I could really use some advice for our upcoming February trip. I'm not sure if I should get a car service or use Uber/Lyft or a combination.

We're flying from Canada into LAX and landing around 8:00 PM. Will head to Burbank hotel this night and have a couple of activities planned the next day in this area. We then need to return to our hotel to pick up our luggage and make our way to DL area hotel. Finally, we need to get from DL hotel to LAX for return 3:40 PM flight.

I need to sort out transportation for our group of 2:
LAX to Burbank hotel (around 8:00 PM)
Burbank hotel to DL area hotel (in the evening - I still have to book tours)
DL to LAX (for 3:40 PM flight)

I've just started looking into this process, but could really use some advice on what would be the smartest way to do this. I'm thinking renting a car wouldn't be a good idea because of the parking fees, and the car would just be parked at our DL hotel for the several days that we are there.

Thanks for your help everyone! Really excited about this upcoming trip.

I am from Ireland and I fly into LAX. I am just back from my annual trip and I use Midwilshuttle. I dont have cell service in California, so I use the free WiFi.

With Midwilshuttle I pay online in advance. Its approx $100 for me , solo female, with 1 checked bag per journey. This time I did LAX to Glendale.

I tell them on the booking form that I am international and they have a WhatsAp number. As soon as I land I connect to the free LAX Wifi and text them to let them know I have arrived and waiting for my bag. The pick up point is outside the main arrival door. They tell you to text the number of the area you are standing at. I also text them a selfie. They will give you the drivers name and the car registration number.

The cars are always clean and other than the normal LAX traffic, theres never any delay with pick up.

I'd just Uber or Lyft all of these. Each of these routes are showing about $60 for me right now, though that will fluctuate depending on time. Just choose whichever is cheaper at the moment - they can be quite different so I always log onto both to check.

They're plentiful so you shouldn't have any trouble getting one - just make sure you give yourself enough time - depending on the day of the week, traffic can be bad. But it looks like both your LAX=>BUR and BUR=>DL are evenings so those should be better. And your 3:40 flight probably means driving around mid-day, which traffic shouldn't be at it's worse.

Edited to add: Just FYI - if you use uber/lyft at LAX - you'll need to take the bus from the terminal to LAXit where pickups are. I don't know if shuttles can get closer, though personal passenger cars can. The buses come often, but it is one extra piece you have to navigate. I'd still personally do uber, but I'm usually focused on saving money for a little extra inconvenience.

What activities are you planning to do in Burbank? If you're not renting a car your option to get around there is Uber/Lyft

A car service from LAX to Burbank and Burbank to DL and DL to LAX would be the most hassle free but possibly the most expensive. Depending on when you leave Burbank (afternoon on weekday vs weekend) the amount of traffic to Disneyland could make ride share the most expensive option, e.g.: I've paid over $100 get from Little Tokyo to Disneyland due to surge pricing on a weekday afternoon.

Use ride shares if you want to save money, but you might have to wait out traffic to do so. Use the car service if you want to lock in the cost that will probably be more money but you'll know the cost upfront.

Something locals don't understand is how overwhelming it is arriving into LAX and not knowing how to get to the LAXIT area for Uber and Lyft pick ups. After a long flight, suddenly going from the flight, into the terminal and then out the door into the sensory overload of the traffic, people , etc is very disorientating.

A car service pick up which is pre paid is just so much better and stress free. Theres no worry about where to go, how much it will cost, or even telling the driver your destination, as its all pre arranged.

UBER UBER
Are you local?? Do you understand what its like as an international to arrive into LAX for the first time, and how stressful it can be to get faced with the noise, the traffic, the heat , the hustle and bustle of LAX and then try to find how to get to the LAXIT area and then get an UBER and not know how much it will cost???

Heck, I live in CA (not a local though) and it stresses me out just to think about it. If I were with someone who knew about such things, I might Uber, but for myself I'd be much more comfortable with the ride service. I'm from a rural area and I travel as a single woman so I'm more interested in peace of mind than the savings I could get in a situation like that.

Edited to add that I almost always use ride share when I go to DLR, but I never fly into LAX.

I have traveled to various countries and find using ride sharing pretty straightforward and inexpensive. Some places have you travel to another location and they always have pretty clear signs. I can understand if one isn’t comfortable with ride sharing for other reasons but if you’re looking for a well-priced option, I would recommend Uber or Lyft.

For international cell calls, which don't use your existing call allowance, do give an app called Talkatone a try. Available for iOS and Android phones & also tablets) the app gives you a free US number, which you can use to call US phone numbers for free too. Seriously, there is no catch at all with this.

I prefer to use WhatsAp on free Wifi, as everyone I know uses it. I dont need a US number.

How many people and how much luggage? I would probably do car service to Burbank and then Uber or XL to the other locations.

We were going to use Uber/Lyft to get around Burbank. I'm a big classic film fan, and we're doing the TCM Warner Brother's Tour and I'd really like to go to Griffith Park. I figured it would be easier to use a Ride Share.

Our flight lands at around 8:00 on Friday night, and we'd be heading from Burbank to Disneyland area on a Saturday (probably early evening)

Thanks so much everyone - I really appreciate the input and responses!!!! It really helps.

As someone who has *never* taken a ride share (I live in an area where it isn't an option) and all other travel we've done it hasn't made sense, will it be a big deal if I'm a BRAND NEW account? Like will a driver be reluctant to pick us up if we don't have a history with the App?

I don’t think so, especially if you’re at an airport getting picked up. If you were in middle of nowhere asking for some random ride, maybe people would second guess, but landing in LAX, people just want good rides that pay well and they know there are people coming in from all over.
