Possible Dumb Banking/Borrowing Question

I have what may be a silly banking/borrowing question, but I really want confirmation. Let's say I have 150 points in a given UY, and I make a reservation for 210 points by borrowing 60 points. What happens if I change that reservation (or delete it and make a new one) to only cost 150 points? I realize the 60 borrowed points remain borrowed. The question is will I still be able to bank any remaining points not associated with those 60 points? In this instance, 60 borrowed points + 90 points from the original UY would be used for reservation, leaving me with 60 in that UY. I assume I could bank them? Normally, it seems like I clearly would be able to, but I also see it allows one to play a little loose with the banking/borrowing rules, i.e., I borrowed 60, but I effectively ended up putting them back (with restrictions, like can't bank again).

Thanks for the sanity check!

Yes you can still bank 60. It adds flexibility like you say, but it forces you to use at least 60 this year and then 60 next year, no longer being able to bank and then use 2 years worth of points. That's the downside to it, but if you are sure you want to go on a trip both years it's not much of an issue

That's what I thought, but I really wanted to make sure I was not missing some exception or fine print! Thanks much!

You can bank them IF you haven't gone past your banking deadline when you cancel. I've heard of one time exceptions to the banking deadline rules but you cannot count on getting pixie dusted like that.

Yes, I would be well within my banking window, so that thankfully is not an obstacle! :)

Not a dumb question at all - it's confusing! Glad that it should work out for you.

To add, you have to make any changes at least 31 days or more from thr start of the trip or any freed up points will not be in holding status, and can’t be banked, even if you are still in your banking window.

Thanks for asking this because I have been wondering this as well!
