slo’s THURSDAY 4/24 poll - Reusable Snack/Sandwich Bags

Reusable things are becoming more & more popular all the time as we become more conscientious of our environment. One of those reusable items are sandwich/snack bags. Using these are a great way to help alleviate the amount of plastic going into our landfills every day. The bags in the picture below can be found on Amazon. What are your thoughts on these - let us know…….

Do you use reusable silicone sandwich/snack bags?
If yes……how often?
If no…….do you think you will one day?

For Me…….. I do not use these and I’m considering switching over to them. I use a lot of plastic bags every week for my husband’s lunches and using these would be better for the environment and for my pocketbook. It would be a pain in the butt to have to wash them all the time though, which is the downfall of them. I’m thinking about buying some and giving them a try

I haven’t tried those yet. Overall I don’t really use a lot of plastic bags. And I do reuse/rinse even some of those, ones that were used for clean purposes, like putting a whole package of something in it to help protect it.

I picked no. But I don't use single use plastic bags either - at least not on a regular basis. We use small tupperware containers. Fruits, veggies, hummus, sandwich, crackers, cookies, all of it goes in tupperware. And then those can go in the dishwasher, and dry out better than those bags would. Plus they won't allow things like sandwich to get smushed or crackers to get crushed as could happen in a bag.

The single use plastic bags I'll occasionally use are almost all for freezing things like chili or soups. I'll also use one when traveling with things like sunscreen, so it doesn't end up all over my clothes.

I was given a set. They are a lot bulkier and clunkier than the disposable ones. But we do use them. We also re-use disposable bags if they are used for something clean. Like my hubby has been using the same bag for his sandwiches for weeks.

I use storage containers, mostly. We have a collection of "smalls" for snacks, lunch "sides," and some sandwich sized containers. I really don't like the idea of washing used bags. About the only plastic bags we re-use is if a whole container of something already wrapped were in the bag. For example, I'll take the entire bag of cheetos out of the box and put it in a zip lock, to keep it fresher. I'll reuse that ziplock on another bag of crackers or cookies, etc.

Nope, not interested. I do try to use Rubbermaid containers for lunches instead of plastic bags.

I have not seen those before.... they look like something I would be interested in trying though. For something clean, or to put ice in or something, looks like a good idea.

I use them occasionally. I got a couple last year at a vendor show I went to. I just don’t find myself using sandwich bags that often in general.

We don't pack lunches on a daily basis. At home, we use tupperware. During big family dinner time (like Easter) I'll save any cool whip type containers to send leftovers with people. I will use plastic bags to send with grandkids with snacks as they go out the door and won't see them for days/weeks.

Like Leebee, I open box of cereal and slip bag inside ziplock bag, later reuse that bag again for same purpose. Same with bread that DD makes for us. We get several loaves at once. Wrap them and put in freezer, one goes into ziplock bag and that bag is used several times over.

I have a big set of them. I don't really like them. They are hard to close and keep closed, the more one is used the harder it is. It is bulky too.
I do use one when traveling.....I carry it in my backpack with my insulin pen and needles and a couple of disposable toothbrushes.

This is how I feel as well. I bought one (with Mickey Mouse on it, of course!) and used it a couple of times, but just didn't get in the habit. It was hard to position so it dried correctly after washing, and the zipper was just really thick and awkward. I finally put it in the donation box.

I use them often while camping but not much at home. Not sure what the difference is that I use them often in one situation but not the other, but it's something I've noticed about myself.

When I used to take my lunch I used them all the time and I really like them there’s different kinds you gotta shop around but I really like them and I still use them occasionally when I wanna take some food into work I don’t go into work that often so I don’t use them as much as I used to
I use them when I go on vacation for other items I find them very helpful
I have gotten all of mine at target and I got my first set as a Christmas present

Nope - not a chance. Until regular ziplocs are no longer available, I won’t be adding another task to my list by having it wash and store plastic bags. I do pack my lunch most days and usually use plastic wrap for my sandwiches, not bags. I take produce in the same plastic bag I brought it home from the store in.

Where's the "I have them and use them sometimes/as needed" option?

When DH was taking lunches every day, they were used for tortillas/buns and/or small snacks, along with glass containers in his lunch bag. I rarely store things in plastic bags at home... usually stuff goes in glass containers.

I did buy a larger one to make "plastic bag" ice cream, but haven't tried it using the silicone bags yet.

I don’t use that type of bag every day, only occasionally. The ones I use most are the heavier freezer bags. Like others, I sometimes reuse ziplocks that are meant to be single use/disposable.

I wrap sandwiches in aluminum foil. I would use sandwich boxes like those from Sistema, which are very nice, but then I have to worry about getting them back home.

I reuse plastic storage and freezer bags but not sandwich or snack bags. Those are too hard to clean.

My DD bought them and they've been sitting in our lazy Susan for a few months already. She uses bento boxes for her lunch, so I'm not sure why she bought the reusable bags.
