The Widow & the Spinster Take a Bougie WBTA Cruise That Didn't Suck! - A Delightfully Delicious Dinner! 1/27

Ugh. Too early!
Yup way too early. And it happened to me again this morning.
Perhaps this is why the maintenance guy was so anxious to leave...

:duck:
Our farts smell like rose petals! :snooty:
Unfortunate. Sounds like maybe it sat for a while.
Pretty much, which is why this will be the last time you see us having breakfast in the MDR.
:snooty:
(I have no doubt, actually.)
::yes:: You saw the picture!
So... you're saying they really wanted you to wear your swimsuits.
Well at least the gals at the check-in desk
Okay, then... just... odd. :confused3
Well these gals were going to be massaging us naked, so what did they care?
:lmao:
"What's that weird thing in my hand?"
"I don't know, but I got one too!"
I know right! :lmao:
Clearly not. I like how they're soft shell too.
Also easier to not break the shells while making them.
What a lovely picture of you two. :goodvibes
Thanks! :goodvibes
Really! Interesting. I've never seen one outside of a ramekin. Huh!
I thought it was a great idea!
So... I had to google. I've always thought a Sauterne was a simple cooking wine. I was so wrong!
Oh, no! And they can be quite pricey! Especially when well aged.
Looks interesting, but, while I do like pistachios, I'm not usually a fan of them in things.
I don't like them so much on their own, but I've recently had some very delicious things made with pistachios.
Okay... I almost never can do wine pairings... but I sure could have on this one.
You definitely would have liked this one.
I may have to book a Disney cruise just for this.

But they only do this on the Dream and the Fantasy. Ships with a Remy restaurant.

The desserts look lovely! But I am not sure I would want to eat more than two at once. Even if they are only European sweet and not American sweet. The lemon thing is what makes me consider the whole experience…

They were definitely filling, and pretty much served as our main meal of the day. However the actual portions are still somewhat small, so it doesn't seem like too much food.

The story about the TV guy made me laugh! That could have been totally me! I always figure these people see the strangest things, so me fully covered is not in anyway strange if others walk around in swim suits.

I know! More of me was covered than half the people out on the pool deck!

Certainly not the best fruit plate ever (I'll make up for it in Hawaii!) but a light start to the day.
So are we buying the fruit and making our own fruit plates? I forgot if we planned for more than one breakfast out. :confused3
I can attest that Alison's french toast is MUCH better!
:goodvibes
The treatment was amazing and I love the whole spa suite experience.
Yes, but the only way you can do it on the Dream and Fantasy is as a couple. On the Wonder and Magic, they call it alone time. I'm sad to be skipping it on the next trip, but too short not to be able to spend the time with friends!
The holding of hands was weird but I didn't realize it was Alison's hand until we talked afterwards. 🤣
It was hysterical after the fact but I felt bad for the guy. He did get the TV fixed so we could know what time it was again!
I didn't even notice his discomfort. :lmao:
Best Remy experience this trip (foreshadowing!)
Dun. Dun. Dun........
This was delicious!
::yes::
I enjoyed this as well.
:thumbsup2
I forgot it was supposed to be a cabbage but it was delicious!
I was going to say this was my least favorite.....
I didn't love this for some reason...maybe I was just trying to save room for.......
Until they served us that one.
Not this although it was yummy. The candied hazelnuts were so good!
I really liked this!
.....this! The citron is a work of art and so delicious. I've seen how something like this is made and its so labor intensive! I believe the server said it took 2 days to make.
But yes! This is my favorite as well. Such skill to make it and so tasty!

I'm laughing so hard right now at your maintenance story. Similar things have happened with me and the room checks at WDW resorts where I'm napping after a shower and they come in.

Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal, but evidently some guys get freaked out because a woman could claim, who knows what?

Those desserts look so nice! That was sold out on my recent cruise so I didn't get to do it - guess that's an issue for next time.

I'm so happy to be Platinum and able to book earlier than lots, it's a "must" on the Dream class ships for me. Speaking of which, I completely missed your report on your Fantasy Cruise. I'll need to go back and read that!

I'm not huge into either of these, although they are for sure different than the usual cantaloupe and honeydew

You'll see what I like coming up, well you already did, on the days where I got snacks from the buffet before we went out on land.

This does not loop appearing at all

Which is why you won't see us having breakfast in the MDR any more on this trip.

Hehe I didn't notice it till your note

I didn't see it on my phone, it wasn't until I was looking from my computer and previewing the TR before posting it that I saw it!

So what was yours then?

If I remembered I would have told you!

Maybe he was new? I would have thought he'd be used to various scenarios

Or maybe he'd already had someone falsely charge him with something.....or heard horror stories?

Reasonable cost for the wines!

Honestly, I think the entire thing was pretty reasonable. Especially with what's to come. (foreshadowing :rotfl2:)

This is so cute!

They did a great job with the desserts!

This looks a bit overdone to me, assuming it didn't taste overdone?

That was a caramel sort of topping not overcooked.

I've seen pics of this before, what a beauty! I'm glad it was as good as it looked!

This was like the 4th time I've had this! It never gets old!

We had just finished the Remy desserts. Jill went back to the room, while I went down to the Atrium to take some pictures with backgrounds.

Because it was Formal Night and the Welcome Reception, they were giving out free drinks, and the place was packed. I felt seriously underdressed so I went back to the room and changed into my formal night dress. Then I went back down and got some more photos in my formal wear.

Jill met me at the staircase and we went down to dinner at Enchanted Garden. Neither of us were very hungry from the desserts, but we'd picked out our choices already.

We started with the Perogi. These were definitely good. And we ordered a bottle of the Kim Crawford Pinot Noir.

1f738572-2fba-4620-98f8-8e3e796596f2.jpg

Jill ordered the Split Pea and Ham Soup, and just before she was about to take a bite, our server said, “It looks like baby food to me.” Which absolutely grossed Jill out. This woman is NOT going to get upgraded on her final tip. It flustered Jill so bad, she didn’t even take a picture of her soup.

She served me the Lobster Ravioli, which tasted so fishy I could not eat it.

Jill had ordered the Pork Tenderloin, she gave me a little piece and it was pretty tasty, but as I said, we weren't that hungry. I ate a bite or two.

We passed on dessert. And went back to the room. We drank about ¾ of the bottle of wine, so we decided to take it back to the room. Besides, we wouldn't be back in the MDR for the next two nights.

There are fruit stands on the side of the road...I'm planning on stopping and getting some cut up fruit to snack on. We need to finish planning!

They are pretty good...they remind me of the frozen ones.

OMG! This lady. She could have her mouth shut. There was no reason to make the comment and then its all I could think of when I ate my bite. The soup was ok...a little grainy....but I was so put off by the server that I didn't eat the rest.

It was good. Pork was tender and not dried out like it can be. The spaetzle was just ok...it needed more sauce.

Not okay!

I'm positive you're correct.
Pretty much, which is why this will be the last time you see us having breakfast in the MDR.
Ah!

Unfortunately, I can't see any of those pictures. Don't know why. And I waited until I was home to look on my laptop.

You look terrific! :)
Love the fringe. :)
We started with the Perogi. These were definitely good.
Good! I love Perogies, but with our huge Ukrainian population here, I've gotten pretty picky with them.
Jill ordered the Split Pea and Ham Soup
mmmm... yum...
and just before she was about to take a bite, our server said, “It looks like baby food to me.” Which absolutely grossed Jill out. This woman is NOT going to get upgraded on her final tip. It flustered Jill so bad, she didn’t even take a picture of her soup.
What the hell??? What server does that?!?!? I'd be put off too! I think I would've sent it back immediately and spoken to the manager afterwards. If ticked off enough, I might have asked to never have that server again.
She served me the Lobster Ravioli, which tasted so fishy I could not eat it.
Ugh. Old seafood. Nope.
Jill had ordered the Pork Tenderloin, she gave me a little piece and it was pretty tasty,
Thank goodness something was good.

The spaetzle was just ok...it needed more sauce.
I noticed that. It's like serving plain boiled pasta. No one would eat that.

This weekend! Only four more days! party:
They are pretty good...they remind me of the frozen ones.
I'm not sure I've had frozen ones. I wouldn't be surprised if these were.
OMG! This lady. She could have her mouth shut. There was no reason to make the comment and then its all I could think of when I ate my bite. The soup was ok...a little grainy....but I was so put off by the server that I didn't eat the rest.

And that's sad, cause Spaetzle is so good. I made Kasespaetzle Friday night. Yum!

I'm guessing you were eventually able to see them since you commented? :confused3

Awwww thanks!
Good! I love Perogies, but with our huge Ukrainian population here, I've gotten pretty picky with them.
I bet. They aren't very common here at all.
What the hell??? What server does that?!?!? I'd be put off too! I think I would've sent it back immediately and spoken to the manager afterwards. If ticked off enough, I might have asked to never have that server again.
We didn't really think of that. I suppose we could have asked to be relocated to another server's territory.
Ugh. Old seafood. Nope.
:sad2:
Thank goodness something was good.
And luckily we weren't that hungry from the big "lunch" of desserts.
I noticed that. It's like serving plain boiled pasta. No one would eat that.
Not even slathered in butter. 😢

Day 10

I think I slept mostly through the night, we had nothing until the spa at 1:30 and our only real solid plan was to visit the Rainforest Room beforehand. We were awake by 7:30, and decided to have breakfast at the buffet. We were there by 9AM and we each picked fairly light selections.

a279beb5-a403-4452-866b-3ea99d85fd9a.jpg

We took some pictures with the photographers until about 10:30. Tonight was Pirate night and it was Jill’s actual birthday. The characters were all out in the Pirate finest!

After the pictures, we took a look through the jewelry stores. There's a necklace I might get, we will see. We went back up to the room for about an hour before we got some snacks at the pool deck. I got another taco. The one I had the other day was soooo good!

Jill got Chicken fingers and fries.

And then I got a crappy ice cream cone. It wasn't that bad, we just don't love soft serve, but it was free and hit the spot.

6466b4aa-002a-4a7b-8e77-b812caf947bc.jpg

We went to check in for our spa services. Jill was getting a facial, hair wash, and blowout. I was getting a manicure as mine had started to chip. After 2 ½ weeks, it was looking pretty sorry. We had planned to hang out in the Rainforest Room for about an hour and when we got there, one of the hot tubs was empty, so we took advantage of that.

There were two tile loungers open, but while we were in the hot tub, they got taken. So we were waiting for two to open up. Everyone but the two people who took the loungers while we were in the hot tub had been laying in them since before we arrived. We had been in the hot tub a good 20 minutes and no one was budging. C’mon people, this isn’t an alternate place to sleep and escape your kids in the room. But yet it seemed quite a few people were using it for just that.

Eventually a man and woman left their chairs and Jill jumped out of the tub. I followed and we were able to snag their loungers. The tiles didn't have any time to cool off and I was burning to death on my lounger the whole time. I put a second towel underneath me to ward off some of the heat.

49e098c8-a2a7-46f6-811f-25e353c54d73.jpg

After about 30 minutes we needed to get ready for our treatments. I changed back into street clothes for my manicure. Not sure what Jill did, but she did give me her bathing suit to take back to the room. I got a gel manicure in a color to match my dress for the evening. For some reason I kept nodding off during the manicure.

I was still a tad bit hungry after I finished at the spa so I got a garden salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette, after the manicure

866df39e-8735-420d-a515-d7daa2a47ef6.jpg

And I stopped at the Vista Cafe for a couple of sweets.

d462fbd9-3926-4a17-863d-2007b0aabd5d.jpg

On my way I saw “the gang” lining up for staircase pictures. The lines for these were so long, it snaked several times back and forth in the lobby and then extended past the Guest Services desk all the way to the shops. I was happy just to take a shot from the balcony.

I went back to the room and crawled in bed. But I found this on the door as it was Jill’s actual birthday.

04f8dd1f-f927-4067-8a24-fe924aff11ab.jpg

I heard my WhatsApp chirping, Jenny and Jill’s sound, and then I heard Jill's tone. I didn't want to get out of bed to check the phone (my side of the bed didn't have any plugs) because it was charging on the counter by the mirror.

Pretty soon Jill walked in the door, so I decided to get up. I'd had about an hour to rest. Tonight was Remy Dinner for Jill's birthday. We had planned to go down to the atrium to take some pictures around 6:30, and we had about two hours until then. We played around on our phones for a bit before we both started to get ready.

I’ll be back with us all gussied up and ready to go out on the town.

Great pic of us!
I really like how this turned out too!
Jill got Chicken fingers and fries.

I love this outfit!

We started with the Perogi.
I actually had a couple of these for lunch today, leftover from supper last night! Homemade ones, so they were very good...I prefer mine boiled with loads of melted butter, that's how my grandma would prepare and serve hers

“It looks like baby food to me.”
What the actual...why on earth would she say this....seriously lady
Mmmm spätzle! Would entice me to possibly order this dish

M got this too, a nice touch!

Bring on dinner whoop whoop!!

Because it was Formal Night and the Welcome Reception, they were giving out free drinks
I love formal night for the free drinks! My husband and I went on a 7 night sailing on the Fantasy for our 15th anniversary, and on formal night we loved this particular pink drink, but there was only 1 on each tray. We just kept milling around until another server came by with a pink one to grab. We definitely hung around the lobby a lot longer on that night than any other, ha!

So pretty! I love the fringe on your dress!

Time in the spa and rainforest room sounds absolutely lovely. But I would be very annoyed by people monopolizing the loungers! At least you got to use the hot tub for a bit, too, while you had to wait.

Great pic of us!
I really like how this turned out too!
And you know what? Both these pictures are in a frame on the wall in the Hallway where I am trying to reclaim my friends as my new family.
Gotta have chicken fingers on a cruise! They were weird European ones but they still counted!

I'm glad you were pleased. Chicken fingers are not a thing for me on a cruise, but I know you like them, because I've seen you eat them on every cruise we've been on together.

I started "crappy ice cream cone." Alison wanted one the day before...before Remy desserts. I asked her if she was sure she wanted a crappy ice cream cone if we were having fabulous desserts and she decided to pass but she made up for it this day!

I think we should try to get everyone on my birthday cruise to try a "crappy ice cream cone". Maybe on the first day after lunch and before the muster drill.

Gotta be fast! Alison gathered up our stuff while I claimed the loungers. They are so comfy!

I'm glad you were fast. I'm not fast at anything....yet....but getting there!

If i eat a Lunch/Dinner sausage like a bratwurst or those Nuremberg sausages, then yes i was something to dip it in like mustard. But breakfast sausage to me, needs nothing to dip it in. However some people like to dip their breakfast sausage in maple syrup. 🤢
