Does anyone know if I can bring a massage gun in my carry on and have it clear TSA? what about in checked luggage? I'm asking for a friend who says she's found contradictory language/experiences online so I thought I'd ask here.

I answered on the CB, but a quick Google search seems to say "yes". Even though the internet is never wrong, one could always pack it in carry on, if picked up by TSA, arrive early enough to return it to the car (of course, if using a separate driver for ride to the airport, that changes thing).

If they have checked luggage, always better to put things there you won't actually need on the airplane. Local TSA rules can sometimes vary and if they flag that item when going through security what would you do then? If you use one of those park/fly places, it would be a huge hassle to try to take it back to your car or they may not even be enough time to do that before your flight departure time. TSA website is also someplace to look when you have questions. Random opinions from online strangers mean nothing if TSA says something isn't permitted.

It's definitely fine in checked luggage. It's supposed to be allowed in carry ons but it's going to depend on the individual screener. Most wouldn't have an issue, but there will definitely be a few around the country that are going to.
I've got a co worker that brings two massage guns with him when we fly to Orlando, at least twice a year. I"m pretty sure he puts them both in his checked bags though.

Ironically my husband had the same question about a month ago and took his massage gun to our local airport and showed it to a TSA rep. Yes, it’s okay in carryon and he took it with no problem. It has a lithium battery, and lithium battery questions are always confusing!

Here's my question with putting it in checked luggage though...

If it's in carry on, you can allow time for a trip back to the car, even if you do park/fly.
If it's in checked and gets snagged (even though it's allowed), say "bye bye" to the item.

I just flew home from MCO this morning with a massage gun in carry on. Didn’t have a problem on either leg of the flight.
