Penzys Spice people

just bought their Dutch Process Coco Powder for hot chocolate. We just got back from Munich a few weeks ago and I had the best hot chocolate I've ever had. I'm really hoping the Penzys Coco Powder is just as good because I really don't like hot chocolate from packets here in the US.
If, for whatever reason, you need another source for hot chocolate similar to the Euro style you might want to give this company a try:

Used to have friends bring me European cocoa when they visited but ended that practice when M. Torres opened his factory in Brooklyn. Now they bring me Kirschwasser… 🥃 💓

We are fans of BBQ3001, and Chili 9000.

Love Penzeys, those are the only spices in our cabinet!

This reminds me…I need to do my annual spice check for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

We use pretty much all of them. The catalog usually explains what each blend is recommended for, so that's a guideline. If you sign up for their emails, they will send you coupons for free or token-priced small bottles of blends quite regularly. (Note if you are dealing with them by mail-order: their bottles are glass, so shipping can get heavy. Usually cheaper to buy a larger quantity in a plastic bag and use your own jar to store it.)

As for our most-used:
33rd & Galena: really good on pork.
Trinidad: very nice on grilled fish
Justice: good on root veggies or chicken (mostly onion and garlic in this one)
BBQ of the Americas: we like to mix this into beef burger patties
Fajita seasoning: excellent and not overly salty.
Dried shallots: a lot more convenient than hunting down fresh shallots in recipes that call for them.
Frozen pizza seasoning: if like us, you're not above using a frozen pizza for a quick meal, this blend will make it much more flavorful. I also buy their fennel seed for pizza in general, both frozen and homemade, because I love fennel seed on pizza.

Also, a mention of their baking spices: they have I think 4 different flavors of cinnamon depending on what you prefer, and they have
seriously excellent high-fat cocoa for baking. The vanilla is also very good, if you don't already have access to Nielsen-Massey.
Such a memory…my grandma used to live on 34th and Galena! We used to pass by 2 different spice shops frequently, one of them has big barrels that you could see through the windows. Not to date myself, but this was probably 50 years ago or so!

Thanks to all of you for all the thoughts and suggestions! I'm taking notes and will be making my order soon. I really appreciate the help. :)

Thanks, I guess? I've never bought anything from them in my life so I have no idea what you even mean. 🤷‍♂️
The people who own Penzey's are not shy about letting customers know their own preference in the general election; that's what the PP means. I'll leave it to the interested to dive deeper into details if you care to, because it's this board, not the other one.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the explanation. I guess I can honestly say I didn't seek them out for any other reason than someone recommended them to me so I figured I'd look into their products. I had no idea it would be a problem. Thanks though, guess you learn something new every day. :)

Tell me who you're voting for without telling me who you're voting for....

I knew this post was eventually coming.

There is a tab on the upper right corner of the website.

It's not a problem.
Just ignore what they say and carry on with their products.

Yes, I also shop a lot at Starbucks and Target. I like their products.
