I was checking DCL to see about maybe doing a last minute sailing when I noticed that the Maiden of the Treasure is still not sold out.

Now that price for 2 Adults is insane but I am still surprised that there is still space this close to sailing.

Maybe cause 9k for inside cabin is crazy. You could do multiple cruises for those prices.

Okay I just looked - it has 2 deck 6 verandah cabins and 1 interior room on deck 2 left to book.
You are not wrong but it also is over Xmas. Next years sailing on the Treasure for Xmas 25 is over $7,700 for two in an inside stateroom

Also there is 1 interior on deck 2, 2 on deck 6 fwd, 5 on deck 7 fwd, and 2 verandahs on deck 6 aft- so 10 in total, not 3.

The cruises right before Christmas never work for our family... That said, I cannot justify summer vacation or Christmas break cruise prices on Disney... They are just prohibitive - especially when you know there will be completely filled boats doing the exact same things you can do a couple weeks later.

On the other hand, we do enjoy booking a trip right before Thanksgiving every year - that does come with a price premium, but we don't care.

We wanted to book the maiden but when we found it is over christmas said no thanks. Christmas is about family for us, and my kids still love the magic of waking up to the big tree with presents from Santa. Finally, it is not just the VERY expensive cruise—you also have to budget for very expensive peak holiday season flights and hotel. Doesn’t surprise me at all it isn’t sold out.

Never mind the maiden voyage - I looked at a cruise in late January 25 on the Treasure. Verandah cabin for two for 7 days to Caribbean was nearly the same cost as a 12-day Baltic we did in 2015. Nuh-uh.

To be fair, you’re talking about a 10 year difference- prices have risen across-the-board dramatically since 2015

This. Even if that Baltic were to be offered again (pretty sure most if not all lines are steering clear of that reason still) for 2025, I can guarantee you the price would be much higher.

There is no question that it would be much higher, but I can still do a 9-night Med cruise in June 2025 that goes to two ports I've never been to for the same price as I paid for that Baltic cruise 10 years ago, which I feel is not unreasonable. It shouldn't be equivalent in price to a 7-night Caribbean cruise to the usual ports just because it's a new ship. If I use the average daily rate for our most recent Wish cruise, the Treasure is 60% more for the same configuration and amenities. It will eventually happen, but we'll be waiting 9-12 months at least before we sail the Treasure for the price euphoria to diminish; we also want to see the kinks worked out before cruising on her.

as long as people pay it, they will....

RCL has gotten quite expensive with their new ships too - at least whenever I look...and they charge for so many plus ups too!
