Bananas are such a yummy and healthy add on to a meal or snack. People use bananas in more ways than I have time to write this. Today we are talking about the ripeness of bananas. Did you know that different levels of ripeness have different nutritional values? I found a chart below that shows it. So let’s go bananas today and talk about how you like your bananas….

After looking at the picture below ⬇️, how do you like your bananas? (for eating, not recipes)
What time of day are you most likely to eat a banana?
(Multiple choice)

For Me……. I like my bananas to be barely ripe or ripe. I do not like green underripe bananas, and I will pass on eating them if that’s the only thing there. I will also take a pass on very right bananas, there’s something about him that messes with my gut after I eat them. I have severe ulcerative colitis, and if something seems to upset my gut then I stay far away from it. I normally eat bananas as a snack in the afternoon, but not every afternoon.

I don't eat banana that often, so it's more like "well not to waste them, I'll eat one" DH eats several every week. Not quite one a day. Maybe every other day, but bananas are turning so I'll eat one each day for a few days.

Looks like bananas are not a big Christmas fruit. Went to store yesterday looking for marked down overripe bananas. Found about 8 bags ,each bag has about 5-7 bananas. Never saw that many to choose from. Funny thing, some of these overripe bananas, from the outside you'd think you are going to cut away 1/3 of the banana. You peel it , and it's perfect inside. Making several dozen banana/chocolate chip muffins today. Grandkids coming on Sunday.

When I purchase bananas I want them as green as I can possibly get them and then I will eat them right when they just barely start to turn yellow and once they turn yellow I’m done with them Because I like my bananas firm and just barely turning because once they turn yellow and they start to get soft I don’t want them I will throw them away I like them a little green with just a touch of yellow
I will eat a banana anytime I want one So it could be in the morning it could be in the afternoon it could be in the evening I don’t care As long as it’s where I want it in the stage of ripening I’ll eat it
Now if you cook that into banana bread I’m not gonna eat it can’t stand it
The only thing I will eat made with a banana and again it cannot be a ripe banana is banana pudding I could eat My weight in that ❤️❤️

I'm generally not fond of bananas, but once in a great while, I really want one. (It's strange - maybe it's when I need potassium or something.) Anyway, I voted "barely ripe."

Barely ripe to eat but if they don’t get eaten before very ripe it turns into banana bread.

Kids won’t touch them with spots…lol

What is with bananas nowadays? They ripen so fast! They can go from perfect to spotty in mere hours, it seems. Seriously - does anybody know? :confused3

I like them just ripe enough to get the peel off, while they are still firm and not sweet. I’ll go on jags sometimes where I’ll eat several a day for a week then leave them again for a while. And I only like them raw - I don’t enjoy desserts made with bananas or baked goods. If they get over-ripe at my house they are thrown away.

I prefer over ripe for the best smoothies in the blender nearly every day. If they get too ripe they can be frozen.

They are also a delicious treat where I slice bananas and drizzle with chocolate then lay flat and freeze, they end up having a consistence close to ice cream when I have these.

I'll bring a banana along in the car if I think I'll be out a while and want a snack or if my belly is upset, family members love to snack on them during the day.

I rarely just eat a plain banana though.

Put them in a brown bag to speed ripening.

To slow ripening cover the stem with plastic and keep away from other ripe bananas and produce like tomatoes or pop in the fridge, in the fridge the skin will get brown super quick but this doesn't mean the banana itself is over ripe.

Barely ripe if I'm just eating it for the sake of eating it. It's funny because I prefer the taste of a more ripe banana but the texture gets me. I don't have them around all of the time because I can't eat a full bunch before they overripen. The funny part...I like to bake with them and don't mind them in smoothies, both of which require a ripe to overripe banana. I have a banana cake recipe that the kids really like (gets covered in chocolate ganache frosting- we call it chocolate covered banana cake), but I rarely plan ahead and will have to slow bake bananas to make them artificially ripen and soften for the cake.

I like them when they have brown spots. I don't want even a hint of green on them. I will eat overripe bananas, too, as long as they aren't too mushy.

I keep my bananas far away from all other fruit or vegetables. It seems to help slow the ripening process. :)

I’ve also heard the trick of separating them all from the bunch helps but it still doesn’t explain why they ripen so fast now. I swear bananas weren’t like this 25 years ago.

I eat them underripe. It's a must consume for me several mornings a week as I want to replenish the potassium I lose at my gym's sauna. I rarely eat them in any recipe.
