NEW Disney Gift Card Deals and More

This morning I spent some time on the phone with Allianz representatives and supervisors regarding the required documentation for travel expense payments - and specifically addressed gift cards in general. I now have specific confirmation of the steps that are needed IF ANY of the trip costs are paid by ANY gift card - Visa, MC, AMEX, or Disney Gift Card. They require a copy of the original receipt of purchase for the gift card, along with a copy of the gift card used. In addition, they require a copy of the source of payment for the gift card to verify the actual cost of the gift card (if a discount was used)...ie credit card statement. Even went as far as to give me information applicable to gift cards received as gifts. That was interesting. I kept a file for the call and the names etc of the individuals I spoke with. The website info for claim documents is fairly generic, but both individuals were able to give me specific examples of accepted proof of payment - particularly related to items they consider to be “cash”. In my opinion it's worth the call. YMMV
That is great info :)
I normally always have the gift cards so I guess I just need to start printing off the receipt and attaching it to the gift card
Now I’m not sure how it works when you bundle more than one Disney gift card and go to Disney’s gift card website and put it on just one card…. but I’m sure everything can always be tied back to the original

I believe too Allianz is cheaper than the Dcl insurance…. I need to call my credit card too though because I might just be able to go with them.

Thanks!!

Credit Cards & More

Just noticed Costco put their Uber gift cards on sale through 2/23 (while supplies last limit 2 per member) $75 for a $100 gift card.

We fly in to Sanford and use Uber to get to and from WDW, so this helps lower the cost.

The thing about Uber gift cards, as Doc recently warned, is that they play games and if you have an Uber gift card in your account the app quotes you a higher price than you would get if you didn't have gift cards and were paying by credit card. So you don't really end up saving that much.

Except we don’t know how hard you are hit for having the gc and only sometimes people see different prices than others so it’s hard to know is this really that big of hit vs gc savings? I tried pricing with gc loaded and Amex credits but using a cc as the payment vs gc/credit payment and the price changed a few cents once and not at all next time. Even if you don’t load a gc but have an Amex Platinum credit you’re stuck. Maybe hold off on loading gc until after your first ride so you know pricing isn’t whacked out at least on that one?

I did like DoC’s point about charging to a cc to preserve your ability to dispute since you can change the payment method for 30 days. I’m going to implement that for myself.

The other thing is, you can buy gift cards to Uber but you never know whether Uber will be cheaper or Lyft. And sometimes the difference in price can be significant. Just 2 weeks ago, I needed a ride from the airport to my house - Uber wanted $28 and Lyft was only $18. Even had I bought the Uber gift cards at 25% off, Lyft would still be cheaper (and there are almost always credit card deals for 5 - 10% off Lyft).

Rakuten in store tracking- does the card need to be linked for 24 hours before making a purchase? My CVS never tracked but I linked it within hour of making the purchase…

I used to link it in the morning and use the offer around lunchtime. It usually showed as pending that evening.

I'm curious though, do you still have a cashback offer for CVS in store? It has not been showing for me for the last few days.

To finish the point on Uber gift cards, I bought around $100 in Uber gift cards last year at 20% off for one of our trips, but at the end of the day felt not only did I not save anything but possibly even lost money. The reason is because then we were stuck using Uber even though a majority of the time it seemed like Lyft was cheaper.

So to me, Uber gift cards are only worth it if you use rideshare often, but someone who only uses it once or twice a year when on vacation, it probably isn't worth buying them even at 20 or 25% off.

(Now if you are buying them to use for Uber Eats, that is a different story.)

New round of Citi SYW spend offers. Remember these vary dramatically by person and show up via email and/or snail mail. Today I got spend $800/month on Home Improvement, get 10% back up to $100 each month Feb/Mar/April. I need some DGCs and I have family who need a chunk so gift cards here I come!

I just posted this on The Cake Bake Shop thread but thought someone here might also be interested…
I purchased the new 2025 copy of “Birnbaum’s Disney World Guide” as a gift for a friend and found there are a ton of great coupons in the back of book including a 20% off coupon for dining at The Cake Bake Shop. I purchased through Amazon and it arrived the next day.
The coupons at the back of the book also included a movie theater offer, 10% off Earl of Sandwich, “A Free Hummingbird Chef’s Treat w/Purchase of meal or an appetizer, 15% off Speery, and too many other offers to list here.
Did the cake bake shop coupon have an expiration or any restrictions? I assume it can be used at the Disney location?

Check your BJs accounts. I have a one-day coupon - $15 off $150. It expires TODAY.
It does not seem to work on Disney GC, though I don't see GCs listed as an exclusion.

I got this offer in my snail mail two days ago and then in my email yesterday but it's for a minimum $750 monthly spend with a maximum of $800 with no categories.

But I also got an offer last month for 10% back on $1500 spend at grocery stores up to $150 statement credit and it is good for every month of 2025.

I want to take advantage of both but I know they won't stack. So I'm guessing that if I make online purchases totaling $800 first and then buy GCs at a grocery store meeting that minimum spend, I will get both?

Oh poo! I got the coupon too and it doesn't work for me either. Would have been a sweet stack with other offers I have.

All the chatter I’ve seen on DoC, SYW offers stack…

Do you buy them in person, or via website?
