Recipes for Epiphany 2025?

Will do! I celebrate plenty of holidays that are religious based, without really belonging to any one religion myself. One that can include a Middle Eastern feast sounds like a good one to add! Though, would I go with the regular Jan 6th, or do it on Jan 5th this time? I kind of lean towards the 5th since I have more time to cook on the weekend.

One meal of 2025 planned, 364 to go! Though, maybe I'm going to make it a bit simpler and get some fresh pita and a dessert from our local Lebanese restaurant.
I'll have a link to the Epiphany mass on Sunday if you ever want to see it in the future on my Catholic thread.

I went to a Catholic Church for 18 years every single Sunday and Holy Day. I also was educated by Nun's and Brothers for 9 years straight, in Catholic Schools, and I have never heard of the "Epiphany". Did it have a different name at some point? On the other hand I haven't been what you would call religious for the last 58 years so I might have forgotten. I do seem to remember one that was on January 1st called the Feast of the Circumcision of Christ (True), that seems to have been cut off. Was this possibly moved from January 1st to January 3rd and the name changed to "Epiphany"? Seriously, I'm curious.

First off, don't feel you weren't a "good Catholic" for not knowing Epiphany. The nurse at my doctor's is Catholic, and she admitted she didn't know anything about it when I commented on something Purple reminding me of Epiphany. Even when I explained it, she didn't know any other name for it. Maybe "The Feast of the Kings"? I'm Protestant, United Church of Christ, and we celebrated Epiphany with a dinner every year. But my grandparents, who were Catholic, didn't.

Me thinks it is a relatively recent change in focus once someone reminded the Pope that Circumcision of Christ, once known as a holy day of obligation, is a Jewish religious custom not a Christian requirement.

Let me know how it turns out. 😋

We always try to make a night of "Twelfth Night." I honestly never thought about doing Middle Easter kinds of food. But that makes a whole lot of sense. We've always just had a roast and a cake.
Buzz...I think you may have started a new tradition in our family. Thank you!
Let me know how your meal went. 😋
Will you be leaving out grass and water for the camels and hot chocolate and dried fruit for the Wise Men as well? Just curious.

The 12th night of Christmas is January 5th. Epiphany is on January 6th, but in our church it is celebrated the following Sunday on the "1st Sunday after the Epiphany." On our (Lutheran ELCA) church calendar we'll stay in the season of Epiphany basically until Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.

It's interesting to see all the evolving traditions and celebrations throughout the years. Now we've sort of evolved again and my take (I may be wrong) is that most people not involved in a specifically liturgical Christian church consider Christmas over on December 26th and the "12 days of Christmas" as a countdown to Christmas. (Nothing is wrong with celebrations evolving, but many of us like to stick with the old ways so we have people celebrating in many different ways.)

Currently we're on January 4th, so the 11th day of Christmas. (11 pipers are piping!)

The entire concept of "organized" religion has reached a point of nothing more than a place to go and justify spreading hatred and one upmanship. Instead of love it tolerates hate. Instead of moral leadership it is full out political which is anything but moral. I am at the age where people that never thought about it much are clinging to some degree of hope mixed with fear of afterlife at the same time becoming more and more self-righteous and inflexible. That attitude has pushed me completely away for that particular slight of hand. I can have morality and know that just because I think something doesn't mean everyone else has to think the same. I will continue to live whatever life I have left using my own knowledge of right and wrong and not depend on others to tell me what that is. I will continue to be able to understand why people need that connection but reject the social requirement of participating in it.

Holy name of Jesus feast day (circumcision) is on January 3rd.

I hope you have clear skies and remember to lookup at the Moon …
Since last Friday Orlando has had exceptionally clear skies at night and I have been able to see the bright stars including planets with the naked eye.
Venus
Saturn
Jupiter
Mars
Check SkyLive .com for your local area.

It really makes you think about the wisdom of the Wise Men
Also think about Stars that Walt Disney used with Peter Pan second star to the right and Pirates of the Caribbean and Moana using the North Star to navigate in current movies.

I recently saw a tradition that was discussed online.
For the New Year make white cardboard stars and write one word .
When the person receives their Star that word will guide them for the entire year.

Thank you for this topic and Happy New Year full of stars !
