Something About Nothing............ #14

Just another cold day where I am.
Did go out for a few hours for a hair appointment that was set up few months back.

The only highlight of my day.

If anyone is hungry, it’s pork chops for dinner.
Come on over!

Just home and popping on before we go to bed, sorry to miss pork chops!

Love a salon appointment, hope you’re happy with the end result, did you go shorter? I have my hair appointment next Wednesday, high/low lights and lovely conditioning treatment and cut and styled of course. Pampering is always nice.

Went out with some friends tonight to the local pub…….all six of us are doing dry January, so non alcoholic drinks all round 🧋 the bar owners will be glad when Feb comes around lol….

Seems a little milder now, still cold but not freezing.

Looking forward to me and my mate J going salsa dancing again tomorrow night, we were sorry we missed it last week.

Yep, cup of tea then bed soon!

Ah, soon enough, it’s that mid day week day. And who do I see?

IMG_4083.jpeg

If a day, to smile, it’s this one. Where, we get over this hump a day feeling day, and Friday is then only a day away. Woot! Last week of January that ends as the first day of February.

Lovingly cold month coming up. Including that loving weekend that ends with the bonus Monday. Yep, and it’s the last federal holiday, until the next start of the run of holidays at the end of May. But as February is our shortest month, it should fly by as fast or faster than January which has felt gone by so fast.

Ah, yes car, could still be a little icy with the snowy and icy still leftovers from our last Monday cold snow dump. And the yesterday and today, that biting wind gave a chill, but hey, at least just above freezing on my predawn commutes. And glorious sunshine again today. Should melt some more of that snowy leftovers, before refreezing in the overnight.

And so a wish to all, Wonderful Wednesday today. Yes, 29 day of this month. Woot!

Bet you had fun salsa dancing!

Can’t remember last time the mister and I danced.
Think it probably was when our last son married.

Well, we go tonight, it`s on every Wednesday, we missed last week as I had flu and J had hurt her foot too, so she`s hoping it`s going to work ok for her lol....might be interesting, but she can only see how it goes.

Yes, we love dancing as a couple too, I can`t remember the last time we went out dancing just for the sake of dancing!!! I think we need to do something about that and organise some friends and us go out for a dressy up night like that. It`s so much fun!!!

Another busy day, popping in and out of the house, had to go pick up an order from one of our butchers and farm store, we popped back in on Edgar who is getting better but his wife who is a lot younger than him is not doing so good, but hopefully she`ll be on the mend soon too. He was having more cornbread in creamy milk again this morning, so funny to see.

Lunch was on the run, we grabbed a sandwich from the local bakers and then drove half an hour to drop off a birthday gift to one of our friends, a day late but better late than never!! She did ask how my sister`s birthday went and I think as well as can be expected, she had a lovely time with her daughter which is nice.

Doing brown sugar chicken with spice tonight for dinner, those added hot chilli flakes overlap the sweetness of the seasoning, nice, doing sweet potato wedges and usual veg. I`m glad we both like as much spice as we do!!!

But, busy rest of the week too and Saturday is Feb 1st!!! How the heck did that happen, but then I have been saying since my son`s birthday, this month is flying past!!!! January is usually the slowest, longest, dreariest month ever, but this one has been surprisingly ok!!! And dry January has been as easy as pie!

Pot of tea is brewing right now, I believe we have some fresh scones, I took some to Edgar, but kept back four for us, might have one toasted with butter now, Tom won`t say no to that I know!!!

But, happy Wednesday all round!!!!

Robo, bet home smelling good with cookies being made. DH is doing okay. I am getting him to walk more, though with that wheelie walker. He’s hoping to only use a cane, but I don’t think even close to doing that yet. Doctors say maybe walking without help some day. Not sure it will ever happen, but our home is now handicap accessible, and probably will stay that way no matter what happens in the future. Have fun with little J. And sweet, a Valentine for him. Maybe we’ll cross paths if you are around potter that week before.
Glad to hear your DH is progressing even small incremental achievements are reason to celebrate. The fact that he is setting a goal for himself to only be using a cane to ambulate is good.

Thank you Robbie, we enjoy extending celebrations where we can!! And thank you, mum is doing amazingly well and we got nothing but good news about her this week, so we are over the moon, time for us all to start planning her 90th birthday party in March!!
Always so good to celebrate our loved ones.

So good to hear your mom is doing well.

WOW……sounds like a monumental birthday party for sure. Have fun helping to plan it.

Have a safe journey down to the sunshine and continued good wishes for you Daughter in law next week.
Thanks you Carole we had a pretty good trip down.

Yep, early morning shopping is the best! Beat those crowds....

Have fun with the little guy later, and enjoy that warmth when you get there!!!
Yes, I like going early in the morning.

I had a wonderful time with little J. He is such a sweet little fella.

Well this week I was glad I had the flu shot, I came down with flu beginning of the week, one minute I was fine, next I was shivering and ached like I had been hit by a baseball bat. Got better for about 20 minutes then it hit again, but I think without the flu shot it would have been so much worse.
Sorry to hear you got sick Carole. Sounds like your loving male Nurse took good care of you.

There has been a lot of FLU A going around.

His Grandmother lived a very full life, and died at 103!!!! Up until September when she fell - even though through some miracle she never broke anything, she was living on her own in a seniors facility. She never really recovered enough to move back into her little space - and soon after required full-time care, which she HATED. It was her time finally. She was our last connection to dh's late Mom. - so it hit us just a little harder than the others. We have no more matriarch :sad1:
Pumpkin sorry to hear your hubby’s grandma passed. She sounded like a very independent lady. It’s hard to let our loved ones go no matter what the age is. My condolences to you all.

I’m now consulting the other major health group here. Was established with them as patient from eye doctor so eligible for their speedy 2nd opinion program. Really a good idea, otherwise can take months to get into seeing a doctor, let alone a specialist. See two different sorts Tuesday & Wednesday (then we leave later that day for FLA, priorities lol)
Janet I hope you are able to gather the needed information you need to make an informed choice on the suggested Major surgery. Never hurts to have a second opinion. Sending prayers your way.

Well, it started up again two days ago…same eye/side of face. Used the cream 2 X and almost gone again - hooray. Assume I used something that is an allergen or wore clothing washed in potentially offending detergent. As Winnie the Pooh would say “oh, bother”.
I hope you are able to get the swelling down and find out what the offensive agent is that is causing it.

Somebody was not amused at 9 am after his bath
WOW….the before and after does not look like the same dog. From wet to white and fluffy.

It's Monday, and what a beautiful Monday it is!!!! After 5 days of No Water due to our well pump dying, we now have water. No more lugging jugs of water every day and not being able to use much of it at a time. We had to go out to the relatives to take showers, do laundry, etc. It was a pain in the behind. You never think about how precious having water at the tip of your fingers is until you don't have it. I have been luxuriating with showers and clothes washing today:) Life is good. At least it wasn't -30 outside while Roger worked on the well house. He is a do it yourselfer and wouldn't want anyone else to work on it. It took him a while but all is well. He is able to do a lot around a house, electricity, plumbing, building anything, etc. He has built custom houses before and loves to do those things, (but maybe not so much plumbing, LOL).
What an ordeal. Glad to hear you have your water back.

You are right it really hits home what a terrible inconvenience it is not to have something at our fingertips such as our easy access to water.

On top of that, Mom had a very swollen, red, painful thumb during all of this. After lab work, xrays, and exam it was determined that she had gout in her thumb!!! I have never heard of gout anywhere other than the toes. It is very strange, but with medication she is now better.
I have heard that gout is very painful. You are right it usually affects the great toe.

Good to hear she is feeling better.

Started off just dandy with a panic attack @ 5am. They are mostly due to a combo of low oxygen from covid, high adrenaline from adrenal imbalance and 50 years of extreme sports and PTSD. When they intersect, it's no fun but meds beat it back eventually.
Thats is a lot to go through…….I hope you are feeling better. You sound like a trooper.

Good morning to all the homies!
Good morning Mac

Went to give blood this morning, and no issues this time, donated and left all within a decent time. Then we went to visit Edgar, he is a lovely man who originally came from Louisiana/South Carolina and has lived here for a few years with his English wife.

He hasn`t been well, so popped in to say hello and marvelled at him drinking a very creamy milk with chopped up cornbread in it!!!! Says it works wonders, I`ll take his word, I love cornbread and milk, but not in the same glass!! He did look better after it. Left them a large lasagne and some scones I baked, his wife isn`t too good either so hopefully it`ll do them twice to save cooking.

Cornbread and milk is a very Southern thing. My dad likes to chop up cornbread in buttermilk and eat it.

Very nice of you to take your friends some food. I’am sure they appreciated your kindness. I hope their health improves.

Janet have a safe trip down to Orlando. You hit the lottery. It is supposed to be beautiful in the upper 70’s during the week to low 80’s on Friday. Cooler in the evening down to low 60’s. Enjoy.

Had a wanderful time with little J on Thursday. We went to the Mall play area and he had a good time. He rode the Carosel and the toy helicopter and of course we had a pretzel and some fruit. He did get another vehicle he liked and was very happy about that. I treasure the time I have with him. He reminds this old grandma what is special about life looking at it through his amazed eyes.

I packed up the last of the needed things on Friday night and loaded the back of the SUV as we were leaving early in the morning.

We traveled South on Saturday. Had a pretty good trip. We over nighted in Tifton Georgia on the way. I fell on some ice in of all places the Handicap spot at the hotel. I had let hubby off at the door and I parked after getting our bags out. Got him settled in the room and went and parked the SUV. Came out later and got his briefcase out and fell on black ice.

Bruised up a bit on right arm and right leg as I tried to right myself before I fell forward. Also have a lot of muscle soreness, but no worse for wear.

Told the lady at the desk in the morning that I had fallen last night and to have their maintenance person put some salt on the area as someone could easily break something with a fall there. She said they did not have salt as they never usually get that cold there. I told her how about a shovel. They can break up the black ice and scoop it away that would help. She told me she would look into it.

We got back on the road Sunday morning and it was nice and sunny. It was funny to see the Welcome to Florida sign on I 75 with a small amount of snow at the bottom of the sign.

It got warmer the farther South we went.

Had a nice welcome home on Monday afternoon with a look at a Falcon 9 going up in the sky from my back yard. My fellow Rocket Sista’s came over and we watched it go up together.

It is nice to be back in the Florida sunshine. We are going to be in 70’s then hitting 80 on Friday.

Just heard from our son. Daughter in law just got out of surgery about a half hour ago. She did well, but the Orthopaedic Surgeon had to do a little more work on her knee then he thought at first.

Daughter in law starts therapy tomorrow. They don’t mess around in getting you to therapy very soon after surgery.

Granddaughter is still recovering nicely from her surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago.

I love my girls with all my heart and I’am so glad they have both come through with their surgeries.

Off to complete a couple of tasks I have on my list this morning.

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone.

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone.

Glad you made it home safely although sorry you had a fall on the ice, you can do some serious injuries to yourself before you even land!!

Yes, I`ve since learned cornbread in buttermilk is a classic southern dish, I had no idea, but he was enjoying it!! I always enjoy learning about regional dishes from people, some are indeed very unique. Yes, they appreciated the food, many of us are making sure they are ok, they are such a lovely couple that are a wonderful addition to our little village.

Thank you mum is doing amazingly well and she is also excited for her 90th party!!! We already have our hotel booked and kyle made sure he had a vacation day in for the Monday so he can be there too. Yes, we`ll make sure she has a blast.

Glad your daughter in law is doing well, yes they do get them up on their feet quickly which is a good thing. After Kyle had his back surgery, next morning they had him going up and down stairs before they considered getting him home, best thing. But continued good wishes for her and a quick recovery would be nice too.

Enjoy that sunshine too :)

Dinner over early as I`m heading out later and don`t want to be full, my friend J is picking me up tonight and then we can boogie away for 90 minutes!!! We both said that`s enough for a session as you don`t really stop for that time, except to stop for some water but we both wish it was on twice a week.

Then home for a shower, jammies on, cup of tea and some tv.

And another busy day tomorrow, doing a little bit to help another friend with a party on Saturday night for mutual friends who are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, they were both 19 when they got married to many shots of it`ll never last lol.....and they have celebrated every single anniversary since with aplomb. I think they have around 150-180 people coming, it should be a very good celebration in our local golf club.

But, cooking and baking is a priority for the next three days, around 10 of us are doing the catering (I use that term loosely) lots of snack foods and lots of desserts as they are real dessert people. I`ll stick to creating some savoury offerings!!

Quick cuppa before head out :)

Oh Robo. Scary, is black ice. So sorry to hear you fell. I hope your soreness and bruising goes away fast. Good to hear you arrived there, and with a rocket view on your way. Great pictures you shared.

Hoping the next two weeks are much much warmer. Just saying.

Hehe, kids asked me when I get my hair done. Um, did it two weeks ago. The lady that does it, they both like, so gave them her schedule. Guess both or one wants hair done sooner than later.

Day is crawling by. Got errands to do when I get outta the city. Birds have really done a great poop job on my windows. Way too many white stripes down both big windows. Sigh. Thinking maybe retiring 3 or 2 years earlier than I’ve been planning. After close to 40 years driving into the city, it is not as fun anymore. That, and the shootings right outside my building are more common now.

But hey, another day with sunshine and fluffy white clouds, and above freezing temperatures, I’ll take it. Friday has the best chance to see some rain. Take that too, rather than more snow. ⛄

Robbie I hope your dil does great and has a complete healing of her knee.

I have had that surgery and hope she heals completely and is pain free as much as possible.

Sending good wishes for her and hope it goes smoothly for her.

If I am not mistaken, believe you had knee surgeries before.

Wasn’t it two surgeries you had?

I do adore those pictures you shared with us

I am waiting to have sunshine and lollipops when our temperatures start to rise more.
Its not bad here but it sure isn’t close to the warm temperatures in Florida.

My Mr Mac was dragging yesterday and wasn’t himself.
He was fine with a light dinner last night and thought he was just overly tired.

He got up this morning but slow moving.
Talked him into going back to bed but checking on him and he is still alive.

Told him stay in bed all he wants to. Will see if sleep and otc has helped him.

I fail big time in being his nurse.
I give him water, liquid beverages and check on him once an hour.

Other than that, I stay far away from him so he doesn’t pass his bug to me.

Lynne with you driving the past years to work, retire asap….

The day is coming to just enjoy life and be permanently be on vacation.

Money grows on trees so don’t worry about bills, food, and car repairs…..

Quick stop in....hopefully I get it posted before my work network kicks me off again. Things have been super wonky lately :sad2:

Work has been busy. Manager is away on vacation for 2 weeks - which is nice as her manic decisions lately have many of wondering WTH is going on. We are just doing our regular old routines and the days are flowing nicely again - without her trying to paddle upstream and change the work flow.

Weather is currently mild - but will be going into the low -30's for a couple weeks again :cold: Mother Nature can't seem to make up her mind what the weather should be.

We have been so busy all month. We thought with the kids moving closer - that we would have more free time on weekends. That hasn't happened. I can't believe we are at the end of January already. We will see how Feb plan out.

I've been trying to get myself back to the gym in the evenings. Sometimes I make it, others I don't. I'm hoping I can get there tonight again.

I do get to pick up gd from daycare and have her come over until her dad is done work. Dd has to work in the office again the rest of this week and part of next week. So it's Grammie to help! Her snack box in the pantry is stocked. Chocolate milk and her favorite yogurt drink thingys are in the fridge. So I'm all set for her to come visit for a bit again.

I’m now consulting the other major health group here.
I hope you find the provider you feel comfortable with and the options you want.

I hope you enjoy your time in Florida!!!! I will say - I'm quite envious as both dh and I are saying we need to book a get away again. Somewhere humid and warm where our bodies won't hurt for a bit.
On top of that, Mom had a very swollen, red, painful thumb during all of this. After lab work, xrays, and exam it was determined that she had gout in her thumb!!! I have never heard of gout anywhere other than the toes.
My fil just found out the same thing about one of his fingers too!!!!!! So now he is changing his diet and bit to see if that will help.
Looking forward to me and my mate J going salsa dancing again tomorrow night, we were sorry we missed it last week.
That sounds like a BLAST!!!!! Have fun!
My fellow Rocket Sista’s came over and we watched it go up together.
It is great your family is recovering from their surgeries. I hope you didn't hurt yourself with your fall. It is soooooo easy to do.
My Mr Mac was dragging yesterday and wasn’t himself.
I hope Mr. Mac gets better soon. I have heard that the flu and norovirus that is going around is particularly nasty this year :sad1:

Well, off to get a few more things done this afternoon.

Have a great day everyone!

Pumpkin, you had a very busy day!

I really hope your cold weather will not last long.

Been a long day for me and did not start to fix dinner until 6 this evening.

Time got away for the mr and me.
Didn’t get the kitchen cleaned up until 7 this evening.

Ah, nothing like seeing deer run in front of you as you speed along, in the neighborhood right before I turn into the main road into the city. Enough excitement for me today.

Well, off to get a few more things done this afternoon.

Have a great day everyone!

Nice to see you Pumpkin!! I`m glad someone else thinks January has flown past, it really has!!!

Hope you get to the gym again, it`s tough to make it at night after you`ve been working during the day, that is commitment!!!

Hope your weather isn`t as bad as forecast, it`s not fun I think everyone is ready for spring to arrive this year.

Oh the salsa/dance class is a blast!! We laugh a lot, mainly at our lack of coordination, but no one is perfect there which is nice, it`s all about the fun. I do ache this morning!!

Hope you have a great week and it`s lovely you get to enjoy having your little GD so much now.

Yep, last night was fast paced and I have the aches this morning to prove it! But, so much fun.

It is cold but blistering sunshine which is lovely having it stream into the house while I cook and bake. At the minute I`m doing quiche`s, 15 in all but might do a couple more, just in case. Tomorrow and Saturday morning will be fresh appetiser type dishes, but sounds like everyone is on track, we have a group whatsapp and some of the comments and pictures are funny!

So, that`s my day, in the kitchen, music on full pelt and hopefully having everything turn out just fine.

Haven`t organised dinner tonight so Tom said he`ll go get fish and chips from the chippie in the next village to us, they have the best chips around. Not the healthiest dish, but now and again it`s a nice treat.

Back to the quiches again, then on to the next dishes, but I do have my husband helping by making me tea throughout the day which is nice!!

Have a lovely Thursday :)
