Question about Timing of On-Ride Photos

This will be our first ever trip to WDW and we have purchased the Memory Maker package, so we'll be getting the on-ride photos included with that. I'm hoping someone can tell me roughly at what point to expect my picture to be taken on each of the following rides. Really don't want to be caught unawares, as I may only be brave enough to ride some of these once (just to get the most out of the money spent on Memory Maker!) :goodvibes

(I'm adding in the answers to the original post in case others are searching.)

  • Space Mountain: Just after you come through the blue tunnel, as the ride vehicle turns, your photo is taken
  • Splash Mountain: about 2-3 seconds after the log tips over the edge of the big drop
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: near the end the cars stop and turn for you to do one last target shoot. You get a bit of a cue as to when it is if you aren't familiar with the scene as you will see the camera flashes as they take the photos of those to your left (in front of you, but the cars turn sideways at that point)
  • Tower of Terror: On or around the second lift when the doors open letting daylight in, just as you are about to drop
  • Rock ‘n Roller Coaster: Right on the launch, immediately at take off (when the light turns green)
  • Expedition Everest: about 2-3 seconds after the log tips over the edge of the big drop / as you come out of the cave down a drop
  • Dinosaur: During the ride the car stops briefly and a big T-Rex comes from the left like he's chasing the vehicle. Then a little further down closer to the end of the ride you'll come to a big Carnotaurus (Main Dinosaur the ride is featured around and similar to a T-Rex) on the right hand side. He lets out a roar and that's when the picture is taken.

So everyone is looking to the right at the dino when it flashes. If you want to be looking directly at the camera, you'll have to look a little to the left of the Dino. When the pics are taken you can see everyone is looking slightly to the right (Their right) away from the camera because they're looking at the dinosaur
  • Test Track: about five seconds after you've been outside. You come outside, go down a small hill and level out. A couple seconds after that there is a big camera and flash on the right side of the track. It's before you turn to the right to start the small loop that gets you going in the direction of the main building.

Thanks so much!!

Here is what I recall, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Space - at the very beginning, it's an odd spot as you round a corner before you start the incline
Splash - just as you start your decent down the big drop
Buzz - I can't remember, I think it's in with zurg...
Tot - I believe it's right after the doors open and you see out into the park as they drop you the first time
Rockin roller coaster - immediately at take off (when the light turns green)
Everest - as you come out of the cave down a drop
Dinosaur - towards the end as a dinosaur comes out on your left, it takes a pic on the right (everyone is always looking away in the pic)

Does anyone have a list of the rides that have photos taken? Do they take photos on the 'kiddie' rides like Dumbo and Barnstormer?

I got the list above from a review of Memory Maker on Disney Tourist Blog. If there are any other rides that also have on-ride photos, I'd love to know about it! :)

Thanks so much for the great answers! This was super helpful!

The info for the Dinosaur ride photo is wrong.

For Test Track, I'm 99% sure the photo is taken when your outside on the speed section going around the curve hugging the building.

But half the fun of these pictures are the priceless expressions everyone has on their faces. :) Seriously though, we got the Photo Pass Plus the last time we went, and we had some HILARIOUS photos! My then 4 year old daughter looked like she was scared for her life on Splash Mountain, even though she loved it. And the look on my face while in tears on Tower of Terror was great. I even knew when the photo was taken on Rockin Roller Coaster, but you're put under so many G forces at the beginning, it's hard to do much of anything for a photo. They turned out great though! it's more fun to capture the true moment rather than have it look staged. Either way, you're capturing GREAT memories!

Test Track picture location changed after they re-did it last year. Used to be right before the double doors open at the last second to let you outside. It's now about five seconds after you've been outside. You come outside, go down a small hill and level out. A couple seconds after that there is a big camera and flash on the right side of the track. It's not even so much that I'm planning to "pose" per se for the ride photos. But as I'm not typically a "rollercoaster person", I'd like to make sure that I'm at least looking in the right direction for a picture and not huddling with my head between my knees or something!!! :scared: Honestly, the only reason I'm even considering some of the rides is because I want to get every penny's worth out of the Memory Maker! I do NOT want to have to ride twice just to get a good pic, haha! Plus it's something to think about in the six long months I have before I arrive in Orlando. ;)

Exactly! The info you got before is wrong. The photo is taken on the right. The vehicle stops and the HUGE dinosaur pops out on the right just before the picture is taken. That is where you'll be looking. We always like to put our arms up and looked scared or point at it. lol You can have a LOT of fun with dinosaur!

The cameras are really easy to spot as well! :)

haha That's what your picture will be like on Rockin' Roller Coaster. You go like 0-60 in 2 seconds and WHILE that is happening they take the picture. RIGHT at the launch while you're in the tunnel. I always have a stupid holding my breath look with my eyes squeezed shut. lol But at least the picture is something funny to look at. :lmao:

The camera on Dinosaur is always with the carnataurous, as these two said, but WHERE with him varies. In Fall, 2012 the camera was on the same side as the dino. In Fall 2013 it was on the other side of the tracks (look at the direction the entire car is looking).

You can have a LOT of fun with dinosaur!

This. Dinosaur is one of my favorite rides at Disney. Not because it's an awesome, exciting ride. Not because it's themed to one of my favorite Disney movies. Not because I have this childhood connection to it. Because I can act silly and be "afraid" of dinosaurs and pose for one of the best photo opportunities of any ride.

That is weird. I was there in Oct 2012 and the camera was in the exact same spot as it was this past January 2014. On the right with the dinosaur.

I love it too! Also Indiana Jones at Disneyland! It's virtually the same type of ride just different theme of course! :)

Does anyone know. If you get the memory maker and ride these attractions multiple times, do you gat all the photos? Or just one? Thanks

As long as you stop and get the picture put on your memory maker after each ride, you will have them all! I have like 6 different pictures on test track/dinosaur/splash mountain :)
