New Amtrak Route

This has been suspected for a while now, but Amtrak has made it official. Starting on November 10th the Capitol Limited will be combined with the Silver Star to form a new route called the Floridian (train 40/41). This will run daily from Chicago to Miami with stops in Orlando and Kissimmee using the Viewliner trains.

Interesting. Daily service but 47h for that ride? Still not bad for some snowbirds.

Because the route goes through Cleveland, people from Syracuse / Buffalo (even Toronto / southern Ontario) could theoretically connect through there.

That looks cool, but I don't think I'll be replacing my Detroit to Orlando flight any time soon.

There are other routes like this. For example the Southwestern Chief from Chicago to LA. They just run two trains in each direction.

It doesn't sound like it's an auto train though. I would think snow birds would want to bring their car

The ones I know keep a car in FL so they don’t have to bring it each way!

This is the boat(or train) that I'm in. My wife is TERRIFIED of flying, and so we drive or take the train on trips that most others would opt to fly. She has started begging me for a trip to Disney the past month or so. We haven't made it there since late 2019, and we have three under age 5. I keep telling her that we will get there, but that I want the kids to be able to remember it, so it'll be at least another year. We are in the Midwest, so the Amtrak to Florida or California is two solid days of travel, and I'm not sure my kids can handle 48 hours on a train yet.

I'm currently exploring limo services to get us from the train station in Fullerton to Disneyland, or from the station in Kissimmee to Disneyworld. We don't want to wait on the southbound train to Anaheim as Amtrak suggests to get to Disneyland, as it's scheduled three hours after the Southwest Chief arrives(assuming it's on time).
