Membership Magic Beyond

Except the TIW card already set the precedent…while that was for AP holders as well, it certainly was a pay for play for a DVC entitlement.
Except that program (Disney Dining Experience), was for Florida residents only.
Availability expanded into AP and DVC later on.

I know. But the concept that was being discussed was a pay for play and that this program was a new concept that Disney hadn’t done.

So, I still say that TIW was the same ideas…pay for play that was offered to DVC…not exclusively…for no other reason than to unlock discounts.

Not comparing the value in any way, but rather this isn’t the first thing DVC owners are being given the option to purchase to unlock discounts.

I guess you can say anything is pay to play.
If you buy into the AP feature, admission is free. Buy into the dining plan, and food is free. :teeth:

I personally dont see this program as pay for play. Others do.

You pay X and get Y…it’s either worth it or not and those who find value will buy and those who don’t won’t.

I will always be a fan of programs that offer owners a choice for more value than less. And for me, this program is a move in that direction and happy to see them attempting to give us more ways to enhance our membership.

If you know Disney, you know what’s coming, no need for hypotheticals.
Then why worry about it? It's coming anyways 😅

JK, I'm just the king of person that don't worry about most things, but I understand not everybody is like that.

Honestly, that’s the best way to live. You will likely live longer than me (and be happier) with that attitude.

I have yet to see anyone on this thread that is against the extras for extra money, most everyone is for it, indifferent to it and won’t buy it but don’t care that it exists, or, like me, only cares about the lounge priority being put in there. I don’t care if they lower it to 5 dollars or raise it to 500 next year, I’ll never buy it. If DVC truly cared, and if it wasn’t a trial balloon, they would have removed the lounge access part. That’s pretty much my entire argument.

I don’t think everyone will buy it. There are quite a few members with lots of points that would not need the one time use points. These people also have annual passes already so there’s really no incentive for them to purchase it.

On saving thousands by purchasing resale, it really depends on when you buy/bought. I would certainly agree that you save thousands at this point in time but if you bought resale long ago, the price differential was not that much.

I am not in that camp that has lots of points so I will be with you purchasing this to take advantage of the OTUP.

I’m curious about adding park hopping abilities to the ticket if that will wash out any savings as we will finally be heading back to my home park at DL after 6 long years in June.
I said probably. If you have lots of points, the $99 is paltry compared to the dues. We have 385 pts and only bought otu points once when we only had 125. But, with the incentive, at 24 for the price of 12, I will definitely purchase them because I am always borrowing.

Never been to DL but I may go next year.

Yes, and I really don’t see that people are going to buy this simply for priority waitlist for the lounges.

I don’t see that being a driving factor for owners.

We were actually at Epcot the day the lounge re-opened at the end of October and I talked to the CMs at the desk. Obviously take this with a big grain of salt but when I asked them to take my feedback re: we don't like the lounge priority access being part of MMB, one of the CMs claimed that priority lounge access was the #2 request of DVC members who gave feedback on the lounges. He said adding characters was #1. I didn't ask how or when these members provided this feedback but he was adamant that DVC members are just dying for that priority access...

He also said they will never add a bathroom up there because there isn't space for it.

My problem now is which UY/membership to buy under…maybe I should do all 5 and buy 120 OTU points a year for a $700. savings 😁

Unless I am misunderstanding my reading of it, you don’t buy it under a membership….you buy it as an individual and can access those benefits for you and your household.

For example, you will be eligible for up to 24 OTU points with the BoGO free benefit…paying for 12…

So, if you buy them in membership A and take advantage of that, you won’t get the discount on your membership B purchase.

That is very interesting. I do know they do lots of surveys of members..I can never answer because my daughter is in the marketing field and it always disqualifies me!

But, if that is true, and it was based on member feedback, then maybe that is why it was added…and before anyone says it, I know people don’t believe what DVc says.

I guess we shall see how it goes! I just hope we get the specifics this week!!

I asked the Star View Station CM’s how this new tier was going to work with regard to waitlist, priority, etc.

Their answer “we really have no idea”.

What if there’s more than 1 household tied to a membership? Each household needs to purchase?

That would be my guess…but it’s something I couldn’t get a definitive answer on yet. Waiting until the actual details come out and then hopefully it will give me that answer.

I believe in the past there was a discount offered on APs for DVC blue card members (which they may have been referring to since they were using the past tense and referred to how times change) but it is correct that now we only have access to the Sorcerer's pass (a cheaper pass that is otherwise available only to Florida residents) at full price.
Exactly this. Once upon a time dvc blue could buy ap at a discount...iirc it was 20%. No additional need to buy another premium addon option. Now you pay $99 for the privilege using points to buy a full priced pass.

It's still a nice option that some can benefit and I welcome it as well as the tickets option

It's just a watered down benefit that's less than one that existed precovid.
