My adult daughter and I are going to spend a night (1 1/2 days) in Toronto. We are interested in Chinatown (Dim Sum), Kensington Market area and Yonge-Dundas. I know my daughter would also like to go to a distillery or a good place for wine (maybe a wine tasting). It will probably be a Sunday night. We would like someplace we can walk around during the day and be active at night. We're pretty comfortable travelers. I'm looking for opinions on where would be the best area to stay in. Will Yonge-Dundas be active at night on a Sunday? Or would another area also be good for being out and about at night? Should we stay in the downtown area and travel to the other places, or stay in the Chinatown/Kensington are and travel to downtown? Fairly safe?

Any other thoughts on what we shouldn't miss? Any halloween happenings?

Thanks,
Jessica

All the areas you mention are very close to each other and all are considered downtown. This is a huge city and the downtown is also huge. Yonge/Dundas is not a district, it's literally a corner. That's where the Eaton Centre is, it's a mall. Chinatown and Kensington Market are interesting but it's a very crazy, congested area. Would I stay there...no. It's a place to spend a couple of hours during the day. I suggest you stay in the Entertainment district, Financial district or around Union Station. That area is more of a hub. There is a place called the Distillery district but it's too far to walk from Union and I would not advise you to walk around outside of there at night, in particular when you're not from here.

Can confirm the area around Eaton Centre is very busy well into evening but not sure how entertaining/entertainment it is. Just lots of people!

Cant give you any wine areas, but the Distillery district refers to where Gooderham and Worts factory was. It has a bunch of niche artsy shops, couple of nice restaurants. For where to stay,,,Whats your budget? it really comes down to that, and most are not cheap.
Sunday nights are not too busy around town and depends on the vibe your looking for.
Not a lot of help since everything is vague, but there are so many variables you could be looking at, also what time of year?

If you’re looking for a nice(r) place for dim sum, check out Pearl Harbourfront. My office is in the financial district of downtown Toronto and would recommend staying in that area or near Harbourfront, more tourists and relatively safer than the Chinatown/Kensington market area. If you must go there, go during the morning/afternoon.
