Secret Sister gift ideas needed...

I participate in our church's secret sister program. You are suppose to do specials things for your secret sister throughout the year. Not necessarily material things, but special things. Whether it's just taking one day and saying a special prayer for them or buying them a small gift (stuff that a lot of us as busy workers/mothers/leaders etc. don't normally do for ourselves.)

Anyone done this before? Do you have any creative inexpensive gift ideas or any thoughtful ideas that you have done in the past?

Her anniversary is coming up, so I'm working on coming up with something for that.

Could you make dinner for her family and have someone neutral deliver it? Another easy idea would be to send her a thinking of you card in the mail. We all love getting mail that isn't bills. A $5 gift card to starbucks would be nice too! I will keep thinking! Good Luck!

We do this at our church too and one thing I have done for an anniversary is to buy chocolates, a nice candle, and sparkling cider. You could always add a little thing of bubblebath or something. Someone else got a picnic lunch once for their anniversary. I thought that was a cute idea but it only works well if you have nice weather.

Gifts I've given so far this year:
A $10 watch from WalMart. My secret sister is always asking for the time from everyone.
A candle in a Christmas stocking.
I bought some things from various stores after Christmas to stock up. Things like lotion, bubble bath, stationary, candles. Then I'll probably include some candies.
You could give a potted plant.
Send a meal through a neutral party.
Give a gift certificate to a local restaurant, ice cream shop or pizza place.
Give a gift certificate to a local book store.

I've done secret sister at our church before too and my secret sister gave me my favorite Bible verse in a frame. I really liked that. I've given bath and body items (hope you stocked up at their recent sale), small purse, holiday items, (depending on the season). You could print up the free coupon from lowe's and give her a house plant. Can't beat the price. We always fill out a questionaire saying our favorites in different catagories and it helps when your trying to buy a gift.

If you know her email address, you can send her special web sites. I have done this for several years with secret pal clubs (at our church we call them secret angels). Just sign up for a yahoo email address (or hotmail, or whatever else you have access to) and make up a name. For my secret e/address I use "our church initials + secretangel@yahoo.com" For my name when I sign up I put Secret Angel.
There are oodles of interesting Christian websites and an internet search would provide any interest she could possibly have. I have sent Christian jokes, interesting daily devotions, and even imbedded pics of her kids in our Christmas pageant, and also neat sites like a website with the satellite image of her house, or this one.....

I don't send forwards, and I don't jam her inbox. I send something every Friday.

BTW...I really like the framed scripture verse that someone else mentioned!

I came up with a "Chick Flick Kit" for a Christmas exchange at our church.

I included a DVD of one of my favorite movies (but you could include a movie rental), a cozy pair of socks (Karen Neuberger from Costco), chocolate bar, hot chocolate mix.
Wrapped them in a celephane gift bag and typed a tag on the computer that went like this:

A pair of cozy socks to warm your toes
Chocolate to warm your belly
My favorite chick flick to warm your heart

It was actually really cute...good luck
