Party favors necessary for adult birthday party?

For my children's parties I always have a party favor (something like a personalized candy, etc). We are throwing my mom a 60th birthday party at a restaurant at 6pm. Is it necessary to give out a party favor?
Thanks!

Party favors are not necessary at any party. They are a waste of money in almost all cases.

Necessary? No.

Fun? Yes. :joker:

But I would make it something silly -- like bubbles or those little parachute guys that you toss up in the air.

IMO, grown-ups don't get enough toys on their birthdays.

:earsboy:

I don't think they're needed or expected, especially at a restaurant.

Have fun!

I don't think you need them at all and I wouldn't expect them, but it wouldn't be that weird if you did.

Of course, this is someone who had favours (two chocolate truffles in an unlabeled box) at her mother's memorial service. My mum LOVED party favours, so she'd have loved it, but I admit it could be seen as totally weird/strange/wrong.

Thank you everyone! Exactly what I was thinking especially with it being adults at a restaurant.

I went to 2 parties this weekend and NO favors at either. Honestly, I did notice...but in a positive way!

Favors aren't really necessary, but sometimes people feel obligated!

First party was 25 people at a restaurant for a communion.

Second one was about 100 people for a 60th b-day at a catering hall.

I've never seen party favours given out at adult parties. Ever. So I wouldnt bother to be honest.

Kids parties though, yes. Its quite common and expected I think. My son has never been to a party and came home without a party favour.

No, Idon't think they are necessary.

I must hang with the wrong crowd. I turned 60 in February only had my family take me to dinner. But then again, I told them no surprise party and I don't have 100 friends. :rotfl:

I agree with those that said its not necessary. That's what I was thinking too. However, I don't feel favors are a waste. I always do something yummy like Hershey bars in a personalized wrapper or something. Always get lots of compliments. As my children get older i will try to make their favors for the kids fun and not junky toys.
Now the candles, ice cream scoopers and wine openers I have accumulated over the years, those to me are a waste.

Party favors usually end up in the garbage. Certain parties seem to expect them like at Showers but really, still a waste.

Hope your party is wonderful and that your Mom has a great Birthday. :cake::bday::cake:

We gave scratch off lottery ticket to each guest at my DH's 40th birthday party. I think there were about 25 to 30 guests at a hall that we rented.

I would think it was weird if I got a party favor at an adult birthday party. I'm used to them at weddings & showers, but can't remember ever getting one at another adult function

Yes, party favors are a thoughtful way to thank guests for taking time out of their day to celebrate with you. Party favors/gift bags do not have to be expensive but just thoughtful.

I don't think it is necessary. I think it is thoughtful of you if you decide to do it. However I don't think you need to spend the money.

I am one of those people that either leaves the party favor or take it home and get rid of it. I don't need candles, nail files, stale candy (I swear the bulk candy at party stores is 10 years old), wine stoppers, bottle openers, cheap picture frames, lip balm, pens, pads of paper, or loofahs.

To me, throwing the event is enough and I don't expect anything more from the host.
