My Disney - what is it??? Help I am so confused

I have never used this new MyDisney and the smart phone apps. How do I use them? I am beyond confused. We are going to DW in Dec of this year and I have to book fast passes plus and restaurants. I am so over whelmed and don't know where to begin,

I do have a trip advisor for all this, but she said it's too soon to book things.

Your trip advisor is right - it's much too soon to book fast passes and dining reservations. Dining reservations can be booked up to 180 days in advance of your arrival date, and if you're staying on property, fast passes can be booked 60 days in advance. If you're staying off property, you have to wait until you're 30 days from your arrival date to book fast passes.

But first, you have to create your My Disney Experience account. You don't need any tickets, resort or dining reservations to do so. DO IT NOW!!!!!

Do it on a regular computer! Later, when you are more familiar with it, switch to a smart phone app.

Set up your My Disney Experience (as already said, do this on a regular computer first). Play around with it and 'practice' going into the reservations and fast pass pages, so you will know what you will be seeing when the day comes that you can really make these reservations and choices. You can also see what's going on in the parks such as wait times for rides, anything that's closed, park maps, event info, etc... The app is much more than just a 'reservation' tool and you will find it very helpful once you are actually IN the parks; but only if you're already familiar with it. Have FUN!!
