I have an iPhone 13 Pro.
My battery is not working as well as it could be, so I'm thinking about just replacing the battery in order to get more time out of this phone.
I do not want to spend the money on a new phone right now.
Has anyone done this?
I didn't really know this was a thing people did, as I always hear people talking about getting a new phone.
Thanks!!! I figured this board would be a good one for this question as we are looking to save money and be smart with our money! :)

I have had my battery replaced at the Apple Store on two different phones. One was $49 + tax which was a reduced price because of something Apple did to try to get people to upgrade their phones. The other was $89 + tax which was regular price. Both for iPhone SE models. I think the price varies by iPhone model.

I also did not know it was a thing and was super bummed when my daughter’s phone began expanding and I thought I was going to have to buy her a new phone. I took it into an aftermarket little shop that my husband had used when she’d shattered the glass on it not thinking they could do much. Much to my surprise he took it, came back in a few minutes, and $89 later she has a new battery. I wasn’t super pleased about dumping more money into her phone, but WAY cheaper than a new one!

And FYI if you do the replacement at the Apple Store you can use gift cards or your Apple account balance to pay. Just have your balance set up in your Apple wallet and it’s super easy to pay.

Do you have Apple Care on it? You can contact them to run a deeper battery diagnostic than you can do on your own to make sure it’s a battery problem. Idk if you can do that if you don’t have AppleCare.

Battery replacement is easy and much cheaper than a new phone. I’ve done it at an Apple Store and at BestBuy (they’re an authorized Apple support provider so a great option if you’re not near an Apple Store).

My Apple Care has expired. My Battery Health under Settings says Maximum Capacity is 79%. It also says "Your battery's Health is significantly degraded" and my research says that it's recommended to be replaced when it gets below 80%. If my battery was working great, I wouldn't worry about it, but I think it should be lasting longer.

I think the Apple Store runs that diagnostic when you go in for a battery replacement whether you have Apple Care or not. Both times I had battery replaced, they ran a diagnostic before they took it in. Not sure if they turn you away if the battery is ok.

There are a few options:
Apple store or authorized like Best buy all the same price more than likely close to 200 all in the price is listed online at Apple.
You can buy a battery and replace yourself from apple direct - They will rent you the tools as well also listed online little to no savings with tool rental.
Most likely you will need to tell apple you are replacing the Battery as they need to authorize for the phone to work no matter how - I think this can be done online now.
You can take it to a mall or like repair shop should easily be under 100 or buy a battery from many online like Ebay amazon to battery stores for most likely under 50 or less and replace yourself (it can be done with a little bit of effort and care with no issue plenty of videos and or picture instructions on youtube or apple site direct and many other) both will void Apple from ever buying this phone back from you as it is not a genuine apple battery - although it is not worth much now so consider that as well before you say this is a bad option.
lastly buy a new phone.
Apple batteries from 12 up are absolutely garbage..... Buy an XR or 11 with a new battery from a reputable seller... Or like others switch to Samsung that is easier to work with. Yes I have a Crapple phone as does my son and my wife for work but personal she has a Samsung and I can say without a doubt it works just as good as an apple and in some cases better with a longer battery life as in daily use and longevity at least compared to the new apple phones. - Samsung runs amazing pricing specials from time to time before saying retails..........
My XR was at 93% when I gave it to my son 4 years old... he traded it in at 6 years at 90% his new 15 is at 89% in a year. The XR easily outlasted the new phones when it was traded..... Mine did the same 89% after a year... % slows down dropping a lot after that.

I wish I could help, but my android battery is pretty awesome.

:)

I replaced my battery on my 12 mini this summer at the Apple store. It has improved my battery life, I wouldn't say by a huge amount, but it's better.

I really like the size of the mini, wish Apple would start making them again.

My brother who is quite talented did this to my dad's old phone and said never again. The battery ran about $80. It took him hours to do it. My dad's battery works great now, but. Just a word of warning that it was tricky to do. If you can find a little shop or get Apple to do it for you, it would be well worth the money I think.

I would definitely go through Apple.

I’ve replaced lots of stuff on my old iPhones including battery. I usually go with ifixit.com for my parts and instructions. That said newer iPhones do everything they can to make them difficult to repair on your own. You could read up for iPhone 13 and maybe do your self but very likely worth the money to replace through Apple.

Edit to add I’ve repaired TVs and old video games and consoles to point able to make my own games. Cell phone battery had my most concerning moment when bulging battery started to smoke when extracting it so make sure you follow safety as close as possible if do yourself lol.

I didn’t even know this was an option. I usually replace my phone when the battery starts giving up, every five years or so. Now I can push it out even further.

This is why this board is so great! You can always learn more. 🙂

I actually was still using an iPhone 6s until about a week ago cause I’ve been able to keep it working nice with some simple repairs. I only just now got a new iphone16 because noticed the battery was bulging week I had to go out of town for funeral and didn’t have time to get part to repair/didnt want to risk traveling with bulging battery. I did a trade in with an even older iPhone so still have the 6s I’ll have functioning again when I have time over holiday break lol.

I have an iphone 11 and the battery is just starting to seem like it doesn't last as long as it used to. I have shut off the auto update setting. With my last phone, I swore I wouldn't do any updates because it seems every time we let it update, suddenly the battery starts getting crappy but I eventually caved in with that phone, updated it and sure enough, by the next day the battery life was terrible. I vowed I will NEVER, EVER update an iphone again. Whatever features it has when I purchase it, will just have to last me until I need a new phone.

I've had my current one 3-4 years now and it doesn't get low until around 6 pm and that's if we get some quiet time at work when patients no-show, and I've been on it quite a bit.
I still only need to charge it overnight.

Do Iphone batteries often fail or not last very long? I have only had android phones and never had any battery issues. I agree was someone mentioned above, changing a battery on any sort of tiny electronic equipment likely takes special tools and skills to do correctly. You could also damage the device if you do something wrong. Seems like one of those things I would only have the experts do.

I've only had iPhones since the 3rd generation, but in general I've never had an issue with the batteries. My wife and I have been handing them down to our kids for the last 5 years, but we always have protective cases on the phones (otterbox) or something similar. So we have been happy with the life's of our iPhones.
