OMG, Kimmar! What a difference! It is gorgeous. Your DH is doing a fantastic job. Good riddance to all the pink. I had a friend who once painted the entire interior of her home Pepto-Bismol pink, including the ceiling.

I like your house Kim; the street looks lovely! I'm sure all the dust, paint and hard work will be worth it.

We saw a couple homes here in Colorado Springs decorated in the color we soon labeled "old lady pink" along with an excess of floral couches, floral pillows and drapes. And you're so right about the old lady smell.

Luckily, the house we moved into a few days ago needs no remodeling; just new kitchen appliances, carpet, blinds and deck refinishing. The interior painters were still painting when we moved all our boxes and furniture in; quite a mess especially in the rain but we survived.

The exterior of your home looks very lovely. In looking at the interior, I could see the potential. The transformation is looking beautiful. Very nice work! DH and I were born and raised in Bergen County, now living near Cherry Hill. At any rate, worked near the Teterboro Airport....in your neck of the woods.

Fantastic job! I know it's hard, but in the end you will be so happy. "Wood-like" had me dying. I thought I was reading a description of our house at first, but when you neglected to mention room after room of butt ugly wall paper four to seven layers deep, I knew you were not attempting to tell our story.

I'd also like to mention to everyone on the thread, it's not pink, it's mauve. In late 80's, early 90's it was the hot color to decorate with. I'm so snooty falutie expert on it because I helped a good friend remove many, many traces of it when she bought a tiny starter home as a single woman, who HATED the color, and wound up with a steal of a deal on a tiny bungalow because literally everything in the home was mauve. When I say everything, I mean it. All sinks and tub and tiles were reglazed AND even the faucets had been sprayed with some kind of decorator flecked paint in mauve. Absolutely the only thing in the entire home that was not mauve were primary color Sesame Street floor length drapes in one tiny bedroom -- that of course still had mauve carpet, walls, ceiling, window blinds and light fixture.

By the way, if you are still unhappy with the soot marks on your firebox in the fireplace, you can try first spraying with vinegar and seeing what will clean up. If that doesn't get the job done, try mixing Borax from the laundry aisle with some water to make a paste and scrub with a brush. It worked on my mid fifties builder's model home.
