Meeting Mulan and Shang?

My two-year-old and I watched Mulan this afternoon, and when I told her we could meet Mulan at Disney World, she responded, "And the boy?" meaning Shang.

I know Mulan appears at Akershus (where we have a breakfast ADR) and also at the China pavilion in World Showcase. Does Shang ever appear with her?

Shang only appears on very limited special occasion (like last year's Villains party).

Mulan is not regular at Akershus, although might still fill in on occasion. She is still regular in China though.

I think Shang has been out on Valentine's Day before, but I didn't even hear anything about that this year.

I really wish they'd bring out these rare characters more.

Don't get her hopes up of seeing Shang but let her ask Mulan if she remembers. I bet Mulan will have a story to tell about why he's not there.

Mulan is often seen at Character Palooza in DHS. Kennythepirate.com has the scheduling info for Palooza on his crowd calendars.

The last time Shang was seen with Mulan was on the Disney Parks' Christmas Day program in 2012.

Not a huge draw, usually less than 30 minutes and often shorter.

The lines aren't long (<10-15 minutes usually), but do watch the times she's available. Unlike a lot of the more popular characters, her times tend to be shorter, and we managed to just barely miss her two years in a row! The hours on the app have been pretty accurate, we just didn't know to check at first.

If Shang pops out it's typically just for a day at a time, and it's hard to catch him. I got him in 2011 and 2012 but haven't seen him since.

Also, Mulan is not a regular at Akershus; she may show up if one of the main 5 are not available.

Tangent here, but.....how do you keep up with all your character photos?? Do you keep them in a paper scrapbook, or maybe a photo book each year or two? What about autographs? Just curious, since you have so many!!

I just keep my photos on-line, and do not do autographs. I did make a photo book via Shutterfly for my daughter's first year of meeting characters and will try to do that annually going forward. We'll see how long that lasts though

Keep watching for those "free book" coupons and Groupons!! . I made a photo book of most of our character pics thru the years and have been slowly trying to get it autographed. The "friends" seem to get pretty excited when they spot certain characters.... . I'm glad if I can make them smile a little.

What awesome keepsakes.

I did a photo book a few years ago with photo from our various character meets through the years, and left white space on each page for characters to sigh. We have had a ball with various characters looking back through that book, even recreating some of the poses from earlier years. The bad part is that it's time to do another book since we've added new ones since then.

So what I did, for the ones we hadn't yet met, I would get pics from friends (or pics online) either with just the character or crop out whoever else was in there (LOL) and work them into a page (like Neverland characters got a page, princesses from faraway lands--Mulan, Merida, etc--gotva page, and so on. That way, it didn't really stand out if we weren't in the pic, KWIM? Like, we didn't have Genie, but I cropped out my friends kid and put him on a page with our pics with Jasmine, so when we finally find him, he'll have a spot. If you'd like any pics of my kids to crop out for your next book, just let me know!!

I did that with Merida before our 2011 trip. I knew she was in the parks and we'd get a signature, so I borrowed a photo and put it in the book. But we've had more new ones since then, not the least of which was A/E and the 3 Caballeros. I did add some completely blank pages in the back, but I'd still like to update the book and do a new copy.

I really appreciate the offer to borrow some photos. I might just take you up on that!

Jack and Sally weren't in it either, but they had fun looking through it!
