rental rates-any hope?

I'm going to be at WDW for a week over the Memorial Day holiday. Even on Costco car rentals for the week are $500 and up. Am I crazy to hope they will go down, or will they pretty much stick there because of the holiday?

There will be some movement, but I certainly wouldn't expect to get a minivan with a top tier company for $100/week like was available in years past. The question is what are you willing to put up with to save money? You can find a small vehicle from an off property rental company for much less than that. I am paying about $300 for a week long rental with a top tier company that allows me to walk right out to the garage. The recommendation is always the same, use www.autoslash.com book whatever you're comfortable with and then have them track the rental to get any price drops. I have a trip next week that I think it started at just over $400, and ended up at $295.

$500 for a holiday week from an airport location is what I would expect to pay. You can look at some off-airport places or Turo, but they'll usually take longer.

100% agree with using Autoslash. I had never heard of them until @EACarlson mentioned them in a post a few years ago. I've used them ever since. I had some big price drops using them, too - and I didn't have to constantly monitor rental sites.

Autoslash.com might find you a good rate with an.agency COSTCO doesn't book such as Thrifty.

Avoid the 1* and 2* offsite places like the plague.

it seems pretty spendy for March. We got in at $560 back on Jan 3, expecting it to go down for the 2nd week of March. Instead they shot up and the Cheapest car on Costco right now is $650, the same car went up to $700!

Have you considered flying into Tampa and checking there? Although the gas might invalidate any savings.

I've used priceline a few times and found some pretty great deals. We got a steal during Covid Summer on a big SUV for Yellowstone. Saved us near 50% and it was with Enterprise so not a small rental company.

Yes, my 10 day rental in March has been all over the place. Rates were high when I started checking, then they dropped a lot. I have an intermediate for $560 now and they have shot back up again from that price.
