Questions about Dover!

Hey Everyone! Cruises from Dover are coming up and I'd LOVE feedback from anyone planning to stay overnight in Dover. How is the walkability there? Distance wise it doesn't look terrible at all. Just wondering how the walk is from the train station to the Best Western (looks like the walk is less than a mile. Very easy for our travelling party) And then walking to port. We're going to do the castle as well. Any feedback would be GREAT! I'm really not opposed to taking a cab, but if everything is as close as it looks on the maps, walking would be a great option for us.

I'm booked on The September Norwegian Fjords. I have booked Travelodge for the night before the cruise and I will be getting the train from London the day before the cruise.

I have watched a lot of YouTube videos from Dover and I have decided I am not going to walk it, I will get a taxi. I think its a false economy to walk instead of getting a taxi from the train station to the hotels.

Yes the distance is short, but have you walked a distance like that with your luggage? I have many times and from what I can see on Google maps, the sidewalks are narrow and uneven and along high traffic roads.

I have done walks like that many times and its not pleasant.

The same on the day to the port. I have watched many YouTube videos of people embarking on Disney Magic cruises from Dover. The walk to port is not a good idea. Again its a short distance, but Dover port is not pedestrian friendly.

I am planning to get a taxi from my hotel to the port.

Tink! You're the best! I was REALLY wondering about this and figured it would be WILDLY different than walking NYC. (Which we do with full luggage all the time) But it has officially reached the planning stage where I'm second guessing every thing and analyzing the little tiny things like this LOL

You are welcome. Dover is vastly different from walking in NYC, lol. Here in UK and Ireland, a small village / town like Dover is very different to walking in London. In London I have walked about the same distances with luggage and been fine. But I wont in Dover.

Go onto Google Maps, do street view and "walk" the route. You will be shocked, its so not like the wide, well kept sidewalks in NYC.

We sailed from Dover several years ago. I agree that walking to the port with luggage would be challenging. However, you should be able to walk from your hotel to Dover Castle, as long as you are OK with stairs and inclines.
