The talk about home insurance in CA got me looking at my coverage

Wow, some of these rates are crazy. We pay $1068 a year for three vehicles and two adult drivers. We switched a few years ago to a new company. Rates went up slightly since then, but no crazy increases.

Georgia is one of the most expensive place for auto insurance. Over the past 5 years my rates had slowly increased to what they were.

With Horace Mann I was paying $602 a month for 4 cars, with higher than normal coverage because of the umbrella policy requirements. The same coverage is $292 a month from Progressive.
I pay $12,000 for 4 cars with geico, NJ has high rates too (only 2 have collision). I did save a lot of money switching homeowners, and then switched back and saved even more.

Teen drivers til 25 kill your rates...when I added my 1st, my rate more than doubled...then I added a 2nd...

I might look but very few companies will write new policies in California these days.

My current company just sent me notification that if I don’t replace my roof they won’t continue not renew my policy. Not an expense I was expecting to have for a few more years.
Is that for Florida?

That is more than most people have!

EDIT to say any less is not enough IMO!
Ask Rudy Giuliani . Net worth, about $10 million, hit with a $146 million judgement (since negotiated down). Not a political statement, just a warning that it isn't what you have, it is about what a court could order you to pay. That is why you need that kind of coverage.

Does it hurt to review your coverage and do some price shopping? No. But not all insurance companies provide the same level of service even if you have e the same coverage. A nasty storm hit my neighborhood in 2019 and did tens of thousands in damage to homes. My insurance company covered all of our losses with no issue, while All State ran people in circles trying to not pay. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Agreed. My car was hit last week by a wild animal while I was traveling at 55 mph. Called insurance company and went to body shop within 2 hours. Next day shop provided an estimate. Spoke with adjustor. Following day claim approved with photos including possibility of hidden damage which they will cover if found. Waiting for parts (will probably be the longest part of this process). 15 years with insurance company. Premiums seem fair considering postings left here...no complaints.

Wasn't the car totaled after a 55 mph crash?

Years ago I hit a deer going 70 and it did not total the car. There is a big difference in the damage caused by hitting an animal compared to another car.
I hit a deer on the Ohio Turnpike one night, I was driving a Dodge minivan and the deer ran off into the woods after hitting my right front bumper and bouncing off the sliding door. that van was like a tank! Certainly not totaled.

it also depends on the animal. I've known 3 people who had car vs. moose accidents. all were totaling of the vehicles and w/1 only by the fact another motorist came by right after and contacted emergency response were there not multiple fatalities.

Depends on the damage. A deer can certainly slide across a hood and smash into a windshield. That's the most dangerous even without direct injury to any occupants. The driver might not be able to see through all the damage. Frontal damage might take out the radiator and cause massive vehicle body damage. I have heard of larger vehicles with relatively minor damage even with a direct contact into the grille.

I've seen the remains of deer that were killed on roadways. Pretty gruesome.

Moose are a lot closer to an immobile object than deer are though. They're pretty darn solid when hit.

I should have been more clear. I was saying deer or smaller. More often the car is not totaled in a collision with a deer or smaller.

I know people who have hit a moose, a horse, and a cow. The vehicles all lost in those collisions. The horse was a side impact at low speed, still totaled the car.

Ouch. So the $8 a dozen eggs are no problem for them.
I honestly don't know what kind of eggs they buy. But they seem like the type to grouch about their $8 eggs when there are perfectly good $4 eggs available. Maybe on my walk, I'll strike up a conversation about eggs and see.
