I do not go to many garage sales myself, but I have had a couple of my own over the past few years. I plan to have another one next month and I am mostly selling baby/toddler clothes and other baby items. For those of you who have bought used baby clothes at garage sales, how much do people usually charge? Our home is a smoke and pet free home, and honestly... our baby DD was blessed with so many gifts of clothes that most of her stuff looks brand new. Our DD is only 15 months old now, but she is wearing 2T, so a lot of the smaller sized clothes that people bought her, she never wore because she was a big baby to begin with. I bet I have at least 8 full garage bags of clothes in our basement to sell and atleast 35-40 pairs of shoes!! The amount of shoes that she had is ridiculous when we hardly ever put shoes on her until she started walking at 13 months!

Last summer I had a garage sale and sold some of her newborn - 9 months clothes. I sold the one piece outfits for .50 and two-piece outfits for $1.00. I made more money on those clothes than anything else. Which makes me wonder if I could have asked for more $$ to begin with. :confused3 I also had all the 2-piece outfits hung up on hangers... which, I don't know... maybe they just looked nicer and sellable that way. I'd do that again this time, but I don't want to lose all my kid size hangers. Would it be too cheap of me to display the 2+ piece outfits on hangers, but take the hangers off when they pay for the clothes? I think as long as I've got a sign posted saying "hangers not for sale" people would understand. Right?

Any other garage sale tips would appreciated. The money I make at this garage sale is going towards our October Disney trip! :cool1: Oh who am I kidding, all money earned seems to end up at WDW some how. :rotfl:

When mine were smaller I loved selling at Yard Sales. The baby stuff sells really good. I think pricing depends on where you are. If you live in an area where people make a good living, you could probably charge a little more. My personal rule of thumb when pricing is to consider what I would pay for the same item. I usually look at brand and wear. The brand name stuff (Tommy, Gap, Old Navy, Nike, etc) I charge more for as long as it's in great condition. The items that are worn or slightly stained I usually put on a separate table, maybe marking that table as "playclothes" and sell them cheaper. You'd be amazed at how many people look for those type clothes (childcare providers, babydoll clothes, etc). Name brand: tops $1 - .75; pants and Jeans $2; 1pc. outfits $1.50 - $1; 2pc outfits $2 - $1.50; Off-brand (WM, Target, etc) tops .75 -.50; pants and Jeans $1 - .75; 1pc outfit $1 - .75; 2pc outfits $1.
Hope that helps, and good luck. Now that my boys are older I usually just sell it on ebay.

I don't honestly think people expect the hangers too at garage sales but a sign wouldn't hurt anything. I went to Roses before my last yard sale and asked for any loose hangers they had, I left with close to 50!! They were the ones the clothes come on when they sell in the store, most people don't take them and the store throws them away anyway. (I'm a hanger snob, I like the thick plastic ones you buy from Wal-Mart for use at home) If I plan a yard sale far enough in advance I save hangers when I shop and ask for extra at the checkout (Kohls is great too).

I buy and sell on ebay and at yard sales. I will generally pay .50 - 1.00 for kids clothing at yard sales. It has to be spectacular for me to pay more.

My kids have very nice clothing. I sell name brand on ebay. non name brand I sell at my yardsale for .50 a piece or 1.00 a set. I have the...let's get rid of it theory. I could charge more, sell less, but I want it all to go! I usually sell most of it at that price.
