Besides bikes, any recommendations for what to get 9 year old boys to play with outside? That they won't break in a day? Thanks!

Pogo stick! My boys love theirs. They must have spent 2.5 hours on it yesterday!

Basketball Goal.

Our nephew also likes a pellet gun that we got him. He shoots the targets and is responsible with it. We tell him safety rules and he abides by them.

Not sure what type of hobbies he has but these may help.

besides all the obvious sports stuff like basketball hoop

Giant balls
remote controlled cars
water guns
Nerf
We tried tennis but it didn't hold my guy's interest
Chalk is still fun
skateboard!! My boys love their skateboards.

really likes his ripstik
kites are fun too
he spends most of his time with the basketball hoop though

My ds is 8 and he likes his bike, scooter, skateboard, wiffle ball, baseball pitchback, ladder ball, and nerf guns and super soakers. We border the woods so he also loves to go hunting for frogs and turtles and has a 5 gallon bucket from Home Depot, a big net and walkie talkies (so he can tell me all about his catches )
We are getting a basketball hoop this year for my older ds but I'm sure my 8 year old will love it too.

You're going to wonder if I'm crazy, but Lightsabers. Get several and the duelling can go on for hours.

Also, big water guns, for warmer weather, of course.

ramps for skateboards/bikes
rollerblades
that ball game that one ball is attached to a pole and you hit it around the pole
walking-sticks

skateboard w/helmet (please wear helmet)
ramp

basketball goal = years and years of use

soccer net

kites
remote control car/plane
bubbles
airsoft gun (?)

Ez roller ride on. Mine was gift for 10 yo son but my younger kids love it too. They use it every morning while waiting for bus

Great suggestions, thanks! Since my sons have winter bdays, I always like to get them some new outside toys for Easter! I didn't know they still made pogo stick, I always wanted one of those!

My boys have winter birthdays too. They turned 10 and 11 this past December.

We bought them a cheap metal detector for Christmas, and they have spent hours looking for buried treasure. :rotfl: It only cost about $30.00, and it was the biggest hit this Christmas. We had a very mild winter here, and any time the ground was clear of snow, they were outside digging. DH just told them to stick to the edge of the yard!

They also have bow and arrow sets with a target that they use a lot.
