As penguin afficionados DW and I must see any and all movies involving penguins. We were lured into Happy Feet by all the cute commercials, unaware of the extreme political, anti-religious, anti-establishment, anti-human messages that we would be subjected to (in addition to sexual content beyond that which is necessary for a "kids" movie). So we were slightly leery about Surf's Up...

But not to worry, Surf's Up is very cute, very fun. No politics. No crazy stuff. Just a fun, happy movie with amazing CG visuals, wonderful voice work, and plenty of laughs. DW can't stop raving about how cute the babies are.

All around good fun for all ages. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I saw a commercial for the movie not too long ago (the last commerical break) and I was thinking.... oh no, another movie like Happy Feet. :sad2: So glad to read your positive review of Surf's Up. I might give it a chance :thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing

I had sworn off penquin movies forever after Happy Feet :sad2: but maybe I will give Surf's Up a chance after your review!

I still don't understand how Happy Feet got all the attention it did. I hated it, but even my nieces who pretty much love any semi-cute CG type movie said it was awful, before I even said a word, the 10 year old gave it a 1 out of 10 and the eight year old a negative 1 and even Chicken Little got a 4 and a 5! :rotfl:

I saw it today also thought it might be just lame humor but it is well done.
Its presented like a documentary on a young surfer from antartica trying to live his dream. I won't get to into the plot but it has a good message. I enjoyed it more than Shrek3.

Hmm, I'm thinking I might give Surf's Up a chance. I loved Happy Feet, and I can't stand 2 of the actors in Surf's Up (Shia LaBeouf and Jon Heder) but I suppose as long as I can't actually see them I can convince myself it's someone else lol!

Glad to hear the good reviews because we have plans to see it tomorrow. :thumbsup2

We saw it today- DD and her friend liked it, but I noticed thay were getting pretty antsy after the first 1/2 (not something DD usually does at all), and DD's friend whispered to me, "I wish they'd just finish telling the story!!" a few times. It was OK, but I won't be buying it on DVD.

But, maybe I'm just weird- I really like Happy Feet.

I am hoping to be able to see this. Thanks for the heads up on it! Anything is better than "Happy Feet". ;)

How could it be worse than Happy Feet? I was so bored I didn't even catch all the anti-everything stuff. Maybe we'll try this one.

We saw it yesterday, Belle and her BFF were wiggly but having a good time. Ami sat still through the whole thing and giggled like a loon - at almost three that was pretty dang good!

I thought it was very cute, far better than Happy Feet which I found downright depressing and I'm about as liberal as they come. Surfs Up was just fun though, we liked the music too!

I hjad no problem with the message of Happy Feet but I didn't like it either. I agree that some of the content and songs were a little too "adult" for kids. About 1/2 ewy through I was wondering if it would ever end!

Surf's Up, on the other hand, is soooooo cute!!!! Very kid friendly!! Gorgeous backgrounds!! I wasn't even aware of who did the voices. They were great!! 2:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 LOL!

Well since I thought Happy Feet was one of the worst kids movies I've ever watched (I love kids movies)... I have hope for Surf's Up. HF was so boring, and had terrible music, after the first ten minutes or so it sucked, and all three of my kids got up, and wandered off rather tha n finish it.
Maybe all the HF lovers will hate SU :confused3

My dad sent me this thread, as I am a penguin nut!

I saw HF the day it opened and my best friend and I walked out of the theatre going what the heck did we just watch?! We loved the first half and after the second half we felt bad that we existed ("OMG we're personally killing penguins!" type reaction) It wasn't as bad the second time I watched it, but that was on DVD on a normal size TV screen, so maybe that helped...

I haven't had a chance to go see Surf's Up yet, but am looking forward to it - even more so after your review, so thanks!
