Movies worth seeing right now?

This is what I expected it to be and totally wanted to see it for this reason. Was it good on it's own, whatever it was, once you get past the disappointment?

If I were to reverse time, watch the trailer and go into it knowing it's a precursor and not a follow up?

Yes, I think it would be good. Cinematically, it was very well done.

I assume you're talking about A Quiet Place: Day One. We just watched that on HBO Max and I thought it was decent enough but felt it actually didn't go into enough of how the creatures were there.

To your comment about not watching the trailer TBH the name would have clued me in since I've seen the other two movies, that's not to say something against you just that it's a bit like The First Purge where it came movies later but you knew without seeing the trailer it was about events preceding one of the other movies. The other two movies jump right into the action, Day One implies well Day One, not sure if you caught it but a character from the second movie is featured as a character in the Day One movie. That said I can see how you'd feel watching it if you thought it would just continue on because the tone was IMO different than the other movies.

BUT as far as prequels/spin-offs go I was sorta left feeling like I needed a prequel to the prequel like what are these things, why did they come to Earth and so on because it ended up being more of a "slice of life" kind of film instead of giving more explanations, we only found out limited information in it that often come with prequels to horror or apocalyptic films. Now it has me wondering if they will do another movie that takes place between Day One and the timeline of the first film.

You make a good point, but here's why I thought "Day one" referred to something different than actual "Day One".

At the end of movie 2 they realize they can kill the aliens with a certain frequency of sound wave. I just thought that "Day One" meant a new beginning and Day one of being able to combat the creatures without being just purely overwhelmed.

Had I watched a trailer I'd have known it actually meant "Day One". Yes, I did recognize the character.

LOL but yes, that was my stupid thought and why I didn't realize that day one truly was day one :)

Well now I can totally see your logic on that one :)

How was this? My daughter mentioned it because of a book but she wasn't sure where it would land on the tearjerker scale & knows I generally refuse to pay for theater tears as I call them.

We all thought it was very good. I did not think it was a tearjerker of a movie but it all depends on how sensitive one is :) I guess. You should read the book first if you have a chance.

Seeing Beetlejuice tomorrow. We go to the movies at least every other weekend. Last weekend we saw Blink Twice. That was very heavy subject matter.

I loved the first Beetlejuice, but omg we hated the new one so badly 🙄

A Quiet Place 3

I didn't like A Quiet place but it's probably my own fault, because we didn't watch any trailer and just assumed it was following up #2. It completely was not that.

I saw A Quiet Place: Day 1. I did see the trailer so I did know it was going to be a prequel.

But, it also left me feeling flat. There wasn't enough layers. I also felt there was stuff left out of the film, like HOW some were finally able to figure out how to kill the monsters. How they co-ordinated with each other to save each other, so there would be A Quiet Place 1 & 2.

I also didn't realize we would just be following ONE person's journey, until the ending. I was like, "Seriously?" The movie promotes other stars are in it like Djimon Hounsou. He was in it for about 5 minutes. Why promote him if it's just a five minute "cameo?" And the second lead was some guy I have never seen or heard of. So, I didn't know he was the second lead. :headache:

The movie should have been titled: "A Quiet Place: Day One, Samira's Story." Then it all would have made sense. Lupita Nyong'o was great, but her story, by itself, wasn't that riveting. And I kept worrying about the cat. It actually became annoying after a while.

I kept waiting for more of a wider story arc. We can only watch one person cringing in silence until the monsters pass by so many times. I would only watch A Quiet Place 4 if it still stars Emily Blunt and is directed by her husband John Krasinski. Otherwise, I am done with this series, as I think they are. (Although John may continue writing or consulting as an exec producer on any new movies.)

I was also expecting a broader perspective on how the world was coping with the monsters, but it ended up being pretty narrow and focused on just one character. I was hoping for more depth and insight into the characters' interactions, especially when it came to working together.
