Recent travelers from China not allowed on cruise

You do not have to have a passport for a closed loop cruise leaving from the US. Even if you did, they are not going to flip through your passport book looking for recent travel stamps. That takes time that their check-in system doesn't really allow for. They haven't even looked at our passports at all on recent cruises. They flip to the page with the scannable magstrip, scan and go.

I suspect they will now... unless the scannable magstrip is going to do the lookup automatically.

I am guessing they will during this time period unless there is an easier way of looking it up.

It doesn't contain any information regarding your travel as it has no way to know where you have been. I may be wrong but I don't see DCL having their check in cast members massively slow down an already slogging process in order to check every page of everyone's passport who has one. I'm sure they'll have a slip of paper that you have to fill out at check-in now asking the question but just like the standard "are you sick" questionnaire, the folks who really wanna get on that boat may lie.

And as there are human-to-human transfers of the virus to people who HAVEN'T been in China, it's not a 100% guarantee it will hold the ships corona-virus free. But I guess it's the best they can do and hopefully it will keep down the hysteria.

The only way this can be enforced is via the "honor system". How would DCL know if a passenger had been to China in the previous 2 weeks?

They rely on the honor system for health screening anyway. I don't doubt that there are people who are not entirely honest on their health questionnaires which is how you end up with noro outbreaks onboard.

This is the email we received.
At Disney Cruise Line, nothing is more important than the well-being of our guests and crew members. Therefore, we want to provide you with some important information in advance of your cruise vacation.

Due to the novel coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China, the U.S. State Department has issued a Level 4 Travel Advisory recommending no travel to China. Disney Cruise Line is carefully monitoring the latest information about this situation and is in close contact with local, state, national and international health agencies for information and guidance.

Disney Cruise Line, along with the other members of the Cruise Lines International Association, has further enhanced the screening process for guests and crew members boarding cruise ships. In an abundance of caution and given the unique environment of a cruise ship, guests and crew members who indicate they have traveled from or through mainland China in the past 14 days will not be able to board.

If you or a member of your stateroom party have traveled from or through mainland China or have been in direct physical contact (having cared for, lived with, or had direct contact) with someone who has a confirmed or suspected case of novel coronavirus within 14 days prior to the start of your cruise vacation, please contact us at 1-866-325-2112 or 407-566-3510.

Disney Cruise Line employs rigorous sanitation standards and consistently receives among the highest scores on public health inspections. We also have a comprehensive plan that outlines protocols for managing this type of situation and closely follow the guidance of public health officials. For the most up-to-date information and a list of everyday preventive actions you can take to avoid the spread of germs, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, www.cdc.gov.

We look forward to your arrival and appreciate your cooperation and understanding regarding the importance of these added measures.

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew
Disney Cruise Line

I can see someone going with just showing their birth certificate if they really wanted to get past this. I would hope that someone would be honest about it.

Americans must have a visa to visit China. The visa takes up a whole page in my passport and is very easy to spot. Much different than an airport entry stamp.

But the Visa doesn't have the dates of your visit on it. My daughter and I were given 10 year Visas before our ABD China trip this past July. Dates of our visit are not on it. You have flip few pages back in our passports to find the dated stamps.

How many upcoming cruises would require US citizens to use their passport as id? I think not too many. They can't really change that requirement at the last minute without a huge amount of backlash from their primary market.

Also you have the 144 hours visa (for stopovers in China), which is a sticker and a stamp. This one does have a date, but more easy to skip over. Let's hope the staff at ports are briefed properly and know what to look for, the different types of visa you have. And hope no one is tired when they are checking passports.

Correct. But the visa could flag the passport for closer inspection for dates.

Ours are multi-year also, but if the visa is present, the CM could then look more closely for the entry/exit stamps.
