We are supposed to fly to Orlando tomorrow morning for a b2b - 3 day embarking Thursday followed by 7 day embarking Sunday on the Fantasy. DS now has a fever (started yesterday) so I'm trying to think through what we'd need to do if we can't travel tomorrow - especially if we could still fly down Saturday for the 7 day Sunday. Would we be able to file a claim for just the 3 day or is trip insurance "all or none"? The 3 day was GTY but I'm not sure that matters at this point. I've never had to file a trip insurance claim and am hoping against hope that DS gets better over the course of today (he feels ok... just a little tired and the pesky fever).. Thanks in advance.

You have 2 separate cruises — are both covered under the same 3rd party policy? As PP said, cancelling the 3-night is probably covered but would require a doctor’s visit, which could be challenging due to the holiday for just a fever.

Correct - 2 separate cruises covered under one policy. We'd just leave home a few days later than planned and miss the first cruise. I'm going to take him to urgent care in a little bit to get a doctor's note just in case.

I hope it's nothing severe and you will be able to travel as planned.
My 2 cents: save EVERYTHING from your urgent care visit. Doctor's name, clinical notes, receipts, etc., just in case you do need to file a claim. Also, have your cruise receipts, cancelation notice, and credit card statements.
We had to miss a cruise one time, last minute injury, and it was helpful to have all our paperwork together to submit the claim. Also, as soon as you know if you have to cancel, CALL the travel insurance people and they can guide you through what you need. Definitely read your policy, as PP mentioned.
Good luck!

As long as the cost of the first cruise was included in the trip cost on which the insurance fare was based, you should be able to get reimbursement for it even if you can take the second cruise.

I agree with the advice to save all documents relating to the cruise and the illness. If the doctor advices your son not to travel, you will need that indicated explicitly. If you can find a form on the insurance company website for doctor’s statement, bringing it with you to the appointment will save you from having to get it signed later.

Good luck!

Couple updates. I called the travel insurance people just to check and she had no idea... she "checked" on it (i.e., chatted with someone more knowledgeable) - I kept asking if she could transfer me but she wouldn't. She made it seem like once I filed trip cancellation the policy would be void so we'd no longer be covered for the second cruise.. she said I could modify the first policy and then buy a new policy for a second cruise or something... it sounds like a hassle but we'll deal with it later today or tomorrow if we need to.

But, I took my son to urgent care and he was negative for strep, flu, and covid. HIs fever was down while we were there and the NP said she'd write us a note if we needed it but basically said "why wouldn't you go on the trip?" The fever comes and goes which makes me nervous but basically while we were there wasn't anything for her to document that would preclude us from going. So as of now we are full steam ahead.

Hope everything works out. Good luck and have a Happy New Year!

It’s 1 policy covering multiple aspects of travel. Missing the 1st cruise might be considered “trip interruption” rather than cancellation.

This is what I thought but she said before the trip leaves, cancellation is the only option. Hopefully we will be able to fly tomorrow and it's all a moot point!
