It's been 5 years since the start of the Covid pandemic. There have been a lot of songs written during/about it. I wondered if people here had any favorites. (Hopefully this won't need to be moved to the controversial section...)

Here's the first one I thought of. I'll be back to post a few more.

Ben Folds - 2020

Lyrics:

New Year's Eve, don't it seem
Like decades ago?
Back in 2019
Back when life was slow

Now it's June, we're just halfway done
2020, hey are we having fun?
How many years will we try
To cram into one?

You thought we'd be living 1918 again
But we messed that up so bad
God had to toss 1930 in

As the sun rose on 1968 this morning
A tweet from the john
Please let's not add the Civil War
How many years will we cram into one?

Oh boy
How much more will she take?
Boys, hope you enjoy
Your beautiful tax break

We're not repeating history, just the parts that sucked
2020, what the actual ****?
Pray we get through, but hey don't hold your breath
'Cause there's plenty left to wreck

We got six months left
How many years
How many years will we try
How many years will we try
To cram into one?

This one is from Steven Page (from the Bare Naked Ladies.) It's upbeat and fun even with the covid-related content.

Steven Page - Zoom

Lyrics:

I'm not the type to fetishize technology
But look at me
Obsessing over settings
So I'm getting better
audio quality
Cross my fingers and
Hope the internet
Doesn't fail me I
Hope I don't forget
To record this and
Hope the order of
Songs is decent and
Doesn't bore you

The platform as a conduit makes things intimate
And I'm into it
You see the deal
is it makes you feel
Like it's almost real
And that's how they want it
It's a proven fact
All this eye contact
Isn't natural
But it's what lack
Though it represents
All that I resent
I concede this one
To The One Percent

Zoom
Zoom
Now is fooling whom
We make the best of what we've got
We make a friend
I'll Zoom
Zoom
Into your living room
And try not to focus on when this all ends

I've seen the seder and the Shiva house
I've seen your kids and I've seen your spouse
The high school graduations
Cancellations
of everything meaningful
But despite it all
We decided all
Up against a wall
No immunity
Just community
Everyone's here for their
Saturday afternoon

Zoom
Zoom
Now who is fooling whom
We make the best of what we've got
We make a friend
I'll Zoom
Zoom
Into your living room
And try not to focus on when this all ends
And when it lets me down it's in such mammoth
ways
I won't miss the racist chat spam from those early
days

Zoom
Zoom
Now who is fooling whom
We make the best of what we've got
We make a friend
I'll Zoom
Zoom
Into your living room
And try not to focus on when this all ends

Dizzy
I′m so Dizzy my head is spinning
Covid 19 is making it spin
And this quarantine when will it end
It's making me dizzy
First they said don′t wear a mask
This virus will just work
Its way right through
Now they tell us that was wrong
Wearing a mask
Is what we all must do
Yes they have us all so scared
Looks like we were unprepared
For a virus
Much more deadly than the flu
Dizzy
I'm so Dizzy my head is spinning
Covid 19 is making it spin
And this quarantine when will it end
It's making me dizzy
Sheltering in place
Is another thing
The experts recommend
I never used to drink
But now Jack Daniels has
Become my new best friend
It helps to free me from the stress
But it won′t solve this covid mess
No it ain′t the cure I recommend
Dizzy
I'm so Dizzy my head is spinning
Like a tornado I′m caught in the wind
Only a vaccine will make it all end
It's making me
Dizzy
My head is spinning
Covid 19 is making it spin
Only a vaccine will make it all end
It′s making me Dizzy
I'm so Dizzy
It′s making me Dizzy
I'm so Dizzy
It's making me Dizzy

This video isn't about COVID, but definitely about coming back from that time. Like other businesses, the Broadway shows had to shut down. They were all told it would be for only a few weeks. . . then that went to a few months. . . then several months, etc.

At about the 1-1/4 year mark, the shows were given the green light to re-open - with stringent protocols to keep the cast, crew & audience safe. ONE show, a new show opened: Bruce Springsteen's one man show. No cast, minimal stage crew to infect each other. Bruce actually kept Broadway open for a while single-handedly.

Then, at about the 1-1/2 year mark other shows with larger casts finally took the risk and started coming back.

This is the first rehearsal of The Lion King cast FINALLY reassembled in the lobby of the Minskoff Theatre. Director Julie Taymor is speaking to the cast at the beginning. Tshidi Manye, from So. Africa, has starred as Rafiki on & off (to do other projects) since 1997.

Have tissues ready. I cry every time I see this.

Tshidi shows while performing, it was a loooong, slow road back. But, the show clawed their way back. As the saying goes, "The show MUST go on." It is after all, part of the Circle of Life. :rolleyes1 :grouphug:

just heard one on the most recent episode of 'mythic quest', not in good taste (gaming company leader looking back longingly to the covid days of higher financial revenue and celebrating an influx of cash)-'covid days are here again' to the tune of of 'happy days are here again'.

😂 I absolutely love Mythic Quest.

Here's To the Nights--Ringo

Here's to falling on your face
Getting back up and winning the race
Here's to taking it to extremes
Never losing faith in our crazy dreams

Here's to having no fear
Here's to right now, right here

Here's to the nights we won't remember
With the friends we won't forget
May we think of them forever
As the days that were the best
May we make some noise together
Make a beautiful mess
And say we did it all

Here's to reaching for the stars
Hanging out in castles or hanging in the yard
Here's to leaving no foolish deed undone
Moving to the beat of our own crazy drum

Here's to living our lives
Here's to right here, right now

Here's to the nights we won't remember
With the friends we won't forget
May we think of them forever
As the days that were the best
May we make some noise together
Make a beautiful mess
And say we did it all
We did it all

Here's to making memories, making mistakes
Taking all the rules and making them break
Here's to us being crazy fools
Here's to me, here's to you

Here's to the nights we won't remember
With the friends we won't forget
May we think of them forever
As the days that were the best
May we make some noise together
Make a beautiful mess
And say we did it all
Say we did it all

Yeah, we won't forget 'em, said

Here's to the nights we won't remember
With the friends we won't forget (here's to the nights)
May we think of them forever
As the days that were the best
May we make some noise together
Make a beautiful mess
And say we did it all
Yeah, we did it all
We did it all
We did it all
