SSR Lovers and Owners Part 4

Congress is going to be preferred category and paddock is standard. Assuming you booked standard so a request for congress probably won’t be honored. You can request the paddock area but closest to congress (6501-6836 buildings). We were in that building and I think it was closer to the congress park bus than the paddock bus, not a bad walk to DS

I requested to be near the pool and put in a Paddock request with room numbers through Touring Plans. However, our DD is older now and has just asked to be closer to DS, which would be Congress Park. She previously loved the Paddock slide, and I liked being near their food court; however, we have a number of meals arranged at DS and we love to shop there. We arrive Tuesday. What is the best way to change this request? Should I just ask at the front desk when we arrive? I wouldn't mind being close to the Congress park pool either. However, we are fine with walking so I would be happy with Paddock, too. Thank you!
I agree with above...if you have standard booked I wouldn't change anything. Remember you can get on any bus pulling up to the paddock stop and then get off at the next one at congress park.

Hi all! I booked a room for my college-aged son and his friends. There are 5 of them in total and they will be in a 1-bedroom standard view.

I was going to put a request on their reservation for the Paddock section. (To be a little closer to Disney Springs). Or do you think Grandstand is better for overall bus convenience?

Also, I assume that all 1-bedroom units have the exact same sleeping arrangement for the 5th person? They have one smaller friend that has agreed to sleep on the pull down twin sleeper. Just making sure that none of the rooms have a twin sleeper chair or anything like that that would be more comfortable for the 5th adult.

In addition to being first stop for buses heading to parks, Grandstand is closer to the boat dock at the Carriage House. And depending on which Paddock building they might be in, Grandstand could be an equal walk to DS.

See map here: https://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/SSMap.pdf.

And as far as I know, none of the SSR 1BR have sleeper chairs. The living rooms are too small, especially with the queen Murphy.

I have a preferred studio reserved, I know the 2 are the last bus stops. If I request Springs, what area is the closest walk to Grandstand or Paddock bus stations?

If they want to be near DS I’d request Paddock. The walk even from the middle part of the section isn’t bad and buses are great to the parks. I like being the middle bus stop. You could request the building in Paddock closest to Congress Park if DS is really important.

The only 1BRs with alternative arrangements are the Handicapped Accessible ones, and they have less sleeping surfaces, not more.

Thank you to all of you!! In all our trips to WDW we’ve never stayed at Saratoga. Your help is much appreciated!!

See map linked in post #244 above - building 4101 in Springs looks to me like it might be more or less equally close to the Grandstand bus stop and the Carousel bus stop, which is the second on the route to the parks and is actually directly in front of Paddock building 4501. The Paddock bus stop, third on the route, would be about the same walk across the bridge behind the Springs.

I booked a last min 2 bedroom standard and trying to see where the best to request to be close to something and not so far from anything. Any tips appreciated. Its been about 15 years since we have been back. Also can you request like upgraded preferred area? Just curious.

Standard and Preferred are booking categories based on SSR neighborhood. Standard is Grandstand, Carousel, and Paddock. Many guests like Grandstand due to being close to the main Carriage House as well as first bus stop on the way to parks. Others like Paddock because of its feature pool and snack bar. Since Preferred is a booking category, you can’t request it if you’ve booked Standard.

Excited to find this forum. We just became DVC members at the beginning of the year and SSR is our home resort. Haven't stayed there before but can't wait for the first time.

Using points at Grand Cal in Sept but hope to get there early next year. Can't wait to read thru this forum.

You'll love it! I stayed there for the first time a few weeks ago and I'm hooked.

Welcome neighbor! I hope you end up liking SSR as much as we do.

We're going to be staying at SSR in about 3 weeks time! (preferred room) Hope it's not too late to put in a room request? (though I didnt see any room in MDE to put in a request anymore?)

Been reading this and other SSR threads, and it seems like Congress Park is what everyone seems to pick. However, if we're going with a child (7 year old), is Congress Park the best option? Like all the other comments I like the more quiet/relaxed environment and the walking distance to DS.

However, there's no refill station or quick service option at Congress Park right? How long is the walk (each way) from Congress to the main building? And there's no slide in the Congress Park pool?

Would the Springs be the better pick (generally) for families with small children? And how busy/noisy would it be relative to other resorts? (we've been at the Contemporary and last year at WL).

Not too concerned about the bus situation since we normally uber/lyft in the mornings.

We have enjoyed stays at both locations for the reasons you outlined. My opinion is that the convenience of The Springs is great for a family. Easy access the Paddocks pool and High Rock Springs, the food options, etc. The views at Congress Park CAN be amazing or just average. Proximity to Disney Springs is great, but only if you're shopping and dining there.

Both are great choices, but ultimately it is a personal preference.

I would request congress park. Remember you can jump on any park bus and the next stop is the main springs area. So never far away.
