I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but I need to find a clean hotel located right off the interstate in Lake City, Florida. I just need to stop there to sleep for a few hours while driving to Disneyworld. I will have my kids with me, ages 17 and 24, so no little ones but still would like to have somewheres that I feel safe stopping at. I don't mind paying a little extra for the security and cleanliness. I would like to stay somewheres that has easy access on and off the interstate. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? We are leaving Thursday evening when my DD gets home from school. Thank you :)

If you stop 30 minutes earlier in Valdosta, GA, exit 16 has decent hotels. Lake City is an armpit.

However, if you stay right by the interstate, you'll be fine. When we were kids, we always stopped in Lake City on the way down to Central or South Florida.

I currently live at exit 16 in Valdosta, drive to my home in Tampa every weekend and use to stop in Lake City to go through a drive through, except my 20 year old never allows me to. He would rather wait for another exit. Just saying... but hey you can get a hair cut at "Whack-a-doo" for $7.99 7-days a week! It's right next to the McDonalds. :-)

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn in Lake CIty. It was clean...nice room. No complaints from us. It is also directly across the street from Cracker Barrel if you want some breakfast. We would stay again.

I think comparing one as exponentially nicer when talking about Valdosta vs Lake City is funny. They are both drive through Interstate towns. That's about it. The Fairfield Inn in Lake City would serve you fine, so would any comparable hotels in Valdosta.

For most people on this board, I guess both would be a drive through interstate town. Valdosta is both a college town and host to Moody AFB, thus a military community. Valdosta has your small town mall, but Lake City has a Big Lots as their mall anchor store. I think that sums it up. LOL.

We always stay at the Comfort Suites in Lake City. It is clean, nice, friendly staff, and always has good breakfast. The hotel is filled wuth people heading to Disney. Great rates as well.

LaQuinta Inn and Suites in Valdosta is super nice with a great free breakfast.
Check it out.

35 mile further south and you have Best Western Gateway Grand at exit 390 (northern most exit for Gainesville).
Very nice hotel, easy access to I-75 and an absolutely awesome sports bar.
Relatively new place. My mom stays there when she gets a place in town.

I used to work in Lake City.
It's a dump and has a very large KKK presence. :sad2:
As we used to say "50 miles north, 50 years back in time"

use to stop in lake city twice - both times because mother demanded it - oh the third trip (with me driving) - said was not stopping and did not. If she wanted to go those were the terms.

now drive straight to WDW. You are only about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Florida turnpike - disney is about 50 minutes from there- I go us 27 - but think turnpike and 429 is about the same.

florida has rest stops that are now safe - they have guards - you can stop for a 20 minute nap when you need it.

after driving on I 10 for so long you might be surprised how quick I 75 is to Disney. assuming you are going on I 10 first?

you do have a lot futher -- mind is either 533 miles (280/520 then I75) or 582 miles (I10)

you have 709 miles (I-10) or 844 miles (i75) - so 10 or 12 hours vs 8 hours 40 minutes or so

that say would stop in Tallahassee it is mostly a better area. it is my half way point when going I10.

if you go I10 then Valdosta is about 60 miles out of your way up I75 north (so 120 miles there and back) - turnpike is about the same from I10 (if not less)
