I filled out SSA from 1724 on 9/30. It's a form you fill out to request any social security or medicare refund that was due to your deceased loved one. My dad passed on 9/10 and is owed one social security check, since he lived the entire month of August. If you have completed this form, how long did it take to hear something? I have a sibling that needs assistance and these funds would help a great deal. Thank you.

did your dad not receive a direct deposit in September? if not and you are eligible to be the recipient it looks like (from a quick Google search) that people are experiencing up to 120 days wait time :(

He did not receive his direct deposit in September. He passed on 9/10 and was supposed to get his deposit on 9/18. It was stopped before it could be deposited. Looks like I will prepare to wait. They told me 60 days when I filed the form so I was just beginning to get curious. Thank you for your response.

When one of my parents passed away a few years ago, I called SS to let them know. They were on direct deposit so there wasn't any form I needed to fill out. Maybe something has changed recently, but I seem to recall they automatically handled everything without any other forms or information needed.

My sister handled that but my mom died Sept 2018 and we received her last benefit April 2019.

Same with my husbands when he passed. The funeral home notified SS and they took care of everything from there. I didn't have to fill out any forms or do anything else.

But was that just to notify them of the passing or to submit for the last check they were owed?

When Marie's uncle passed 2 years ago, whom we were caregivers for and she is power of attorney, we did have to file for his last SS month to be paid to the estate. We waited several months, noting on its own. We completed and sent in the form, a few more months for payment.
