Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I'm a bit behind...

Solitary Activities...
Walking - I really like to go out an walk on the trails by myself. No, it's not as safe as going with a buddy, but I like hearing the sounds of nature and being in my thoughts as I move around.
First one up - I am usually the first one awake on weekend mornings. I love having those couple of hours to myself. Sometimes I'm lazy, sometimes I'm productive, but it's me time either way.
Driving - I love a solo drive. It's part of why I didn't mind the time by myself going up to OK last Tuesday.

December...
Holiday Programming - I love being able to flip around the channels and see all of those holiday favorites among the options.
Decorations - Our town has three different simultaneous holiday decorating contests. A lot of people really go all out. In our last neighborhood, we were considered one of the over the top decorated homes, but we're pretty average here. It's nice to pass by all of the lights whether you're running an errand, taking the dog for an evening walk, or intentionally driving around to look. I spent nearly 10 hours yesterday setting up our yard.
Food - I love all of the special things in stock at the store and the various dishes people make just because it's the season.

Online...
Shopping - From holiday shopping, sporting goods, and clothing to travel and groceries...I love that it can all be done so easily.
Research - While I still love going into libraries and prefer a physical book for enjoyment reading, online research is so nice. I wish we had it back when I was in school.
Photo Storage - While nothing is without risk, I have fully embraced online storage over having a bunch of printed photos. I have close to 100k photos in my digital storage. I wish I had started this when DD18 was a baby, but I was overwhelmed with her and preferred my film camera over the the digital I had back then.

Inspired by the Christmas lights I've been seeing on people's houses...

Today's Topic (Tues, 12/3) - 3 light-related things you're grateful for

Christmas lights! I keep the multicolored icicle lights on my porch up all year, replacing them as they burn out. I love Christmas lights!

Stars in the night sky. When I first left home and would be homesick, I'd look at the night sky and remember that my family, friends, and I were all seeing the same thing at the same time, just from different locations. It brought me some comfort.

Rainbows. If it weren't for the physics of light, we'd not have one of nature's most beautiful shows!

Good Tuesday Morning

#1 - Christmas Lights In My House - I actually am grateful for Christmas lights everywhere, but I’m gonna focus on my decorations. I have lots of lights going on inside my house this time of year - sun lights are stationary and sun lights twinkle. I’m really loving those rice lights where you can set them for different types of patterns. I have them in four different areas and I’d like to add some more next year.. Lots of timers are used this time of year to turn everything off and on. This house looks so boring after I take everything down.

#2 - The Dome Light in the car - I’m very grateful for the dome lights this time of year when it gets dark out at 4:30 in the afternoon.

#3 - Fiber Optic Decorations - I love love love favorite stuff. I have a few Halloween decorations that are fiber optic, I have my grandma’s Christmas tree that is fiber optic, a few other Christmas decorations that are fiber optic and my Christmas wreath above the fireplace is fiber optic. I just love it! At one time you could find a lot of fiber optic stuff but not so much anymore which kinda makes me me sad, because I would like some fiber, active decorations for every holiday.

Holiday Lights - I have never met a set of holiday lights I didn't love. I really want to make the shift to the fully programmable RGB ones, but I have so many strings of regular lights...and if they work, they MUST go into the display.

Phone Flashlight - I used to keep a flashlight in my nightstand and a few around the house in case of emergency or I was up in the middle of the night and didn't want to get up to turn on the overhead light. Modern phones = flashlight everywhere!

Working Traffic Lights - You don't realize how much they keep roads safer and more civilized until the power goes out.

(Mon, 12/2) - 3 things you're grateful to be able to do on a computer
1. Research! I LOVE Google.
2. Listen to music
3. Play games

(Tues, 12/3) - 3 light-related things you're grateful for
1. Rainbows
2. The sun (and the Son... :) )
3. Candle light services on Christmas Eve

Good Wednesday Morning!

#1 - Plastic Containers - I have several cube shaped containers that I use for food/leftovers in different sizes - I use them all the time.

#2 - Velvet Wrapped Boxes - I have these under my formal Christmas tree - they are over 20 years old. They are so pretty under the tree.

#3 - Ice Cubes - You don’t realize how much you use them until your icemaker in the refrigerator breaks. My husband uses a lot of ice cubes. He’s not a big fan of water unless it’s super super cold. I use ice a decent amount in the warm weather months, but not so much in cold weather months.

My packing cubes !!! These things are great !!!!
My toiletry bag - I just purchased a new one that a flight attendant I follow on Instagram recommended I’m in love with it it was absolutely the best most amazing bag I have used in 40 years I wholeheartedly agree with her that it’s the best toiletry bag ever I absolutely love it
Was blown away with how much stuff I could pack into it and it still stayed in nice little square cube

I’m old school I like my ice cubes in a square I think it’s just out of habit because that’s the way I’m used to getting them but that’s how I like them a nice big chunky square When I go into work my boss has a little ice machine and he has those little circle ice cubes and those things don’t last very long but you get those nice big chunky ice cubes and those things last forever I’m very grateful for ice When my refrigerator broke a few weeks ago that was the one thing that I miss so much was I had no ice because I was stupid and had gotten rid of my ice cube trays And something Amy said you should keep these and I’m like no I don’t need these so I got rid of them and not two months later my refrigerator broke and I could not make ice I have a garage refrigerator if I would’ve had ice cube trays I could’ve made ice - Thankfully my neighbors gave me ice every day bless their hearts So every day I went over to their house with a big old bowl and got me a bowl of big chunky square ice !! 🧊 So yes I’m very grateful for ice!! I have it in my coffee every morning Because I like to drink iced coffee I rarely drink hot coffee !! Yes I could’ve went and bought a bag of ice but I don’t like that kind of ice

Happy Wednesday:grouphug:

This is a hard one for me!

Dad uses ice cube for which I'm grateful.

Memories of playing QBert as a kid. I think QBert jumped onto cubes.

I have a storage unit here in my bedroom that is 4 cubes with individual doors on each one. Very handy and is deep enough to hold my Nativity set and also scrapbook albums.

OH my gosh I LOVED Q-Bert!! Most people don't even remember this game, but we played it endlessly in grad school!

I remember QBert as well :goodvibes

I think he also made an appearance in the Wreck It Ralph movie(s).

Cubes:

Milk crates - my go to storage back in my dorm room days and I even still have a couple now.

Small decorated boxes that just came out when I unpacked Christmas decorations - they have ornament hooks and spare tree light bulbs in them.

Dice for games that our family plays at holidays.

Cubicles - I'm in the actual office today and working in a cubicle. I normally work from my office at home, but our company is doing a bunch of big holiday things today. Our cubes are called "hoteling stations" as most of us gave up our assigned desk space in favor of a remote environment. It's pretty packed in here today, so I'm grateful I was able to book a cube for the day.

Sugar Cubes - DH and I took an anniversary trip one year to NOLA and made a stop at the absinthe bar. It wouldn't be my first choice of drinks but it's a fun memory of having an expert help us select a bottle and then go through the process of having it poured over a sugar cube to sweeten the beverage. It was the end of the bottle and it was a cool bottle, so they let us keep it as a souvenir. Still, I always think back to the pour and watching the cube dissolve.

Illuminated Gift Boxes - While they've seen better days, I have some outdoor decorations that I still love and put out every year. It's a set of eight translucent plastic colored boxes with heavy duty satin ribbons to make them look like gift boxes. Each one has a C9 sized light inside to illuminated the cube gift boxes.

Cubes-

Dice! One of our favorite games is Farkle- and you can't play it without dice!

Sugar cubes- This is a throwback to childhood. My grandparents used sugar cubes instead of granulated sugar. They used to let us drip tea (or bourbon...) on the cube and then suck it off. Good memories, although questionable!

Bouillon cubes. I know some folks don't like them, and I'd honestly rather use homemade broth/stock or stock from a box/can, but they are handy in a pinch, and also when traveling or camping.
