. I like to check both Lyft and Uber and choose the cheaper option. If you want, you can start to check the prices from MCO to your resort around 10pm now to see, or do it on Thursday evenings to be even more accurate.

How large are your suitcases? Regular should fit carry-ons but I'd do XL just in case you end up with, like, a Ford Fiesta or something.

Agreed. Definitely XL for the airport trip, regular for your trip to/from AKL. I find it hard to believe you'll have trouble finding an Uber or Lyft ride from MCO at 10:30 or so (after you get your bags). You definitely won't have any issue getting a ride on Disney property for a dinner (or whatever reason you're heading to AKL).

With just two people, a regular ride will be fine. You definitely can reserve, but we never do and never wait more than a few minutes for a ride (and we always have to have an XL as a family of five). We always use Uber, and we've never had any trouble. It's a great, fairly inexpensive way to get there from MCO.

We always check which one is cheapest at the time. We are 2 people with 2 large pieces of luggage and 2 backpacks and get large or X-Large. You can see what type of cars available and almost know if your stuff will fit….lol

It’s really easy , they pick you up on the second level not the bottom level.

About on average do you pay?

I asked my husband and he thinks $30. That was Uber we had one at $28 but lost that one because we were waiting on our luggage. I believe that was with just a large car.

We went to Art of Animation.

For a family of four, that is a good deal. Would be $64 for a shared bus from Mears.

Yes and we barely waited ,cars just keep circling waiting for pick up. My sister took the means bus and they had to wait a long time for their turn to get on a bus.

I have never done Lyft or Uber but would love not waiting. If I don’t check baggage and get off plane how soon would a ride show in the app?

You can look at the app anytime. You can look right now and see what is available. It will show who is in the area . You can look up anywhere. It will also give you an idea the price at a certain time. If you don’t click on it there won’t come. We have also had drivers drop us but other people pick you up.

. Than they will tell you where they will pick you up. The post are numbered. You will also get a license palate number and colour to watch out for. Then when you see it you can wave and walk up to the car they will say who you are so they have the right person since a lot are waiting too.

On the app you will see there car moving coming toward you with a time saying it will be there.

Remember they don’t take cash all done on card and you have to go back in the app and tip the driver after you reach your destination. Even if you forget or it is a bit later you can still tip.

If you have not yet done so, you might consider setting up an account with one or both, and then practice with it around your home - just search for a ride between common points near you. You'll see how options come up on the app with different sized vehicles, different prices, and different estimated distances away. You don't need to actually request a ride while practicing.

You'll be more than confident using it for real at some point. My kids constantly told us about Uber for years and we never found a need. Now that we've been doing it for about 2 years, I wonder why we waited - especially for rides to/from airports. It's a very popular place for drivers to be waiting for a passenger. As is Disney World.

Great advice!

We use Uber or Lyft a lot. We have never had an issue getting a car but you do get that surge price if there happen to be a lot of people. I don't usually prebook in case we are delayed. We have never had an issue getting one between resorts either.

You can 'play' on the uber/lyif aps today. Check it about the time you will need it in March.
You will see the price and availability to see what if is in February even though your going in March.
I 'play' all the time just to see what the availability if I WAS GOING THAT DAY.
