Polynesian Tower theme park view

I'm glad you're happier with your new room @JOLT, but I think your representation of the two views is borderline misleading.

1) The castle shot from the new room has a much greater zoom/crop compared to the original room. Overlaying the good view photo over the 'bad' view photo and aligning based on the edge of Grand Flo building:

Zooming out, the full comparison is clear:

Of course, because these weren't from the same perspective there's some misaligned stuff, like the trees at the wedding pavilion, the wedding pavilion itself, and the castle.

1B) The "no head turning" comment should also apply to your previous room, see the overlaid photos above. Though maybe 3rd floor might be too low to see the castle specifically? Can definitely see Space Mountain and the Train Station in the photo. Maybe also Tron.

2) I think you gave up one of the better fireworks views at Island Tower, considering that fireworks (most nights) launch from north of the castle and, for typical nightly fireworks specifically, facing north is better than facing directly east, which some of the TPV do.

The Island Tower rooms that face northeast are probably the best angle overall, but all things considered (and my preference for fireworks), north-facing seems better than the east-facing.

3) In two of your 'bad room' photos, the camera is simply turned away from Magic Kingdom...
@ehh …Always a man of reason. Giving voice to what others are thinking 💭. 😜

Used Google Maps and the answer is...
.78 Riviera to Ball, .9 Poly Tower to Castle (though I'm approximating where the PITower is).
Distance to typical fireworks is even bigger difference...

Almost exactly half a mile from Riviera to the middle of World Showcase Lagoon, the general area where most of the fireworks are launched from:

Versus 1.2mi from Island Tower to the approximate launch site based on permits from 3 years ago:

I think the MK fireworks are larger and launched higher into the air, however.

We checked in on 12/31 and they first offered a first floor TPV. I asked for something higher and they gave me one of those north facing rooms as well. I was happier than the first floor room and for me, I enjoyed seeing the monorail and castle. That said, I would prefer to face east and certainly higher up. I was told by the CM checking in that anything that doesn’t face Shades is TPV. For 89 points a night in high season, it was one time I was going to ask for something better.
How was the view from the first floor? I don't know for the most expensive 1 bedrooms that's a big gamble of not getting a good room.

I didn’t even go to the room. I know sometimes it causes issues if people actually go to the room and ask to switch. The CM tried to upsell it as having a “patio” and being ready. I love a 1st floor BLT room but those aren’t TPV a nowhere near the points. Ha ha ha.

Does this tower seem to have more rooms with "embellished" view classifications than any other DVC property that Disney has built before? Maybe? Could this be a different approach to increase points since the lock off premium scandal was caught twice by members, and yielded nothing for them?

I don’t think it has to do with that because they did at TPV for the resort studios at VGF.

I do think that they pushed the limits in setting the TPV rates but I think most expected that would happen.

So the a lot of the resort studios at VGF have view declarations that are not what they should be? Resulting in higher point requirements? Wouldn't that pad Disney's wallet more?

That’s not what I am saying. I am saying they added the TPV category for some of the resort studios and that category does not exist at the original VGF building.

I don’t think this is a sinister plot by DVD to do something that they shouldn’t be doing, which seems to be the point of your questions? Or am I misunderstanding that?

Views are views and while some may not agree that a certain room should be classified as a certain way…the charts are set based on whatever formula DVD decided to use to create the resorts total points.

So, with PVB tower, they knew that the rooms would have enhanced views and capitalized on that when creating the chart.

It’s not always as bad as you think. At RIV, most of the parking lot view rooms…Resort View…which are to the less expensive views…also have a view of the fireworks.

Some have suggested those should be more and other rooms that are PV less simply because of fireworks. But DVD chose to label them the way they did because they overlook a parking lot.

DVD also kept the studio points at the tower the same as the longhouses for the same view classification.

If they had wanted to simply pad their wallets, they could have made those more expensive but did not.

I guess as long as you do have a view of the theme park, a TPV category assignment is perfectly legit, if not, then no, that's wrong. But I will give Disney a bit of credit with the "fireworks" views at Rivera being assigned with standard view point requirements.

Sandi wait till you check out the tower and see the view from 1st floor. You can see the the top of space mountain and maybe some of the train station. Mostly the walkway to the lobby and chapel.

I definitely have questions for DVD. Using BLT and Jambo House on how it distinguishes Savannah / theme park view and resort / lake view. It seems like dvc is calling partial views theme park more than other resorts.

47 and 52 points a night this time year.

65 and 75 points a night next month.

I’m guessing the fireworks view might be very good at night. It’s not a great daytime view or theme park view. First Floor is a big s-t-r-e-t-c-h.

Downgrading premium views would need to make up those points elsewhere. Maybe some of the standard can be moved to preferred? Otherwise raise premium preferred?

I don’t think we’ll ever book TPV at VGF because there’s a 30% chance we’d be disappointed, either being blocked by that tree or 1st Floor. We booked Standard/Resort View next month for 18pts/nt when TPV is a whopping 28pts/nt. There really isn’t a bad view imo for standard (Big Pine Key). For the 55% increase of points required for that highest tier it’s too much of a gamble.

For premium views at Poly we’ll probable just stick with the longhouses’ Lake View. Very reasonable point jump, all 3 floors have gorgeous views, and the top 2 floors have beautiful fireworks views and theme park straight ahead. Fireworks are watchable from ground floor but the ka-bungalows can distract a bit.

I just don't think Disney will let go off the points that they stood to gain with thier two failed attempts at creating new lock off premiums. They will just go about it in a different, more legal fashion? I'm just saying to not let your guard down in the future in regards to view categories/point assignments.

I fully expected them to give standard the first few floors of the parking lot side. Preferred would be anything above that and the poly facing rooms and maybe the first 3 floors of theme park facing.
