Anyone have any recommendations for a family of four for a reasonable priced dinner? Anyone been to the old spaghetti factory?

We went to a hamburger bar / brewery right on the water down from the Pan. It was the best meal we had the entire time in Vancouver and reasonably priced. They had outside seating as well, it was kid friendly. More of a restaurant than brewery. But there beer flights were good, fyi.

We ate at both the Cactus Club and Tap & Barrel while in Vancouver. We enjoyed them both and they are very close to the Pan Pacific - just the other side of the convention center. Tap & Barrel was probably the cheaper of the two, though I think either would be considered reasonable for Vancouver. Don't let the name fool you, Tap & Barrel had plenty of kids there, especially sitting outside as we were. There were also a lot of kids at Cactus Club. A portion of the restaurant was reserved for adults, but the place is huge so there were lots of families there as well. We also ate at Steamworks in Gastown and really enjoyed it. I'd say price wise it was closer to the Cactus Club. It's not as close as the other two, but still very walkable or a very short (and cheap) cab ride away.

We did not eat at the Spaghetti Factory, but here is an interesting tidbit about it. We did a ghost tour one evening in Gastown and we stopped there. Supposedly it is quite haunted. Our guide had lots of stories about sightings there, and I'm sure he wouldn't exaggerate! :goodvibes

A trolley driver recommended this restaurant to us while we were visiting, it was awful. Some people love it though, food is subjective but being Italian it was some of the worst Italian food we ever eaten.

There is a cute outdoor restaurant right in the hotel we ate at one night. It was such pretty scenery and decent food, sorry I can't remember the name of it.
We also tried their Sunday Opera brunch, it was delicious as good as Palo to us, but it was a bit pricey. Palo is a steal at $30.

We walked just a few blocks from the hotel and ate at this adorable restaurant with outdoor seating. I'll have to look through my pictures to find the name. My 12 year old son liked his food so much, he insisted that we eat there again when we came back into port! It was slightly "fancy" but still nice for kids and delicious food. It was right across from the steam clock! That's what i remember.

Tap & Barrell - that was it. Awesome. Highly recommend.

If you have any picky eaters or don't want to spend as much, there is a food court in the building across the street. Just go down the stairs to go inside.

This might not meet your definition of reasonably priced, but we thought Five Sails (located in Canada Place) was superb for food, service, and atmosphere (we also thought it was reasonably kid friendly for a relatively fancy restaurant).

We also ate at Cactus Club Cafe (about 2 blocks away) on another night. I liked it, but my wife didn't. She thought the food was good but didn't like the atmosphere. Very happy hourish type crowd, not very kid friendly, and she thought the waitresses were too scantily clad (this, however, didn't bother me:)). In addition, there was a table next to us who were drinking like fish and swearing like sailors.

There are lots of great restaurants in Vancouver but overall they were more expensive than what we're used to. We were there three days and ordered hamburgers at several places to keep from breaking the budget.

Honestly, they are a chain and if you live near one they are ok, but my opinion is that when traveling it is always much better to find local places that you can't try anywhere else.

Personally we really liked a recommendation from our hotel when we went on a roadtrip, it is called Caveman Cafe, you can find their website at:
http://www.cavemancafe.ca/

They offer Paleo, Vegetarian, Vegan and Meat options and all are affordable, especially with the exchange rate, really makes it dirt cheap and it was so much food we couldn't finish what we got, despite really wanting to.

I will say this isn't a site down type of place, but it is really good and they do have more than just what is on their signature menu on their website.

Their address is: 88 W Pender St, Vancouver, BC V6B 6N8

It is about 1.1KM/ 0.7 miles from the Pan Pacific Hotel.

We ate lunch at SteamWorks. It was good and the beer flight made for a fun lunch. We thought about dinner at the Cactus Cafe, but there was a long wait for dinner and we though the menu was pricey. For breakfast the next morning, I woke early and used the tunnel from the Pan into the food court across the street. I stopped at a drug store 1st to pick up a few necessities for the trip and a 1/2 gallon of milk. IN the food court The line for McD's was out of control, so I stopped by another fast food place, I think Tim Hortons was the name (we don't have those in the SE USA) and got a few breakfast sandwiches, some breakfast platters, etc. We ate in our rooms at the pan with in room coffee, while everyone else got ready, and I think I spent $20 for 6 of us.

Yes, for breakfast Tim Hortons is really a good option, apparently they have good coffee drinks as well, but since I don't drink coffee I can't tell you for sure.

We stopped at Steamworks on our food walking tour for a drink - but it looked like a great place to eat.

We did have dinner at the Lions Pub (Across the street from the Fairmont - which is across the street from the Pan Pacific). Really enjoyed our "British" meal.

Had a pulled pork sandwich at the Flying Pig - Delish!!

Twisted Ice Cream for some good Ice Cream

and as far as your original question - every other original spaghetti factory that I've eaten at has been pretty darn good.

Is it haunted like Murder House from Season 1 of American Horror Story? I've just started watching that show on Netflix and I sure wouldn't want to eat there!

Back to OP's question, "Mean Poutine" is not close to your hotel, but it sure is good! It is close to the Sheraton Wall Centre where we stayed.

There is also a food court across the street from the Pan Pacific beneath the Waterfront hotel for cheap eats. Yes, there is a Mickey Dee's.

Another vote for Steamworks! Great food and service and reasonably priced beer flights!!

Was it the Water Street Cafe? I haven't eaten there in years, but it was always very good!

Vancouver has so many great restaurants, I always cringe a little when people recommend the Old Spaghetti Factory, it is not very good IMO.

Tap and Barrel, Steamworks and Cactus Club are all good and close by. Similar to Cactus Club, but a couple blocks further away - JOEY Bentall One and Earls are both very good. Earls has a happy hour food menu from 3-6pm that has great deals - 8" margarita pizza for $3.00! I also really like The Flying Pig, they have locations in Gastown and Yaletown. You may want to check out all the menus on line to see what would suit your family the best.

If you've eaten at OSF in the States, don't go there. It might be palatable for those who don't know the menu in the US, but it's just so different. (And not in a good way. Given that I'm a wannabe expatriot who loves just about every other country and their foods and ways better than my country of birth, this is saying something BIG. It's just NOT good.)

And it's the opposite for Red Robin FYI. The Red Robin off Robson is delish! Way better than RR in the US, though actually the US is stepping up its game recently.

Downtown Vancouver is soooo walkable and everything there is relatively close, so branch out from right near PP.
