Typically, I decorate the day after Thanksgiving and the tree goes up that weekend. However, this year, I'm going to put the tree up the weekend before and I'll decorate the rest of the house after Thanksgiving. I'm flying to Krakow and Prague that Saturday, so i won't have time to put the tree up that weekend.

The tree and inside decor goes up the middle weekend of December; this year it will be December 14 & 15. The wreath and outside stuff may go up sooner but not until December. The lights will all stay on until Epiphany and everything will come down that next weekend.

:santa: This is our first real Christmas in our new home so I need a new tree and bunch of other touches, and to figure out the placement from scratch. It’s a little daunting and I’ll miss some of my old, beloved favorites that just aren’t going to work here.

We vary. So much hinges on our schedule. If we're busy and traveling a lot before Thanksgiving and in early December, it might be mid December when things finally go up. I think it was 2 years ago when it was a week before Christmas. If Hanukkah is early, I may dig into the decorations early (since both holidays are stored in the same places) and get started, but that's about it. The inside is never before Thanksgiving though. If we buy a fresh tree, we also don't like to do that too early. The couple of times I pushed for one in early December, it was a dry and brittle mess by the 20th.

No tree(s) are put up anymore. I did see some decent artificial ones at Lowes the other day; they were incredibly expensive even if pre-lit.

I was just telling my husband maybe we should just skip all the decorating this year (I only halfway mean it). Just the thought of dragging everything out, setting it all up, all the time that goes into that, shifting the furniture to accommodate the tree, and then taking it all down again. I feel drained just thinking about it.

Honestly I've been suggesting for a couple of years now to travel somewhere during xmas. The kids are older, it's not as exciting to them anymore, none of us need more material stuff, it has no religious significance for us, and other than summer, it's the biggest chunk of time they have off all year. No one is taking me up on that yet though. I would love to go to a resort in Costa Rica and hike waterfalls, see monkeys, eat great food that I didn't have to think about or prepare, and take some ocean kayaking trip.

But anyway, the decor will probably all go up despite my hesitation, the first or 2nd weekend in December.

I have a rule -- no Christmas before Thanksgiving. Usually that means music (a local radio station starts 24-hr Christmas music on 11/15) but goes for decorations as well. I have fall/Thanksgiving decorations up and won't switch to Christmas until after Thanksgiving is done. Usually the creche is the first decoration out, then most of the rest comes out in early Dec. The live tree doesn't go up until within a week of Christmas but we keep it up until Epiphany so well into January. At which point decorations shift to snowmen.

We do much the same, and I agree - Thanksgiving THEN Christmas👍

I'll do some inside decorating the weekend after (of?) Thanksgiving, and we have a large wreath we put up on the front of the house and a few outside lights we put up. Tree goes up 7-10 days before Christmas Day.

To us, Christmas is the next holiday AFTER Thanksgiving. If you have a live tree, they only seem to be good for 2 weeks and tend to dry out after that. With an artificial tree, that is less of a concern. In the years we were planning to travel out of town to either visit relatives or go on vacation for Christmas, it was always an artificial tree. Apparently some people leave their indoor tree lit when not home, but we have never done regardless of whether it was real or artificial.

If you put up outdoor lighting and live in a part of the country that gets snow/ice, it makes sense to do that before the bad weather even if you wait longer to turn them on.

I normally put mine up around Halloween. I have no kids and I don't celebrate Halloween really it was my grandma's birthday and we were really close after she passed it kind of became a thing to put my tree up on halloween as a way of remembering her onher birthday, because i always helped her with her christmas stuff from like the time i was kid (not that early back then) but i have a lot of her christmas things so it's just kind of special.

This year though I put it up on Oct 19, which is the earliest I ever have put it up. Everything was just so mean in the election and stuff, and it was a way to bring some joy to my house. The inside of the house was fully decorated by Halloween, and we did the outside yard lights this past weekend.

When Mickey decorates for Christmas, we decorate!
People are putting up their Christmas trees earlier and earlier every year. At one time, people put up their trees a few weeks before Christmas, and now it’s almost a few months. Where do you fall in the Christmas tree putting up timeline - let us know……

Do you put up a Christmas tree?
If yes….when before Christmas does it get put up?
(multiple choice)

For Me……My Christmas trees are going up earlier and earlier every year. Starting about 15 years ago I started putting up my living room Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving. A few years after that, I decided to put both my living room and family room Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving. I decorate a lot for Christmas, and having the trees done before Thanksgiving makes things less stressful for the weekend after Thanksgiving when I decorate the rest of the house. This year is the earliest I’ve ever put up Christmas tree. - the family room Christmas tree was put up last weekend. This weekend, I will start working on the living room Christmas tree. Each Christmas tree takes me over five hours to put up because I have no lights in them. They were pre-lit originally, but sections of lights started going out, so instead of buying new trees, I decided to cut out all the lights and start putting the lights in every year - it’s a big job. I love the way my trees look when they are done, so putting them up early is very joyful for me, and I get to enjoy them for more than just three or four weeks.

I haven't put up a Christmas tree in a few years. And even when I did last time, it was just for my own eyes and to collect dust. Which I'm bitter about it. As we have to go visit family for Xmas. We've lived out of state for over half of our marriage (including past 7 years) and always have had to go back for Xmas.

Then, even when we lived in state, we still had to go to the 2 sets of grands' houses and have never had our own Xmas really.

Now I am older and our kids are all pushing 30, we still have to go there but...fun times...now I have to do a lot of the work (at my mom's anyway). I am bitter because I was going to our parents in my 20s (and they were 40s-50s) as they hosted (and our elderly grands came to them) and always thought my turn would come to be the matriarch host house. Guess not. So, bah humbug, I say.

We generally put it up the first week of December. I'm going to be out of town that week, so we may put it up just after Thanksgiving. There have been years that we haven't gotten it up until two weeks before. Sometimes it sits a while before we decorate it.

We declared to the entire family in July one year that we weren't traveling for the holidays. Anyone who wanted to visit us, the more the merrier, but we weren't traveling. It allowed us to create our own family traditions. Telling people in the middle of the year helped avoid last-minute drama.

Everything goes up earlier here than I would prefer, but we do like to put up the outside stuff early before the weather gets really cold or snowy, and we are out of state at my parents' for Thanksgiving so I just like to have it all done already when we get back.

Did outside lights last weekend and finished indoor stuff lastnight.

Trees (we do two or three, depending on the year) are usually Thanksgiving weekend, along with all the other Christmas inside decor. Sometimes we do it a day or two before Thanksgiving, if we have the time.

Outdoor lights and decorations are usually earlier, depending on weather, but I don't turn on the lights until after Thanksgiving.

We used to put our tree up the weekend following Thanksgiving, but the older I get the more I want to enjoy it longer so I started putting it up November 1st. And not take it down until March 1st😁. I really don’t care what anyone thinks, driving by and seeing it lit so long after Christmas. My house, my rules. It makes me smile🎄🙂

We get a real tree and usually put it up a couple weeks before Christmas. Take it down around Jan 6, give or take a few days. Outside lights and decorations often go up the weekend after Thanksgiving, hopefully in mild weather.

Ours is already up. We typically wait until Thanksgiving night, or that weekend-but my husband and I agreed we needed a little more joy earlier than usual this year.

I selected other, because although there was a before Thanksgiving choice and an after Thanksgiving choice, we usually put ours up ON Thanksgiving, while the parade is on and the turkey is cooking. That has always been our tradition. When I was a child my dad was in management for a large department store and Thanksgiving was the only day off he could count on until after New Year’s. We have put it up earlier a couple of times, once when my mom was very sick we put it up in early November knowing she probably wouldn’t make it to Thanksgiving (she passed the week before), and once when we celebrated Thanksgiving early because my sister was going to her in-laws for the actual holiday.
