looking for advice:

We are looking to rent at a resort that is not our home resort and looking to get a reservation that might be impacted*.

I initially had toyed with getting a cheap resale contract for that resort but have decided against, for a variety of reasons.

Should I look to rent points well in advance of the 11 month window or will people only be interested in transfer? It seems like most of the rental posts are between 7 and 11 months.

You can look for either, but if you get a transfer in, you can, at least, be in control of the reservation yourself.

do you think renters are willing to be on at 8 am on the correct day to get a reservation or if I want something specific I should probably maintain control of that by doing a transfer?

Keep in mind, that with transferred points you won’t be able to use them online at 8am during the home resort window - you will have to call MS to make the reservation at 9am.

So, if you are trying for a hard to get room (AKL value or BWV standard for example), transferred points will be no use to you.

Will they be able to call the day before to book and then walk it forward the next day at 8am based on availability?

I have heard that people are also unable to modify online with transferred points, so that would not work either.
