The star trails theead astrophotography inspired me to go out and take a few night sky pictures last night. I haven't fired up GIMP to stack those, yet.

I did find Saturn with my 20x point and shoot. Of course this is highly cropped

I've seen better pictures from 50x bridge cameras, but its fun to get a halfway recognizable shot of Saturn's rings from a nearly pocketable PnS without any extra equipment than a basic tripod.

WOW! This is such a pretty, uniques shot! I love creative views of Disney icons. May I ask what camera and setting you used?

Thank you! I actually don't have a clue about settings but I used my old Kodak point and shoot. I don't even know the model anymore because it was 2 cameras ago... sorry.

From this past Sunday, July 21, 2013 -- Catalina Island in Southern California

Catalina Express is offering free round-trip boat rides (a $72.50 value) to everyone on their birthday through the end of April 2014 -- although this is the 3rd year in a row they have run this free birthday promo.

This is the second year I have taken advantage of the free birthday promo, and the photos from last year's trip and this year's trip look dramatically different in terms of color, because it was very sunny in 2012 and very overcast this year!

While Catalina is a very scenic, picturesque place and there are many postcard-worthy shots just waiting to be captured, I should preface the following photos by saying that these are in no way my best shots. I have taken much, much better photos -- on Catalina, at Disneyland and around my neighborhood -- in the past, some of which I have already shared in this thread. Circumstances were not conducive to getting really good pictures on this particular day. The sun was not out for a large part of the day, and I was having some health issues that made it difficult to concentrate and get in the mood for the usual photo spree I would embark on.

But, nonetheless...I wanted to represent Catalina a little bit more (I think I already posted a photo or two from my 2012 trip to the Island in this thread, possibly), and so here are a few of my recent efforts!

On the Express boat out of Long Beach (where the TV show "Dexter" is filmed) to Catalina Island, sometime between 6:15 and 7:15 a.m., the sun made a dramatic appearance. But it didn't stick around for too long!

Flowers in Avalon (Catalina's main town) - it may have been overcast, but it was a warm, muggy day...

Night falls on sleepy Catalina's iconic Casino, and the sea lion I had been watching ducked underwater before I could snap his picture!
