Three Things...Gratitude Thread

It's the time of year for resolutions and healthy habits!

Today's Topic (Thu, 1/2) - 3 healthy things (habits, food, products...) that you're grateful for

Healthy Habit ??? I’m not sure I understand the question???🤣🤣🤣

Yeah I need to find some hopefully I’ll get some today from all the answers people are going to post because if there’s one thing I don’t have is healthy habits

My sleeping habits are horrendous and always have been I have never had good sleeping habits and it’s something I’ve tried working on for years and I am still in a working in progress situation on those they’ve improved considerably except I’m sleeping in a chair in the living room instead of in my bed it’s a long story but I’m getting really good sleep in that chair Just not my bed 🤣🤣🤣 I’m averaging a good 4 to 5 hours in that chair which is really good for me but I’d prefer to be in my bed so I’m working on a transition from a chair to a bed I don’t pick the chair my system seems to be picking it 🤣🤣🤣 so it’s so much better than the two hours I was in my bed so there we go it’s a work in progress

My eating habits well they have always been horrendous my gallbladder has bothered me for 10 years and I just recently had it out a few weeks ago so my eating habits are still horrendous I’m on a pretty bland diet right now still I average one meal a day have for years now and that one meal is usually toast or granola bar it’s usually something very small and very bland maybe a baked potato so I know I’m missing lots of vitamins but I can’t take a multivitamin because of my IC which limits me extremely on what I can eat so one of my goals This year is to try to find things that I can eat that are healthier

I used to walk every day to get exercise and I had to stop doing that so one of my goals this year is to find some kind of exercising that I can do that won’t aggravate my neck & back but I’ll be able to do some exercising so I think I found a few things I can do during the winter and then once it’s not freezing cold with that nasty snow I can start walking again

But healthy habits I have few I do drink a lot of water so that would probably be my only one!!

So I’m definitely going to be reading everybody’s response so I can pick up a few!!! Y’all gonna be my inspiration!! Because I seriously don’t have any and I know this🤣🤣🤣 this old dog needs to learn some new tricks!!

Good Thursday Morning

#1 - Working Out - For those that know me well, know how much I love working out. I’ve enjoyed working out my entire adult life. COVID was brutal for me when I couldn’t go to the gym. During COVID, I replaced my old elliptical with a new one and bought myself more dumbbells. I got pretty good workouts at home.

#2 - Going To The Gym - I love love love going to the gym. I have my routines that I enjoy. I have lots of people that I met there, that I enjoy seeing (always the same cast characters when I go, and I consider myself one of those characters - LOL). It’s definitely one of my happy places.

#3 - Meals At Home - We eat out very little, and we eat almost no fast food. I’m proud of ourselves for being like this. Going out to dinner is a treat for us not a normalcy. I don’t like how I feel after I eat out a lot or especially after I eat fast food. As much as I enjoy going on vacation, the one thing I do not like, is how I feel with being out of our food routine of eating meals at home.

Walking - I'm really trying to get my fitness back on track. I'm not big into New Year's resolutions, so I wanted to get the ball rolling before the holiday. About 3 weeks ago, I started going for a walk before logging into work most mornings. It's nothing major...usually 1.25-1.75 miles, but it's been a good way to get a positive start to my day. Here and there, I've also been walking at lunch or after work and I've had a few days where I've had more time and put in longer walks in the 4-5 mile range.

Stationary Bike - My home office also doubles as a home gym. I have a stationary bike in here that I really like. It was the backbone of my last personal health revolution. I'm trying to incorporate it into what I started 3 weeks ago...especially since it's convenient, climate controlled, and I know it works. I've been trying to bike a minimum 10 miles on days when I only get in one walk and a minimum of 15 miles on days where I don't walk at all. Like yesterday, I didn't walk but I biked 17.21 miles.

Gym membership - This is on the horizon, but we're hoping to join a gym very soon. Most of the gyms around here are very expensive, but we've got a new Planet Fitness going in about 5-7 minutes away. We used to go to one in a town just north of us, but it was far enough away that we could only make time after work...which meant sitting in traffic for a 30-45 minute drive just to get there. Either way, it's a much more reasonable price point, I like their equipment, and the shorter drive means we're much more likely to go more often.

Healthy habit? I'm with @WDWEPCOT on this one!

Seriously, though... Getting back to a normal routine is what is healthiest for me.
>The junk food/desserts/candy are all out of the house, so no random, mindless snacking is MUCH better for my waistline.
>Returning to normal work and school hours means I go to bed at a regular/normal time and get more sleep. (A corollary to this is that as I will be back at work, I won't be home in the afternoons, reading and snoozing, which then messes up my ability to sleep through the night.)
>Even though "everyday" life can be stressful, having the added stress of holiday expectations is removed, which is better for my mental health, and there is less time compression each day.
>Now that everyone is back on their normal schedule (mostly), we are also back to meal planning and associated chores. I know what we are having for dinner all week, as well as who is in charge of getting it on the table. This means we are eating more healthily, as well as incorporating planned shopping and consumption of leftovers, which saves money!

82 I’ll take it ! We are not even 32 !!! And we’re bracing for snow like significant snow and possibly ice 82 sounds like heaven to me !!!!

Yeah, we're keeping an eye out for a weather system next week. We don't handle cold/winter precip very well in these parts. I'm seeing a couple days with projected lows around 30 and starting to worry. If these are light freezes, I can get away with minimal prep and effort, but It's no small task to prep for a hard freeze here. At least one of us also needs to drive to OK and back next weekend to return DD18 to college. It'll be a nightmare if there's any freezing precip in the mix.

My issue is taking the dog out he loves it I’m worried about breaking a bone🤣🤣🤣 and then trying to get him back in the house because he loves playing on the snow and he can walk on ice I can’t

That's where I'm very grateful that we can just let our dog out into the yard. We finally got our fencing fully repaired from the hurricane damage. So, it's just a matter of opening up the back door when she wants to go out. She's only been exposed to ice/snow once, and that was 4 years ago, so I'm not sure what she'd do with it if we get any this year. She didn't go nuts with it, but she was quite curious last time around. I also still sound happy, so this had to have been before we lost power.

Too cute !! My lab goes nuts He thinks he is a husky🤣🤣🤣🙄🙄🙄
You get him out there and he does not wanna come in in my yard is not fenced and I can’t fence it And he absolutely loves the snow!!! He just likes being outside. Thankfully he doesn’t mind the rain ☔️ ice Doesn’t seemed to bother him either I will put them on a long tire outline stand at the door if it’s icy Then I’m worried he’s gonna break a bone and then what am I gonna do??? I just hate winter !!!
But he doesn’t care for thunderstorms not one bit!! We usually have some very loud music on if it’s going to be a loud thunderstorm He seems to enjoy 90s or swing

Sprouts Original Applesauce, a daily staple for me is all natural without sugar. It has a sweet apple taste that I so love.

Plain old water. We get Sparkletts delivered and buy cases of Aquafina. Dad enjoys flavored waters, regular for me.

Grace of God, I am getting more sleep lately. Such a blessing that makes a huge difference to me.

Today's Topic (Thu, 1/2) - 3 healthy things (habits, food, products...) that you're grateful for
1) walking on the treadmill - I established this habit quite a while ago, and I'm pretty consistent about it. Even on busy days, I tend to do a little, just to preserve the routine.

2) getting some sunshine every day (as long as Mother Nature cooperates) - This is key to my mental health, and I really feel the difference when I make sure to get outside. The cold doesn't bother me, as long as it's sunny.

3) a healthy product - good sneakers! DH especially has to be careful to get them fitted properly, or he can be prone to hip/back pain.

Fruit !!! Huge fan of fruit It’s nature candy I eat way too much of it I often have to Curb back my fruit habits Lately I’ve gotten into fruit popsicles made from fruit juice they’re absolutely delicious I limit myself to one tiny one every night they’re just so tasty

Friends - having gone through a major life event I got to find out who my true friends were and I am very blessed to know who my true friends are I lost one that I thought was a true friend and found out they weren’t and it hurt but I am very grateful that I found that out and I’m exceptionally grateful for two that I met on this Board they have been rocks for me !! It’s always great making new friends I miss thread has been such a great inspirational thing for me

Food I have a love-hate relationship with food my eating habits are horrendous I mean I don’t eat nothing but junk I hardly eat any fast food I just have some system problems that I’m trying to get worked out that caused me to have a love-hate relationship with food I’d love to eat some food my system does not love for me eating it🤣🤣 it seems like the only food it doesn’t mind is chocolate oh thank God for that because I do love chocolate but I don’t need to have a diet of nothing but chocolate although it would be delicious it’s just not good for me!! But I am grateful that I can afford to buy food and I live somewhere where I can buy whatever I want if I can afford it🤣🤣

TGIF Everyone! :cool1:

#1 - Friendship - I’m very grateful, and very blessed, for the friendships I’ve made throughout my life.

#2 - Flowers - I’ll be grateful for these in May, I’ll be looking at flowers again at my house, and at other people’s houses, as I drive around or take the dog for a walk. I can hardly wait because I can’t stand how everything looks dead and boring this time of year.

#3 - Fence - I’m very grateful to have a fenced in yard. Not only does it keep little Otis in our yard, but it also helps keep all the critters around here out. The raccoons and possums still manage to get in here, but the big animals like deer and coyotes stay out.

Freedom - I think we often are so accustomed to our norms and don't have enough direct exposure to other countries and cultures (myself included) to really grasp how good we have it.

Maternal Grandmother - She was an F name.

Fence - As noted in a previous post, I'm still celebrating the restoration of our fence. The reality is that Voodoo is so obedient that she would just walk by the gaps and never even hint at running out. Fixing it restored our privacy.
